On Thursday, the St. Louis Cardinals system went 1-2. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Memphis’ Sem Robberse, threw six one-run innings with six strikeouts. Other standouts include Dylan Carlson, Cesar Prieto, Nick Dunn, Cade Winquest and Johnfrank Salazar.
Results for the games played on Thursday, May 2.
The Memphis Redbirds (14-15) defeated the Charlotte Knights (13-16, CWS) 5-1 on Thursday at Truist Field. Starter Sem Robberse continued his dominant season, collecting his fourth win while throwing six innings, allowing one run on six hits while walking one and striking out six.
The Redbirds opened the scoring in the second. Nick Dunn hit a two-out triple followed by Nick Raposo’s RBI double.
Memphis added three insurance runs in the third. Luken Baker’s RBI double was followed up by César Prieto’s two-run bomb to left field to extend their lead to 4-0.

The visitors added one more run in the top of the fifth. Rehabber Dylan Carlson’s solo homer extended the Redbirds lead to 5-0.

The Knights earned one run back when Robberse allowed a solo home run to right field to make the score 5-1.
Carlson went 2-for-3 with an RBI, an HBP, and scored once. Prieto was 1-for-3 with a walk, two RBI, and a run scored. Dunn was 2-for-3 with a triple, a double, a walk, and scored once. The Redbirds totaled five runs on seven hits with six being extra-base hits, while walking six times and striking out four times.
Thomas Saggese and Prieto were both caught stealing second base.
Jacob Bosiokovic threw one perfect inning, with two strikeouts. Connor Thomas pitched an inning, yielding no runs on one hit while walking none and striking out one. Ryan Loutos threw one scoreless inning, giving up one hit with no walks and two strikeouts. Memphis allowed one run on eight hits while walking one and striking out 11.
Friday’s game: at Charlotte, LHP Zack Thompson (1-0, 0.00) vs. RHP Nick Nastrini, 6:04 CT.
Springfield at Tulsa (postponed)
Due to inclement weather, Thursday’s away game between Springfield (15-8) and Tulsa (11-11, LAD) was postponed. It will be made up as part of a double-header on Friday, May, 3.
As a result, the first rehab game by St. Louis’ Matt Carpenter was delayed. The designated hitter was placed third in the batting order.
Friday’s games: at Tulsa, RHP Max Rajcic (2-2, 8.04) vs. Orlando Ortiz-Mayer RHP (1-1, 5.59) 5:00 CT (Game 1). at Tulsa, RHP Edwin Nuñez (0-1, 8.44) vs. Kendall Williams RHP (1-1, 7.04).
The Peoria Chiefs (8-16) were defeated by the Cedar Rapids Kernels (12-11, MIN) 4-1 on Thursday at Rise 2 Greatness Field. Starter Cade Winquest threw five innings, allowing one run on three hits while walking three and striking out one.
The Kernels took the lead in the third without recording a hit. Two walks and an RBI forceout scored the first run of the game.
The Chiefs responded in the fifth to tie the game at one apiece. Zach Levenson’s single to left field allowed Brody Moore to cross the plate.
Cedar Rapids regained the lead in the sixth. Benito Garcia replaced Winquest, and after recording the first out, he allowed a solo blast to right field, and two doubles to give the Kernels a 3-1 lead. Another solo homer in the seventh extended their lead to 4-1.
Levenson went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Alex Iadisernia hit 2-for-3 with a walk. Moore was 0-for-2 with two walks and a run scored. The Chiefs totaled one run on six hits with three walks and 10 strikeouts while not recording a single extra-base-hit.
Iadisernia stole his fourth and fifth bases on the basepaths this season, and Moore stole his sixth. Levenson was picked off while attempting to steal second.
Garcia took his first loss this season, throwing two innings while yielding three runs on four hits while striking out one. Dionys Rodriguez pitched one inning, allowing no runs and no hits while walking one. Peoria gave up four runs on seven hits with four walks and two strikeouts.
Friday’s game: at Cedar Rapids, LHP, Pete Hansen (0-3, 7.58) vs. Zebby Matthews RHP (3-0, 2.30) 6:35 CT.
The Palm Beach Cardinals (14-10) fell to the Daytona Tortugas (15-9, CIN) 4-2 on Thursday at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. Starter Jason Savacool took his second loss this season, allowing four runs on two hits with five walks and two strikeouts over five innings.
The Tortugas led off the game with two walks. A three-run shot to right field plated the game-winning run early. In the fourth, Daytona had a walk and a fielding error that put runners on the corners, and a double steal allowed one runner to cross home to extend their lead to 4-0.
The Cardinals scored twice in the bottom of the fourth. Johnfrank Salazar’s RBI double, followed by Lizandro Espinoza’s RBI single each plated one runner and brought the score to 4-2.
Salazar went 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI, and scored once. Chase Davis was 1-for-3 with a walk and scored once. Espinoza was 1-for-4 with an RBI. The Cardinals scored two runs on seven hits with two walks and seven strikeouts.
Adari Grant was picked off on the basepaths while trying to steal second.
In the field, Savacool made an error on a pickoff attempt and Salazar made a fielding error. Savacool also picked off two runners.
Ixan Henderson threw three innings of relief, giving up no runs on four hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Randel Clemente pitched one hitless inning, yielding no runs and one walk while striking out one. Palm Beach allowed four runs on six hits while walking eight and striking out seven.
Friday’s game: vs. Daytona, TBD vs. TBD 5:30 CT.
