The St. Louis Cardinals system was 2-5 on Futures Game Saturday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day Nick Dunn was 6-for-7 with four RBI in Springfield’s twin-bill defeats. Other standouts: Nick Raposo, Ian Bedell, Leonardo Bernal and Andru Arthur.

MLB Futures Game: National League 5 at American League 0 (seven innings)
The 24th edition of the MLB All-Star Futures Game was held Saturday evening in Seattle. The seven-inning exhibition pitted 25 American League prospects against 25 National Leaguers, including Cardinals representatives Springfield pitcher Tink Hence and his teammate, outfielder Victor Scott.

Scott, who is second in Minor League Baseball with 52 steals in 59 attempts, showcased his wheels. After his pinch-hit single in the fifth, he made it look easy, stealing second and third base on consecutive pitches. The 22-year-old was stranded there and struck out in his other plate appearance.
Hence, 20, pitched the second inning for the NL. He allowed a two-out single and a walk before securing a ground out for a scoreless frame. The Cardinals’ top pitching prospect fanned one. 13 of his 24 pitches were strikes.
The Memphis Redbirds edged the Indians in an 8-7 road win on Saturday. Starter Tommy Parsons pitched six innings, gave up six runs on six hits, struck out one and walked three.
James Naile threw two scoreless innings of relief to earn his fifth win of the season. Jake Walsh surrendered one run in the ninth and received his fourth save.
Indianapolis put up five runs in the second inning to take a 5-0 lead. Memphis answered with three runs in the third. Masyn Winn led off with a double. Richie Palacios singled to score Winn. Tyler O’Neill walked. Juan Yepez was hit by a pitch. Chase Pinder ground into a force out and Palacios was thrown out at home. Juniel Querecuto plated O’Neill and Yepez on a single.

The Redbirds shrunk the lead further in the fifth on a solo home run by Taylor Motter. Memphis tied the game in the top of the sixth when Querecuto doubled and scored on a single by Nick Raposo.
The Indians regained the lead at 6-5 in the home half of the sixth.
In the top of the ninth, Memphis scored three runs to go up 8-6. Yepez doubled. Pinder walked. Kramer Robertson singled to score Yepez. Raposo plated Pinder and Robertson on a single.
Indianapolis rallied for one run in the bottom of the ninth but fell short.
Raposo was 2-for-5 with three RBI. Querecuto was 3-for-5 with two driven in. Palacios was 3-for-6 with an RBI. Robertson was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Winn was 3-for-6.
Memphis is 3-8 in the second half, 42-44 on the season, and is in last place in the International League West, five games back of St. Paul.

Springfield 3, Amarillo 4 (seven innings, Game 1)
The Springfield Cardinals were edged by the Sod Poodles in the first game of a twin bill at Hammons Field on Saturday. Starter Wilfredo Pereira pitched five innings, gave up four runs on four hits, struck out five and walked three. Pereira took the loss, his fifth of the season.
Ryan Shreve tossed the final two scoreless innings of relief.
Springfield scored in the first inning on a solo home run by Mike Antico. Amarillo answered with three runs in the second to take the lead.
The Sod Poodles made it 4-1 in the fourth. The Cardinals cut the lead to 4-2 in the fifth. Wade Stauss doubled and scored on a double by Nick Dunn.
Springfield scored their third and final run in the seventh. Dunn singled and later scored on a single by Chandler Redmond.
Dunn, the reigning system-wide Player of the Month, was 3-for-4 with an RBI. Redmond was 2-for-4 with one driven in.
Springfield 6, Amarillo 7 (seven innings, Game 2)
The Cardinals dropped the second game of the home twin bill with the Sod Poodles, again by one run. In his Double-A debut, starter Alex Cornwell pitched 3 2/3 innings, gave up six runs, three earned, on nine hits and struck out five.
Logan Sawyer threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings of relief. Bryan Pope surrendered one run in the final two innings and took the loss, his second.
Amarillo scored six runs in the top of the second to take the lead. Springfield answered in the home half of the second to cut the lead to 6-4. Arquimedes Gamboa walked and Jose Alvarez singled. Aaron Antonini followed with a three-run home run. Mike Antico was hit by a pitch and later scored on a single by Nick Dunn.
The Cardinals tied the game at 6-6 in the fourth on a two-run home run by Dunn. The Sod Poodles scored one to take the lead in the top of the seventh. Springfield did not score in the bottom of the inning.

Dunn was 3-for-3 with three RBI. Antonini had three RBI.
On the base paths, Mike Antico stole his 26th base of the season. Noah Mendlinger was caught stealing.
In the field, Gamboa and Errol Robinson each made a throwing error.
Springfield is 5-6 in the second half, 39-41 for the season, and is in third place in the Texas League North, two games back of Arkansas.

The Peoria Chiefs defeated the Cubs by four runs on the road on Saturday. Starter Ian Bedell pitched five innings, gave up one run on three hits, struck out two and walked one to earn his fourth win of the season.
Gustavo Rodriguez threw 2 2/3 scoreless innings of relief. Nathanael Heredia tossed the final 1 1/3 scoreless frames.
The Chiefs took the lead in the second inning on a two-run long ball by Osvaldo Tovalin. The Cubs scored one run in the fourth to cut the lead in half.

Peoria widened the tally to 3-1 in the fifth when Alex ladisernia singled and scored on a double by Nathan Church.
In the sixth, Aaron McKeithan walked and later crossed the plate on a wild pitch to increase the lead to 4-1. A fifth and final run came in the eighth as McKeithan doubled and later scored again on a wild pitch.
Iadisernia was 2-for-4 on the night. Tovalin had two RBI. McKeithan scored three runs.
On the base paths, the Chiefs ran wild. Darlin Moquete stole his second base. ladisernia stole two bases. Church stole his 14th base. R.J. Yeager stole his second base.
Yeager made a fielding error.
Peoria is 9-5 in the second half, 42-38 on the season, and is in second place in the Midwest League West, 0.5 game back of Cedar Rapids.

The Palm Beach Cardinals were topped by the Threshers in a one-run road loss on Saturday. Starter Hancel Rincon pitched 5 2/3 innings, gave up two runs on five hits and struck out six.
Tanner Jacobson threw 2 1/3 scoreless innings of relief. Henry Gomez surrendered three runs, two earned, in the ninth and took both the loss and blown save.
The Beach Birds took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Jose Cordoba and Leonardo Bernal singled. Both runners advanced on a balk. Michael Curialle plated Cordoba and Bernal on a single.
Clearwater cut the lead to 2-1 in the home half of the first. Palm Beach widened the lead to 3-1 in the second. Won-Bin Cho singled and later scored on a single by Bernal.
The Threshers scored a run in the sixth to shrink the lead to 3-2.
The Cardinals added a run in the top of the ninth on a solo home run by Joshua Baez to lead 4-2. However, the lead disappeared in the bottom of the ninth, as the Palm Beach bullpen coughed up three runs and Clearwater won in a walk off.
Curialle was 2-for-3 with two RBI. Bernal was 4-for-5 with an RBI. Cho was 2-for-3.
On the base paths, Curialle stole his fifth base of the season. Cho was caught stealing. In the field, Adanson Cruz made two errors, one fielding and one throwing. Baez and Lizandro Espinoza both had fielding miscues.
Palm Beach is 3-11 in the second half, 40-39 on the season, and is in last place in the FSL East, 4.5 games back of Daytona.
Sunday’s game: at Clearwater, Benjamin Arias RHP (0-1, 3.18) vs. TBA 11:00 am CT.
The Florida Complex League Cardinals lost to the Astros in an 8-1 decision on Saturday. Starter Darlin Saladin pitched three innings, gave up two runs on two hits and struck out two. Saladin took the loss.
Alexander Beltre relieved Saladin and threw a scoreless fourth. Ettore Guilianelli surrendered three runs in the fifth. Omar Yanez hurled two scoreless innings. Samuel Fabian relinquished three runs, two earned, in 2/3 innings. Alejandro Cervantes tossed the final 1 1/3 scoreless innings.
The Astros took a 2-0 lead in the third inning and increased their lead to 5-0 in the fifth.
The Cardinals scored their only run in the sixth. Justin Guerrero doubled and advanced to third on a passed ball. Guerrero later was forced in on a walk by Raul Guzman.
The Astros added three more runs in the eighth for the final margin of 8-1.
The Cardinals scored one run on just three hits. No Cardinal had multiple hits. The offense was 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position.
On the base paths, Guerrero and Jose Suarez were both caught stealing. In the field, Anyelo Encarnacion had a fielding miscue. Guilianelli and Fabian each had a throwing error.
The Cardinals are 9-15 on the season and are in last place in the FCL East, six games back of the Marlins.

DSL Cardinals 9 at DSL Phillies Red 16
The Dominican Summer League Cardinals were defeated by the Phillies Red in a 16-9 slugfest on Saturday. Starter Juan Severino pitched two innings, gave up nine runs, four earned, on six hits and walked three. Severino took the loss.
Justin Hernandez relieved Severino and surrendered three unearned runs in the third inning. Newcomer Guanchi Martinez threw two scoreless innings. Brailyn Paulino relinquished one run in the sixth. Giovanni Vargas allowed three runs in 1 2/3 innings. Bernard Mack got the final out of the eighth.
The Cardinals scored first with two runs in the top of the first inning. Daniel Rojas singled and scored on a double by Yordalin Pena. Pena scored on a single by Fecundo Velasquez.
The Phillies Red answered in the home half of the first to take a 6-2 lead.
The Cardinals cut the lead to 6-4 in the top of the second. Paul Asprillo drew a walk. Marcelo Perez reached on an error. Andru Arthur singled to score Asprillo. Perez was out on the throw at home. Arthur scored on a single by Rojas.
The Phillies Red added three runs in the bottom of the second. The Cardinals scored two more in the top of the third on a two-run triple by Arthur to shrink the lead to 9-6.
The Phillies Red made it 12-6 in the bottom of the third. The Cardinals scored one in the fourth on a single by Asprillo.
The Phillies Red continued to add to their lead with one run in the sixth and three runs in the eighth to make it 16-7.
The Cardinals added their final two runs in the ninth. Arthur reached on an error and Elias Reynoso walked. Arthur scored on a wild pitch. Reynoso came home on a sac fly by Pena.
Arthur was 2-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored. Rojas was 2-for-5 with an RBI. Asprilla was 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Pena drove in two.
On the base paths, Reynoso stole his fifth base of the season. Reynoso committed two fielding errors. Arthur had a fielding miscue.
The Cardinals are 8-17 on the season and are in seventh place in the DSL South, 10.5 games back of the Phillies White.
