The St. Louis Cardinals system went 3-1 on Sunday, including two wins in extras. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Palm Beach C Sammy Hernandez, drove in four including the tying and winning runs. Other standouts include Adam Kloffenstein, Nick Dunn, Bryan Torres, Quinn Mathews, Chris Rotondo, Roy Garcia, Jason Savacool and Travis Honeyman.

The Memphis Redbirds (36-33) beat the Norfolk Tides (35-34, BAL) 6-1 on Sunday at Harbor Park. Starter Adam Kloffenstein earned his fourth win this season, throwing six innings, and allowing one run on seven hits while walking one and striking out seven.
The Redbirds struck first with Nick Dunn’s sacrifice fly in the third inning.
Thomas Saggese’s RBI single, Alfonso Rivas III’s RBI double, Dunn’s RBI single, and Victor Scott II’s RBI single gave the Redbirds a 5-0 lead in the fourth.

The Tides earned one run back with a solo shot to lead off the sixth inning.
Memphis earned an insurance run in the ninth with Dunn’s RBI triple.

Dunn went 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBI. Rivas III was 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, an RBI, and three runs scored. Saggese hit 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. The Redbirds totaled six runs on nine hits with a walk and eight strikeouts.
Andre Granillo threw two scoreless innings, allowing a hit and two walks while striking out three. Jacob Bosiokovic pitched one scoreless inning, yielding a hit and a walk while striking out three. Memphis gave up one run on nine hits while walking four and striking out 13.
The Memphis Redbirds split their week-long series against the Norfolk Tides. The Redbirds will begin a homestand against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (31-38, MIA) on Tuesday.

The Springfield Cardinals (33-30) were obliterated by the NW Arkansas Naturals (31-32, KCR) 14-7 on Sunday at Hammons Field. In his rehab assignment, Steven Matz threw three scoreless innings while allowing no hits and striking out five.

A wild pitch in the second allowed Bryan Torres to come home and give the Cardinals a 2-0 lead.
Benito Garcia took over the mound in the fourth and allowed a two-RBI single, an RBI double, and an RBI single before being replaced by Alex Cornwell.

Cornwell allowed runners to score on a wild pitch and an RBI forceout in the sixth. Ryan Shreve took over on the mound with two away and yielded an RBI single. Shreve allowed an RBI double and an RBI single in the seventh.
The Cardinals attempted to close the gap in the eighth with Jeremy Rivas’s two-RBI single and a wild pitch that allowed Chandler Redmond to score. Springfield was down 9-7.
Matt Svanson took the mound in the ninth and allowed two solo homers, an RBI single, and a two-RBI single to make the score 14-7.
Leonardo Taveras threw one scoreless inning, allowing one hit and a walk while striking out one. Alex Cornwell took his first Double-A loss this season, pitching 2 1/3 innings, and yielding three runs on six hits while walking one and striking out four. Springfield allowed 14 runs, 11 earned, on 20 hits while walking four and striking out 14.
Rivas went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Torres was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Crooks was 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI. The Cardinals totaled seven runs on 12 hits with a walk and seven strikeouts.
The Springfield Cardinals were swept in their homestand against the NW Arkansas Naturals and have lost seven in a row, seriously damaging their first half title hopes. Now 1 ½ games out of first, the Cards begin the final series of the half at the Corpus Christi Hooks (24-39, HOU) on Tuesday.

Peoria 6, South Bend 5 (11 innings)
The Peoria Chiefs (25-38) won a close contest over the South Bend Cubs (27-36, CHI) in 11 innings 6-5 on Sunday at Dozer Park. Starter Quinn Mathews threw 6 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on six hits while striking out 11.
The Cubs struck first in the first with an RBI single and an RBI forceout.
The Chiefs earned one back when a wild pitch allowed Alex Iadisernia to score.
Zach Levenson’s sacrifice fly tied the game at two apiece in the fifth.

South Bend regained the lead with a solo homer in the top of the seventh.
Peoria took the lead in the bottom half of the inning with Chris Rotondo’s three-run blast to center field.

Gustavo Rodriguez took over the mound for the final out in the seventh and in the eighth, he allowed an RBI triple and a run to score on a wild pitch to tie the game at five apiece.
In the 11th, a balk walked it off for the Chiefs.

Rotondo was 1-for-5 with a homer, three RBI, and a run scored. Iadisernia was 2-for-2 with a double and a run scored. Levenson went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Peoria totaled six runs on six hits with six walks and 12 strikeouts.
Rodriguez threw 1 1/3 innings, giving up two runs on two hits while walking and striking out one. Roy Garcia earned his second win this season, pitching three scoreless innings, and yielding one hit while striking out five. Peoria allowed five runs on nine hits while walking one and striking out 17.
The Peoria Chiefs won five of the six games in their homestand against the South Bend Cubs. The Chiefs will begin a road trip at the Cedar Rapids Kernels (36-26, MIN) on Tuesday.

Palm Beach 6 at Daytona 4 (10 innings)
The Palm Beach Cardinals (35-28) defeated the Daytona Tortugas (30-33, CIN) 6-4 in extra innings on Sunday at Jackie Robinson Ballpark. Starter Jason Savacool threw five innings, allowing one run, none earned, on three hits while walking two and striking out seven.
The Tortugas struck first with a little league home run in the first when center fielder Lizandro Espinoza committed a fielding error.
The Cardinals tied it with Chase Davis’s RBI single in the fourth and took the lead when a wild pitch allowed Davis to come home in the top of the seventh.
Daytona regained the lead in the bottom half of the inning when two runs came home on a forceout after first baseman Johnfrank Salazar committed a fielding error.
Sammy Hernandez’s RBI forceout in the eighth tied the game and sent it into extras.
Hernandez’s three-RBI double in the top of the 10th gave the Cardinals a 6-3 lead.
In the bottom of the 10th, the only offense the Tortugas could generate was an RBI single which was not enough to defeat Palm Beach.
Hunter Kublick threw two innings, yielding two runs, one earned, on one hit while walking three and striking out one. Luis Gastelum earned his fourth win this season, throwing two hitless innings while striking out four. Zack Showalter threw a scoreless inning to earn his sixth save this season, giving up one run, none earned, on one hit while striking out two. Palm Beach allowed four runs, one earned on five hits while walking five and striking out 14.
Hernandez doubled, walked, and had four RBI. Davis went 1-for-2 with three walks, an RBI, and two runs scored. Travis Honeyman was 3-for-5 with three doubles and three runs scored. The Cardinals totaled six runs on seven hits with five walks and nine strikeouts.
The Palm Beach Cardinals split their series with the Daytona Tortugas and remain one game behind Jupiter in the Florida State League East. On Tuesday, the Cardinals will continue their road trip against the Tampa Tarpons (23-40, NYY).
