The St. Louis Cardinals system went 3-2 on Saturday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Peoria LH Quinn Mathews, threw seven one-run innings on three hits with 11 strikeouts. Other standouts include Adam Kloffenstein, Luken Baker, Tink Hence, Mike Antico, Chen-Wei Lin and Miguel Villarroel.

The Memphis Redbirds (23-21) defeated the Gwinnett Stripers (21-23, ATL) 6-1 Sunday at AutoZone Park. Starter Adam Kloffenstein earned his first win this season, pitching six innings, and allowing a run on three hits while walking one and striking out three.
The Redbirds took the lead in the fourth with back-to-back bombs from José Fermín and Luken Baker.

The Stripers responded with a solo home run in the fifth to cut their deficit in half.
Baker’s two-run blast and Jared Young’s RBI single extended their lead to 5-1.

Matt Koperniak’s solo moonshot in the eighth added an extra insurance run to make the score 6-1.

Fermín hit 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, an RBI, and two runs scored. Baker was 2-for-4 with his 10th and 11th homers this season, three RBI, and two runs scored. Koperniak went 3-for-4 with a homer, a double, an RBI, and scored once. The Redbirds totaled six runs on 10 hits with two walks and nine strikeouts.
Jacob Bosiokovic threw a scoreless inning, allowing no hits and two walks. Kolton Ingram threw an inning, yielding no runs, no hits, and one walk while striking out two. Ryan Loutos closed the game, giving up no runs and no hits while walking two and striking out one. Memphis allowed a run on three hits while walking six and striking out six.
Sunday’s game: vs. Gwinnett, RHP Sem Robberse (4-2, 2.64) vs. TBA 1:05 CT.
The Springfield Cardinals walked it off against the Midland Rockhounds 3-2 on Saturday at Hammons Field. Starter Tink Hence threw six innings, allowing two runs on four hits while walking two and striking out nine.

The Rockhounds struck first in the top of the second with a sacrifice fly.

The Cardinals took the lead on Ramon Mendoza’s sacrifice fly in the third.
Hence gave up a solo homer to left-center field to lead off the top of the sixth.
Noah Mendlinger’s RBI single brought R.J. Yeager home to score and walked it off, giving Springfield the 3-2 win.

Antico went 2-for-5 with an RBI. Mendlinger hit 1-for-4 with an RBI, his 20th this season. Mendoza was 1-for-3 with an RBI. The Cardinals totaled three runs on nine hits with five walks and five strikeouts.
Leonardo Taveras threw two innings, allowing no runs on one hit while striking out three. Andre Granillo earned his fourth win, pitching an inning, yielding no runs and no hits while striking out two. Springfield gave up two runs on five hits while walking two and striking out 14.

On Saturday, the Peoria Chiefs (13-25) blew an early lead against the West Michigan Whitecaps (19-19, DET) to lose 3-2 at Dozer Park. In his Peoria debut, starter Quinn Mathews threw seven innings, allowing one run on three hits while walking one and striking out 11.

The Whitecaps earned their first run in the sixth with a sacrifice fly.
Reliever Roy Garcia came into the game in the eighth. He allowed a runner to score on a wild pitch to tie the game and allowed a solo shot to center to give up the lead.
Garcia took his first loss this season, throwing one inning, and allowing two runs on one hit while walking one and striking out three. Tyler Bradt pitched an inning, yielding no runs and no hits while striking out three. The Chiefs gave up three runs on four hits while walking two and striking out 17.
Bernal went 1-for-4 with two RBI. Michael Curialle was 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Joshua Baez was 2-for-3 with a HBP. Peoria totaled two runs on nine hits with a walk and 10 strikeouts while stranding seven men on base.
Sunday’s game: vs. West Michigan, LHP Cooper Hjerpe (0-1, 3.57) vs. Colin Fields RHP (1-2, 2.64) 2:05 CT.
The Palm Beach Cardinals (22-16) dominated the St. Lucie Mets (13-25, NYM), winning 13-1 on Saturday at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. Starter Chen-Wei Lin earned his third win this season, throwing six innings, and allowing no runs on one hit while walking two and striking out five.
The Cardinals struck first in the first with Miguel Villarroel’s RBI double and added a second run when Villarroel scored on a wild pitch later in the inning.
Palm Beach extended their lead in the fourth with Sammy Hernandez’s RBI single and Trey Paige’s RBI walk.
The home team broke open the game in the sixth with Adari Grant’s RBI single, Johnfrank Salazar’s RBI single, Brayden Jobert’s RBI forceout, Villarroel’s RBI double, Chase Davis’s two-RBI single, Hernandez’s two-RBI double, and Paige’s RBI double to cap off the nine-run inning.
Luis Gastelum replaced Lin in the seventh, and he allowed an RBI single that put the Mets on the board.
Gastelum earned his first save this season, pitching three innings, allowing a run on two hits while walking one and striking out seven. The Cardinals gave up a run on three hits while walking three and striking out 12.
Villarroel went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and two runs scored. Hernandez was 3-for-4 with a double, a walk, three RBI, and a run scored. Paige was 2-for-3 with a double, two walks, two RBI, and scored once. Palm Beach totaled 13 runs on 15 hits with six walks and nine strikeouts.

FCL Cardinals 1, FCL Marlins 4
The Florida Complex League Cardinals (6-5) fell to the FCL Marlins (9-1, MIA) 4-1 on Saturday at the Roger Dean Stadium Complex. Starter Leonel Sequera took his first loss this season, throwing four innings, and allowing two runs, one earned, on three hits while walking one and striking out four.
The Marlins took the lead in the fourth with an RBI double and added an insurance run after a fielding error by third baseman Samil De La Rosa allowed a run to score.
Reliever Samuel Fabian yielded an RBI single in the eighth. Juan Severino replaced Fabian in the top of the ninth and gave up an RBI single for a Marlins 4-0 lead.
The Cardinals earned a run in the bottom of the ninth when Yordalin Pena’s RBI groundout plated Jonathan Mejia.
Arfeni Batista went 1-for-3. Pena was 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. Mejia went 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored. The Cardinals totaled a run on three hits with three walks and 11 strikeouts.
Randel Clemente threw 1 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing three hits, a walk, and striking out three. Fabian pitched an inning, giving up a run on two hits while walking one and striking out one. Severino threw an inning, yielding a run on two hits while walking one and striking out one. The Cardinals allowed four runs, three earned, on 10 hits while walking four and striking out nine.
The FCL Cardinals are off Sunday.
