The St. Louis Cardinals system was 0-4 on Wednesday. The FSL and the DSL were off. The Player of the Day is Peoria 2B Francisco Hernandez, who 3-for-4 with an RBI in Peoria’s loss to Quad Cities.

The Redbirds were walloped by the Jumbo Shrimp in a 10-4 contest at AutoZone Park on Wednesday night. Aaron Brooks was on the bump for Memphis. The right-hander pitched seven innings, gave up five runs on eight hits and struck out five.
Jordan Hicks continued his rehab and relieved Brooks. He surrendered five runs in the eighth. Blake Parker tossed a scoreless ninth. Brooks took the loss, his fourth of the season.
Jacksonville posted four runs in the second inning to go up 4-0. Memphis cut the lead to 4-1 in the third. Moises Gomez walked and scored on a single by Alec Burleson with a fielding error.
The Redbirds made it 4-3 in the fourth. Clint Coulter singled, and Cory Spangenberg followed with a single. Austin Romine singled. Coulter scored on a wild pitch. Evan Mendoza reached on an error and Spangenberg scored.
In the seventh, the Jumbo Shrimp tied it and the blew the game open in the eighth with a five run inning. Memphis rallied for one more run in the ninth on an RBI single by Gomez.
Burleson went 2-for-4. Romine was 2-for-4. Gomez and Mendoza each had an RBI.
On the base paths, Ben DeLuzio stole his 21st base of the season. Mendoza was caught stealing.
Memphis is 42-32 on the season and is tied for second place with Columbus in the International League West, two games back of first place Nashville.
Thursday’s game: vs. Jacksonville, Matthew Liberatore LHP (4-3, 4.03) vs. TBD 7:05 CT.
The Cardinals were pounded by the Wind Surge in a nine run loss at Hammons Field on Wednesday night. Starter Edgar Escobar pitched 3 2/3 innings, gave up seven runs on seven hits, struck out four and walked four. Escobar took the loss, his fourth of the season.
Michael Brettell relieved Escobar and surrendered two runs in 2 1/3 innings of relief. Michael YaSenka allowed one run in his final three innings.
Wichita scored one run in the first to take a 1-0 lead. They added to their lead with three runs in the third, three in the fourth, and two more in the sixth. The Cardinals scored their only run in the home half of the sixth. Jordan Walker led off with a double, then stole third base. Malcom Nunez plated Walker on a single.

The Wind Surge scored their final run in the ninth.
Walker went 2-for-2 and was the only Cardinal with multiple hits. Nunez had one RBI.
On the base paths, Walker stole his 15th base of the season. In the field, Julio Rodriguez had a passed ball.
Springfield is 1-1 in the second half and sits in third place in the Texas League North along with NW Arkansas and Wichita, one game back of Arkansas.
Thursday’s game: vs. Wichita, Michael McGreevy RHP (3-2, 3.98) vs. Louie Varland RHP (6-2, 3.42) 7:05 CT.
The Chiefs fell to the River Bandits in a two run loss on Wednesday night. Wilfredo Pereira took the mound for Peoria. The right-hander pitched 6 1/3 innings, gave up four runs on four hits, fanned six and walked one. Pereira took the loss, his fourth of the season.
Nathanael Heredia relieved Pereira and tossed the final 1 2/3 scoreless innings.
Quad Cities took a 2-0 lead in the fifth inning. The Chiefs tied it up in the sixth. Tyler Reichenborn drew a walk, then stole second base. Osvaldo Tovalin was hit by a pitch. Francisco Hernandez doubled to plate Reichenborn. Tovalin scored on a sac bunt by Ramon Mendoza.
The River Bandits put up two runs in the seventh to lead 4-2. The Chiefs were unable to rally.
Hernandez went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Mike Antico and Tommy Jew were both 2-for-4.
On the base paths, Antico stole three bases for a total of 37 on the season. Reichenborn stole his 12th base. Jew swiped his 17th base. Mack Chambers stole his fifth. Luis Rodriguez was picked off first base.
In the field, Wade Stauss had a passed ball.
Peoria is 0-5 in the second half and is in last place in the Midwest League West, five games back of first place South Bend.
Thursday’s game: at Quad Cities, TBD (PEO) vs. Charlie Neuweiler RHP (4-5, 5.11) 6:30 CT.
The Cardinals were blanked by the Tortugas in a 4-0 contest at Roger Dean Stadium on Wednesday night. Tink Hence got the start for Palm Beach. The right-hander pitched three scoreless innings with one hit allowed and eight punchouts.
Jack Ralston relieved Hence and surrendered two runs in the fourth. Ralston took the loss. Alfredo Ruiz threw a scoreless fifth. Chris Holba hurled a scoreless sixth. Griffin Roberts allowed two runs in the seventh. Nelfri Contreras and Andrew Marrero each tossed a scoreless inning.
Daytona scored two runs in the fourth and two runs in the seventh. The Beach Birds were held to three hits, a double by Matt Chamberlain and singles Aaron McKeithen and Brady Whalen. The offense was 0-for-2 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.
In the field, McKeithan had a passed ball.
Palm Beach is 4-1 in the second half and is in first place in the FSL East.
