The St. Louis Cardinals system went 2-3 as The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Springfield SS Jeremy Rivas, had three hits including a home run and three RBI. Other Thursday standouts include Michael McGreevy, Thomas Saggese, Mike Antico, Hancel Rincon, Jason Savacool and Yadiel Batista.

The Memphis Redbirds (21-21) were defeated by the Gwinnett Stripers (21-21, ATL) 4-2 on Thursday at AutoZone Park. Starter Michael McGreevy threw six innings, allowing two runs on four hits while walking one and striking out four.
Gwinnett struck first in the top of the first with an RBI forceout. The Redbirds responded in the bottom of the first with Thomas Saggese’s RBI double.

McGreevy gave up a solo shot to right-center in the third to conclude a seven-pitch at-bat. Memphis tied it in the fifth with Saggese’s sacrifice fly to plate José Fermín.
Nick Raquet took over the mound in the seventh and allowed a sacrifice fly in the eighth to give the Stripers the lead. The Stripers added an insurance run in the ninth with another sacrifice fly.
Raquet took his first loss this season, yielding two runs on five hits while striking out three. Memphis allowed four runs on nine hits while walking one and striking out seven.
Saggese was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Jared Young was 2-for-4 with a double. Fermín went 0-for-2 with a walk, an HBP, and two runs scored. The Redbirds totaled two runs on nine hits with two walks, six strikeouts, and 10 players left on base while going 2-for-11 with runners in scoring position.
Friday’s game: vs Gwinnett, RHP Andre Pallante (1-0, 1.50) vs. Allan Winans RHP (3-2, 3.27) 7:05 CT.
On Thursday, the Springfield Cardinals (20-15) fell to the Midland Rockhounds (24-12, OAK) 8-7 at Hammons Field. Starter Max Rajcic took his third loss this season, throwing 2 2/3 innings, allowing six runs on five hits while walking three and striking out two.
On the third pitch of the game, Rajcic allowed a solo shot to left-center field. Rajcic gave up another solo longball on the third pitch in the top of the second inning.
The Cardinals responded in the bottom half of the inning with Mike Antico’s RBI single and Jeremy Rivas’s two-RBI single to take the lead.
Midland took back the lead in the top of the third with an RBI double that tied it, a balk from Rajcic that scored a runner, another RBI double, and a walk that brought home another runner.
R.J. Yeager’s RBI double in the bottom of the third brought the game back to within striking distance.

Wilfredo Pereira replaced Rajcic after the bases-loaded walk in the third. He allowed a two-RBI single to extend Midland’s lead to 8-4 in the top of the fifth.
Matt Lloyd grounded into an RBI forceout in the bottom of the fifth. Antico’s solo homer to left field brought the game to within two and gave him his sixth RBI of the series.

Yeager was 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored. Antico was 2-for-4 with a homer, two RBI, and scored twice. Rivas went 3-for-4 with a home run, three RBI, and a run scored. The Cardinals totaled seven runs on 13 hits with a walk and seven strikeouts.
St. Louis rehabber Keynan Middleton threw an inning, allowing no runs and no hits. Jack Ralston covered two innings, yielding no runs and no hits while striking out three. Andre Granillo pitched one inning without allowing a hit. Springfield gave up eight runs on eight hits while walking four and striking out seven.

The Peoria Chiefs (13-23) blew a late lead to lose to the West Michigan Whitecaps (17-19, DET) 5-3 on Thursday at Dozer Park. Starter Hancel Rincon pitched six innings, allowing one run on three hits while walking one and striking out three.
The Chiefs struck first in the third with Alex Iadisernia’s RBI double.

The Whitecaps tied it in the top of the fourth with an RBI groundout, but Peoria took back the lead with Brody Moore’s RBI single. Moore added insurance in the seventh with his solo moonshot to left field.

Zane Millis replaced Rincon in the seventh, and in the eighth, he walked in two runs to tie the game at three apiece.
Nathanael Heredia took over for Mills after the two walks, and in the ninth, he gave up a two-RBI single to put the Chiefs down 5-3. The Peoria offense was unable to answer in the home ninth.
Millis threw 1 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on two hits while walking three and striking out two. Heredia took his second loss this season, pitching 1 2/3 innings, yielding two runs, one earned, on two hits while walking one and striking out five. The Chiefs gave up five runs, four earned, on seven hits while walking five and striking out 10.
Moore went 2-for-4 with a homer, two RBI, and a run scored. Iadisernia doubled in four at-bats with an RBI. Leonardo Bernal was 2-for-4 with a triple and scored once. Peoria totaled three runs on seven hits with no walks and 10 strikeouts.
Friday’s game: vs. West Michigan, LHP Brycen Mautz (0-3, 7.03) vs. Jaden Hamm RHP (0-0, 0.94) 7:05 CT.
On Thursday, the Palm Beach Cardinals (21-15) dominated the St. Lucie Mets (12-24, NYM) 8-2 at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. Starter Jason Savacool threw five innings, allowing one run on two hits while walking three and striking out six.
The Cardinals took an early lead in the first on Chase Adkison’s RBI groundout but the Mets tied it in the third with a solo shot to left field.
Ixan Henderson relieved Savacool and allowed an RBI single in the top of the seventh to give St. Lucie a 2-1 lead.
A balk in the bottom half of the inning allowed Luis Pino to score. Miguel Villarroel’s two-RBI double took the lead. Jose Cordoba’s RBI single, a throwing error on a pickoff that scored Adkison, and Ross Friedrick’s two-run bomb to right ended the seven-run inning.

Villarroel went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI, and a run scored. Adkison was 1-for-3 with a walk, an RBI, and scored once. Friedrick one hit in four at-bats was a homer which drove in two. The Cardinals totaled eight runs on eight hits with six walks and 10 strikeouts.
Henderson earned his third win this season, throwing two innings, yielding a run on two hits while walking three and striking out four. Henry Gomez pitched two innings, giving up no runs on two hits while striking out two. Palm Beach allowed two runs on six hits while walking six and striking out 12.
Friday’s game: vs. St. Lucie, RH José Dávila (2-2, 3.38) vs. Jack Wenninger RHP (1-1, 5.34) 5:30 CT.
The Florida Complex League Cardinals (6-3) shut out the FCL Mets (5-4, NYM) 4-0 on Thursday at St. Lucie Sports Complex. Starter Yadiel Batista threw four innings allowing no runs on four hits while walking one and striking out four.
The Cardinals struck first in the second when Arfeni Batista stole third and scored on a throwing error from the catcher. They added pressure with Yancel Guerrero’s RBI single and Anyelo Encarnacion’s two-run home run.
Encarnacion was 1-for-5 with a homer, two RBI, and a run scored. Guerrero went 1-for-3 with a walk, an RBI, and scored once. Jonathan Mejia was 2-for-3 with a walk. The Cardinals totaled four runs on four hits with six walks and 15 strikeouts. All nine of the Cardinals starting hitters struck out once or twice.
Yordy Herrera earned his fourth win this season, pitching two innings, giving up no runs on one hit while walking one and striking out three. Antoni Cuello threw two scoreless innings, yielding no runs and no hits while striking out one. The Cardinals allowed no runs on six hits while walking three and striking out eight.
