The St. Louis Cardinals system went 1-4 on Saturday with three losses by one run. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Palm Beach OF Chase Davis, homered, walked three times, drove in two and scored twice. Other standouts include Jordan Walker, Matt Lloyd, Tyler Bradt, Chen-Wei Lin, Paulo Asprilla and Juan Pablo Cabrera.

The Memphis Redbirds (35-33) were defeated by the Norfolk Tides (35-33, BAL) 6-2 on Saturday at Harbor Park. Starter Michael McGreevy took his seventh loss this season after throwing four innings and allowing three runs on five hits while walking two and striking out seven.
The Tides took the quick lead in the first with a two-run bomb.
The Redbirds tied it in the top of the third with Matt Koperniak’s RBI forceout and Jordan Walker’s RBI single.
Norfolk regained the lead in the bottom of the third with an RBI single.
An RBI double and a throwing error by third baseman Jared Young that allowed a runner to score against Packy Naughton made the score 5-2 in the fifth. The home team added one final insurance run with a solo homer in the bottom of the seventh against Connor Thomas.
Naughton threw one inning, allowing two runs, one earned, on two hits while striking out two. Nick Raquet threw a scoreless inning, yielding a hit while striking out two. Thomas pitched two innings, giving up one run on three hits while walking one. Memphis allowed six runs, five earned, on 11 hits while walking three and striking out 11.
Walker was 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI, and a walk. Nick Dunn went 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored. César Prieto doubled. The Redbirds totaled two runs on six hits with three walks and seven strikeouts while hitting 1-for-12 with runners in scoring position and stranding eight men on base.
Sunday’s game: at Norfolk, RHP Adam Kloffenstein (3-4, 4.18) vs. Dean Kremer RHP 12:05 CT.
The Springfield Cardinals (33-29) were defeated by the NW Arkansas Naturals (30-32, KCR) on Saturday at Hammons Field. The Cards are 1 1/2 games behind Arkansas in the first half race with four games remaining.
Starter Ian Bedell threw five plus innings, allowing four runs, two earned, on four hits while striking out seven.
The Cardinals struck first with a Jeremy Rivas RBI single in the second.
The Naturals responded in the top of the third with a two-run longball to right field.
Jacob Buchberger’s RBI single in the bottom of the third tied the game at two apiece. Matt Lloyd’s two-run moonshot in the fifth made the score 4-2.

The game got away from the Cardinals in the sixth. Leonardo Taveras took over the mound after Bedell allowed the first two batters to reach. Taveras allowed an RBI single and a bases-loaded walk before being replaced by Jack Ralston who yielded a two-RBI single.
Springfield earned one run back with Chandler Redmond’s sacrifice fly, but they could not catch NW Arkansas.
Lloyd hit 3-for-5 with a homer, two RBI, and a run scored. Buchberger was 2-for-3 with a walk, an RBI, and two runs scored. The Cardinals totaled five runs on nine hits with five walks and nine strikeouts.
Taveras took his second loss this season, throwing 2/3 of an inning, and allowing two runs on a hit while walking two and striking out two. Ralston threw a scoreless 1 1/3 innings, yielding one hit and one walk while striking out two. Andrew Marrero pitched two scoreless innings, giving up one hit while striking out two. Springfield allowed six runs, four earned, on seven hits while walking three and striking out 13.
Sunday’s game: vs. NW Arkansas, RHP Tink Hence (4-2, 3.19) vs. Ryan Brady RHP (2-2, 2.89) 1:05 CT.
The Peoria Chiefs (24-38) fell to the South Bend Cubs (27-35, CHI) 4-3 on Saturday at Dozer Park. Starter Brycen Mautz allowed three runs on seven hits in 4 2/3 innings while walking one and striking out four.
The Chiefs struck first with Brody Moore’s RBI single in the first.

The Cubs responded in the fifth with a solo homer and two RBI singles.
Joshua Baez came back with a solo bomb of his own in the bottom of the fifth.

A passed ball in the seventh allowed William Sullivan to come home and tie the game at three apiece.

Relief pitcher Tanner Jacobson took over in the eighth and allowed a solo home run to the first batter he faced for the final margin.
Tyler Bradt threw 2 1/3 innings, yielding no runs on one hit while striking out two. Jacobson took his fourth loss this season, pitching two innings, and giving up a run on two hits while striking out two. Peoria allowed four runs on 10 hits while walking one and striking out eight.
Baez hit a home run and walked. Moore had a single, a walk and an RBI. Won-Bin Cho tripled and scored. The Chiefs totaled three runs on seven hits with four walks and 11 strikeouts while hitting 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position and stranding nine men on base.
Sunday’s game: vs. South Bend, LHP Quinn Mathews (1-1, 3.24) vs. Tyler Schlaffer RHP (0-1, 6.17) 2:05 CT.
On Saturday, the Palm Beach Cardinals (34-28) prevailed over the Daytona Tortugas (30-32, CIN) 7-2 at Jackie Robinson Ballpark. The Beach Birds remain a 1/2 game behind Jupiter in the first half division race with four games remaining.
Starter Chen-Wei Lin earned his fourth win this season, throwing six innings, and allowing two runs on five hits while walking three and striking out five.
The Cardinals took an early lead in the top of the first with Miguel Villarroel’s RBI single and Johnfrank Salazar’s two-RBI double.
A Tortugas sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first made the score 3-1.
Chase Davis’s two-run blast to right-center extended the Cardinals lead to 5-1.
Daytona’s RBI double in the fourth plated their second and final run.
Palm Beach added two insurance runs in the ninth with Travis Honeyman’s RBI double and a wild pitch that allowed Honeyman to come home later in the inning.
Salazar hit 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI, and a walk. Villarroel went 3-for-4 with a double, a walk, an RBI, and two runs scored. Davis also reached base four times with a homer, three walks, two RBI, and two runs scored. The Cardinals totaled seven runs on 10 hits with five walks and eight strikeouts.
Henry Gomez earned his first save this season, pitching three scoreless innings, and yielding two hits and a walk while striking out two. Palm Beach allowed two runs on seven hits while walking four and striking out seven.

FCL Cardinals: Off Saturday
The last place Florida Complex League Cardinals (12-17) were off Saturday. They will play the FCL Mets (12-16, NYM) at home on Monday after a two-day break.
Monday’s game: vs. FCL Mets, TBD vs. TBD 11:00 CT.
DSL Cardinals 9 at DSL Blue Jays 10 (10 innings)
The Dominican Cardinals (3-6) lost a back-and-forth contest to the DSL Blue Jays (4-4, TOR) by a score of 10-9 on Saturday at the Toronto Blue Jays DR Complex. Starter Oliver Gonzalez threw 2 2/3 innings, allowing four runs, three earned, on four hits while walking two.
The Cardinals struck first in the top of the second with Paulo Asprilla’s RBI single.
The Blue Jays responded in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI triple to tie the game and they took the lead when third basemen Daniel Rojas committed a fielding error.
Yaxson Lucena’s RBI single in the top of the third tied the game at two apiece.
An RBI double and an RBI single gave the Blue Jays a two-run lead in the home third.
The Blue Jays continued to extend their lead in the fourth when the pitcher Gabriel Chinchilla committed a throwing error after catching a line drive. Another RBI single in the fifth gave the Blue Jays a 6-2 lead.
Asprilla’s RBI single, Juan Pablo Cabrera’s two-RBI triple, and a wild pitch that brought Cabrera home tied the game at six apiece in the sixth.
Relief pitcher Jarol Baez allowed a solo shot to give the Blue Jays a one-run lead heading into the eighth.
Daniel Rojas’s RBI single in the top of the eighth tied the game again.
A wild pitch from reliever Jose Suriel in the bottom of the eighth allowed another runner to cross home.
Bryan Amoroso’s RBI single tied the game at eight apiece in the top of the ninth, sending the game to extras.
Cristofer Lebron’s RBI forceout gave the Cardinals their first lead since the second inning in the top of the 10th.
Kener Perez allowed an RBI sacrifice bunt and an RBI single to allow the Blue Jays to walk it off in the bottom of the tenth.
Perez took his second loss this season, throwing 1 2/3 innings, and yielding two runs, none earned, on one hit. Suriel gave up one run on no hits while walking four and striking out two in the one inning he pitched. Baez allowed one run on one hit while walking one and striking out two in one inning. The Cardinals allowed 10 runs, six earned, on 10 hits while walking seven and striking out five with five wild pitches on the day.
Asprilla was 2-for-4 with a walk, two RBI, and two runs scored. Cabrera went 2-for-5 with a triple, two RBI, and a run scored. Lucena was 2-for-6 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored. The Cardinals totaled nine runs on 12 hits with four walks and nine strikeouts.
Yairo Padilla, Rojas, and Andru Arthur each swiped one bag.
The DSL Cardinals are off Sundays.
