The St. Louis Cardinals system was 0-1 on Friday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Memphis RF Moises Gomez, hit a record-breaking home run for two of the Redbirds’ three runs. Other standouts include Nolan Gorman and Clint Coulter.

Results from games played Friday, September 23.

Memphis 3, Gwinnett 4

The Memphis Redbirds were edged by the Gwinnett Stripers (Atl), 4-3, Friday night at AutoZone Park. Starter Tommy Parsons pitched six innings, gave up four runs on five hits, fanned seven and walked three. Parsons took the loss, his fourth of the season.

Zach McAllister threw two scoreless innings of relief. Genesis Cabrera tossed a scoreless ninth.

The game was scoreless for the first four and a half innings. In the home fifth, Moises Gomez blasted a two-run home run to give Memphis the lead. It was the right-fielder’s MiLB-leading 38th of the season between Double-A and Triple-A and is the most by a Cardinals minor leaguer since at least 1960.

After Parsons had tossed five scoreless innings, Gwinnett came back in the sixth with four runs to take a 4-2 lead. In the bottom of the eighth, Clint Coulter’s solo long ball cut the Stripers lead to 4-3.

Neither team scored in the ninth.

Nolan Gorman was 2-for-4 including a double and a run scored. Gomez drove in two on the home run. Coulter had one RBI.

Memphis is 71-74 on the season and is in fifth place in the International League West, 17.5 games back of first place Nashville. Memphis has been eliminated from postseason contention.

Saturday’s game:  vs. Gwinnett, TBA vs. Darius Vines RHP (1-0, 2.93) 3:05 CT.
