Cardinals Minor League Notebook – September 29, 2022

The St. Louis Cardinals system was 1-0 on Wednesday to close the season. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Memphis catcher Ivan Herrera, was 2-for-5 including a three-run home run. Other standouts include Chase Pinder, Roberto Baldoquin, Nolan Gorman, and Kramer Robertson.

Memphis 8 at Nashville 4

The Memphis Redbirds were victorious at the Nashville Sounds in their final game of the season on Wednesday. Starter Tommy Parsons pitched five innings, gave up three runs on six hits, struck out three and walked two to earn his 12th win of the season.

Grant Black relieved Parsons and threw two scoreless innings. T.J. McFarland tossed a scoreless eighth. Kodi Whitley surrendered one run in the ninth.

Nashville went up 1-0 in the first inning. Memphis answered with three runs in the second. Clint Coulter singled to start the inning. Roberto Baldoquin hit a ground rule double. Chase Pinder doubled to score Coulter and Baldoquin. Pinder scored on a single by Kramer Robertson.

The Redbirds added a run in the third on a solo home run by Moises Gomez, his MiLB-best 39th of the season. In the fourth, Nolan Gorman plated a run on a single to make it 5-1.

The Sounds cut the lead to 5-3 with a two-run bottom of the fourth. There the score remained until the top of the ninth when Memphis scored three on a long ball from Ivan Herrera, to give the Redbirds an 8-3 lead.

Nashville scored one run in the home half of the ninth for the final score of 8-4.

Herrera was 2-for-5 with three RBI. Baldoquin was 3-for-4. Gorman was 2-for-5 with an RBI. Robertson was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Coulter was 2-for-5. Pinder had two RBI.

With the win, Memphis salvaged one of the three games in Nashville. The Redbirds ended their season in sixth place in the International League West with a record of 73-77, 18.5 games back of Nashville.
