On Sunday, the St. Louis Cardinals system went 1-2 as Peoria and Palm Beach were shut out. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Memphis’ Moisés Gómez, had two singles, a double, scored twice and made a game-saving catch. Other standouts include Adam Kloffenstein, Jordan Walker, Thomas Saggese and Chen-Wei Lin.

Memphis 7 at Charlotte 6 (10 innings)
The Memphis Redbirds (17-15) defeated the Charlotte Knights (13-19, CWS) 7-6 on Sunday at Truist Field to extend their winning streak to five games. Starter Adam Kloffenstein threw five innings, allowing one run on three hits while walking four and striking out three.
In the top of the first, Jordan Walker’s two-RBI double gave the Redbirds the early lead.

The Knights cut that lead in half in the bottom of the inning with a solo shot to right field.
In the sixth, Connor Thomas replaced Kloffenstein, and against his first batter, he was struck on the left elbow by an infield chopper single and left the game. Brandon Komar walked his first batter, then allowed an RBI single, a sacrifice fly, and another RBI single to give the Knights a 4-2 lead.
Memphis did not go away silently in the ninth as Moisés Gómez singled, and Nick Dunn doubled to put runners in scoring position. Gavin Collins’s RBI groundout and a wild pitch tied the game at four and sent the game to extras.

The Redbirds kept that momentum in the top of the 10th with Thomas Saggese’s RBI single to give Memphis the lead. Alfonso Rivas III walked, and a wild pitch and a passed ball scored the decisive run.

Charlotte tried to claw back, but they fell short, scoring one run on a throwing error by shortstop Arquimedes Gamboa in the bottom of the 10th. A good catch up against the left field wall by Gómez narrowly averted a walk off loss for Memphis.
Gómez went 3-for-5 with a double and scored twice. Walker was 1-for-2 with a double, two RBI, and three walks. Saggese was 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored. The Redbirds totaled seven runs on 11 hits with six walks and three strikeouts.
Komar threw three innings, allowing three runs on four hits while walking one and striking out one. Jacob Bosiokovic earned his first win this season, pitching two innings while yielding one run, none earned, on no hits while walking one and striking out three. Memphis gave up six runs, five earned, on eight hits while walking six and striking out seven.
Memphis won five of the six games in their home series with the Knights.
Tuesday’s game: vs. Norfolk (16-17, BAL), TBA vs. TBA 6:45 CT.
Springfield at Tulsa (postponed)
Due to inclement weather, Springfield’s (18-8) Sunday game at Tulsa (11-14, LAD) was postponed. It will be made up as part of a double-header later in the season.
The Cardinals took four of the five games against Tulsa in their week-long series while narrowly outscoring them 28-26.
Tuesday’s game: at Northwest Arkansas (12-13, KCR), TBA vs. Noah Cameron LHP (1-1, 3.20) 11:05 CT.
The Peoria Chiefs (8-19) offense recorded just two hits in a 6-0 loss to the Cedar Rapids Kernels (15-11, MIN) on Sunday at Rise 2 Greatness Field. Starter Brycen Mautz took his third loss this season, throwing three innings, allowing two runs on five hits while walking two and striking out two.
The Kernels struck first in the second with a solo bomb to left and extended their lead in the third with a leadoff double and an RBI single.
In the seventh, reliever Tyler Bradt walked two batters and allowed an RBI single and a sacrifice fly to double Cedar Rapids’ lead.
Joseph King took over in the eighth. He walked a batter and then allowed a two-run homer to left to give the Kernels a 6-0 lead.
Zane Mills threw two innings, allowing no runs on two hits while walking one and striking out two. Bradt pitched two innings, yielding two runs on one hit while walking three and striking out one. The Chiefs gave up six runs on nine hits while walking seven and striking out seven.
Zach Levenson went 1-for-4 with a double. Joshua Baez was 1-for-2 with a walk. Peoria totaled two hits, two walks, and eight strikeouts.
Slumping Peoria lost five of the six games in their series at Cedar Rapids.
Tuesday’s game: at Beloit (15-11, MIA), TBA vs. TBA 6:05 CT.
The Palm Beach Cardinals (15-12) were shut out 5-0 by the Daytona Tortugas (17-10, CIN) on Sunday at the Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. Starter Chen-Wei Lin took his second loss this season, throwing 5 1/3 innings, allowing three runs, one earned, on two hits while walking two and striking out five.
The Tortugas opened the scoring in the fourth with a leadoff double and two errors by third baseman Trey Paige that each allowed a run to score.
In the sixth, Lin walked his second batter, ending his day on the mound. Augusto Calderon allowed a single and a sacrifice fly to extend Daytona’s lead to 3-0.
Randel Clemente replaced Calderon in the eighth and immediately walked three batters. Gustavo Rodriguez took over with the bases loaded and gave up two sacrifice flies to make the score 5-0.
Calderon threw 1 2/3 innings, allowing no runs on two hits while walking one. Rodriguez pitched two scoreless innings while yielding one hit. Palm Beach gave up five runs, three earned, on five hits with six walks and five strikeouts.
Miguel Villarroel went 2-for-4. Maikel Hernandez was 2-for-3 with a walk. Brayden Jobert was 1-for-3 with a walk. The Cardinals totaled no runs on seven hits with two walks and five strikeouts while hitting 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position while stranding eight runners.
Daytona won the series five games to one after the Cardinals took the prior series four games to two. These two teams will meet again from June 11th-16th in Daytona.
