The St. Louis Cardinals system went 2-3 on Friday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Peoria LF Nathan Church, went 4-for-6 with two RBI, three runs and an outfield assist. Other standouts include Andrew Suárez, Jimmy Crooks, Nelfy Ynfante and Fernando Roquez.

The Memphis Redbirds (2-8) were edged by the Indianapolis Indians (PIT, 7-3) on Friday at Victory Field.
In a bullpen game, Andrew Suárez pitched four scoreless innings on three hits. The left-hander walked none and fanned three.
The Redbirds scored their only run in the fourth inning. Matt Koperniak and Tyler O’Neill walked. Juan Yepez singled to load the bases. Moisés Gómez grounded into a double play and Koperniak came across. The Indians scored both runs in the fifth.
Out of the bullpen, Ryan Loutos took his second Triple-A loss after he surrendered two runs on six hits and four punchouts in three innings. Dalton Roach walked one in a scoreless frame.
In the second game of his rehab assignment, O’Neill went 1-for-2 with a single and a walk. Yepez had the only other hit for the Redbirds. The lineup went 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position with four walks.
Masyn Winn stole his 15th bag of the season. In the field, Kramer Robertson committed a throwing error.

Springfield vs. Amarillo – Postponed
Due to inclement weather in the Springfield area, the Springfield Cardinals (5-4) and Amarillo Sod Poodles (AZ, 5-4) contest was postponed to Saturday.
Saturday’s games:
- vs. Amarillo, RHP Wilfredo Pereira (5-4, 3.91) vs. TBA 6:35 CT (Game 1)
- vs. Amarillo, LHP Alex Cornwell (0-0, 0.00) vs. RHP Denyi Olivero (5-5, 9.00) Time TBA (Game 2)
With a late offensive blitz, the Peoria Chiefs (8-5) defeated the South Bend Cubs (CHC, 4-9) at Four Winds Field on Friday night.
Zane Mills pitched 3 2/3 innings and gave up one run. The right-hander yielded four hits, one walk and four punchouts.
The Chiefs put up five runs in the first two innings. Osvaldo Tovalin brought in two runs in the first via single. In the second, Nathan Church doubled to score one. R.J. Yeager and Ramon Mendoza recorded RBI singles.

The Cubs tied the game in the fifth as reliever Andrew Marrero surrendered four runs on five hits and two walks. The 23-year-old fanned five in 3 1/3 innings and thanks to the late offensive comeback, received his second win of the year. Edwin Nunez tossed two scoreless frames and earned his first High-A save.
Peoria scored seven runs between the eighth and ninth innings. Darlin Moquete blasted a solo home run for the lead in the eighth.
In the ninth, Jimmy Crooks doubled to score one. Mendoza laid down a bunt to plate one and Jeremy Rivas was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Luis Rodriguez recorded a sacrifice fly. Moquete and Church singled to make the score 12-5.

Church went 4-for-6 with a double, three singles, three runs and two RBI. Crooks recorded three hits, one walk, two runs and one RBI. Mendoza and Tovalin had two hits apiece. The lineup went a productive 7-for-13 with runners in scoring position.
In the field, Church threw a runner out at home.
Saturday’s game: at South Bend, RHP Ian Bedell (3-2, 1.98) vs. RHP Luis Devers (0-1, 6.75) 6:05 CT
The Palm Beach Cardinals (3-10) were walked off by the Clearwater Threshers (PHI, 9-4) on Friday at BayCare Ballpark.
Starter Jose Davila tossed seven innings and gave up two runs on three hits and three walks. The right-hander struck out five.
The Beach Birds scored both runs in the first inning. Won-Bin Cho came across on a wild pitch. Michael Curialle singled to plate one for the 2-0 lead. Clearwater tied the game in the second inning.
Out of the bullpen, Chandler Arnold yielded the winning run in 1 1/3 innings and took his second loss of 2023.
Cho recorded the only multi-hit game with two. Carlos Linazrez doubled and Chris Rotondo tripled. The lineup went 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position.
On the base paths, Cho took a bag and Adanson Cruz was caught stealing.
Saturday’s game: at Clearwater, RHP Hancel Rincon (6-4, 3.28) vs. TBA 5:30 CT
FCL Cardinals 3 at FCL Marlins 5
The Florida Complex League Cardinals (9-14) were defeated by the Marlins (15-9) at Roger Dean Stadium on Friday afternoon.
Starter Ruben Menes pitched two innings and yielded an unearned run on a hit and three walks. The 21-year-old struck out four. Ludwin Jimenez tossed a scoreless frame. Randel Clemente took his second loss after he gave up three runs in 1 1/3 innings.
The Cardinals struck in the first inning as Justin Guerrero blasted a solo homer, his second of the year. Raul Guzman hit his second home run of the season to make the score 2-1 in the third.
Yonael Dominguez surrendered one run in 1 2/3 innings on three hits. Antoni Cuello recorded 1 2/3 scoreless innings. Diorys Guerrero induced a groundout in 1/3 of an inning.
After the Marlins scored four runs in the fifth inning, the Cardinals answered with one in the sixth. After Anyelo Encarnacion walked, stole second and advanced to third on a balk, he came across on a wild pitch.
Yaisel Ramos and Jeremy Ramos collected two hits apiece. Y. Ramos tripled and J. Ramos recorded a triple. The lineup had nine hits, six walks and went 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position.
On the bases, Guzman and Encarnacion took a bag each. In the field, Miguel Vargas and Luis Rodriguez committed errors.

The Dominican Summer League Cardinals (8-16) topped the Twins (6-17) on Friday afternoon.
Nelfy Ynfante tossed five solid innings with one run given up on two hits and one walk. The 18-year-old fanned five and earned his second 2023 win.

In the first inning, Fernando Roquez doubled to score two runs. The Twins stole home in the second but Roquez blasted a solo shot in the third to make the score 3-1. In the fourth, Andru Arthur scored on a passed ball and Bracewell Taveras brought one across.
Out of the bullpen, Jarol Baez gave up a run in two innings. Emisael Carrera pitched two scoreless frames.
The Twins made it a three-run game in the seventh with one run. Angel Gil responded with a two-run home run, the first of his career.
Roquez walked, doubled, hit a home run and drove in three runs. Gil walked, homered and plated two runs. The lineup recorded five hits and six walks. The pitching limited the Twins to six hits and two walks.
On the base paths, Arthur and Facundo Velasquez both took a bag.
