The St. Louis Cardinals system was 2-3 on Wednesday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Springfield starter Michael McGreevy, pitched six scoreless innings, on five hits, five strikeouts and one walk. Other standouts: Evan Mendoza, Chase Pinder and Patrick Romeri.

The Memphis Redbirds were trounced by the Durham Bulls in a 10-5 road contest on Wednesday night. Garrett Williams started for Memphis. The left hander pitched 2 2/3 innings, gave up seven runs, three earned, on six hits, struck out two and walked two. Williams took the loss, his second in two starts since his promotion from Springfield.
Another relatively new Redbird, Ryan Loutos, threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings. T. J. McFarland, rehabbing for St. Louis, hurled a scoreless fifth. Kyle Ryan surrendered two runs in the sixth. Brandon Waddell allowed one run in the seventh. Jacob Bosiokovic tossed a scoreless eighth.
Memphis took a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Ben DeLuzio singled and rehabbing St. Louis outfielder Corey Dickerson singled. Tyler O’Neill, also rehabbing, was hit by a pitch. Ivan Herrera grounded into a force out and DeLuzio scored. Luken Baker flied into a double play as Dickerson scored.
Durham put up seven runs in the third inning to take a 7-2 lead. The Bulls added two more in the sixth for a 9-2 lead. The Redbirds plated two runs in the seventh on a solo home run by Evan Mendoza and an RBI single by O’Neill.

The Bulls made it 10-4 in the home half of the seventh. Memphis scored one more run in the eighth when Clint Coulter doubled, advanced to third on a ground out, and scored on a passed ball.
DeLuzio was 2-for-4. No other Redbird had multiple hits. Mendoza homered and walked twice. Baker, Herrera and O’Neill each had an RBI.
In the field, shortstop Mendoza and third baseman Delvin Perez each had a fielding error.
Memphis has a record of 44-36 and is in third place in the International League West, 5.5 games back of first place Nashville.
Thursday’s game: at Durham, TBD (likely LHP Steven Matz on rehab) vs. RHP Tommy Romero, 5:35 CT.
The Springfield Cardinals defeated the Arkansas Travelers in an afternoon road contest on Wednesday. Michael McGreevy started for Springfield. The right hander pitched six scoreless innings, allowed five hits, fanned five and walked one to earn his fourth win at Double-A.
Newcomer Logan Gragg threw two scoreless innings of relief. Michael Brettell surrendered five runs in 2/3 innings. Dalton Roach got the final out of the ninth to earn his first save.
The Cardinals took a 2-0 lead in the first on a solo home run by Masyn Winn and an RBI single by Chase Pinder.
In the second the Cardinals put up seven runs to increase the lead to 9-0. Nick Dunn doubled before Justin Toerner and Julio Rodriguez walked. Mike Antico plated Dunn on a walk. Winn singled and Toerner scored. June Player of the Month Malcom Nunez drove in Rodriguez and Antico on a double. Pinder followed with a three-run home run to left field.
Chase Pinder set a career-high this afternoon with his 6th HR of the season coming from this 2-out, 3-run HR to give Springfield the 9-0 lead!

The score remained 9-0 until Arkansas scored five runs in the bottom of the ninth.
Winn went 2-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored. Pinder was 2-for-4 with four RBI. Nunez drove in two.
Springfield is 4-4 in the second half and is in third place in the Texas League North, one game back of first place Arkansas.
Thursday’s game: at Arkansas, RHP Gordon Graceffo (4-1, 3.07) vs. Stephen Kolek RHP (4-7, 4.91) 6:35 CT.
The Chiefs lost to the Sky Carp in an 8-1 game on Wednesday night at Dozer Park. St. Louis’ Drew VerHagen, rehabbing with Peoria, started and pitched one scoreless inning with no hits, no strikeouts and no walks.
Regular starter Dionys Rodriguez took over in the second and surrendered two runs in four innings. Nick Trogrlic-Iverson threw a scoreless sixth. Nathanael Heredia allowed four runs in his two innings of work. Colin Schmid relinquished two unearned runs in the ninth. Rodriguez took the loss, his ninth of the season.
Beloit scored one run in each of the second and third innings to go up 2-0. In the sixth, Peoria scored their only run of the game on a solo home run by Todd Lott.
The Sky Carp added four runs in the seventh and two runs in the ninth to turn a close game into a rout.
Peoria scored one run on four hits. In addition to the Lott long ball, Brady Whalen doubled. Carlos Soto and Ramon Mendoza singled.
Francisco Hernandez made a throwing error. Lott had an outfield assist at home.
Peoria is 3-8 in the second half and is in last place in the Midwest League West, six games back of first place South Bend.
Thursday’s game: vs. Beloit, RHP Edgar Manzo (2-1, 5.40) vs. Pat Monteverde LHP (2-2, 2.73) 6:35 CT.
As the away team, the Cardinals beat the Hammerheads by the score of 6-4 in a Wednesday night contest at Roger Dean Stadium. Tink Hence started for Palm Beach. The right hander pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings on 49 pitches, allowed three hits, struck out four and walked one.
Andrew Marrero threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings, including retiring an inherited runner from Hence. Jack Ralston surrendered one run in 1 1/3 innings. Alfredo Ruiz finished the sixth for Ralston. Griffin Roberts allowed two runs in just 2/3 of an inning. Roy Garcia secured the final out of the seventh with two runners on and remained for the final 2 1/3 innings, relinquishing one run. Garcia earned his sixth save. Ralston got the win.
The Beach Birds jumped ahead 1-0 in the first inning. Jeremy Rivas singled, stole second base, and came home on a single by Aaron McKeithan. The Hammerheads tied it at 1-1 in the fifth.
Palm Beach took a 2-1 lead in the sixth on an RBI single by Elijah Cabell. Patrick Romeri hit a two-run home run in the seventh to give the Cardinals a 4-1 lead.
Jupiter rallied with two runs in the seventh, but the Cardinals added two of their own in the top of the eighth. McKeithan doubled, and Cabell drew a walk. McKeithan and Cabell scored on a single by Sander Mora.
The Hammerheads added their final run in the home eighth to bring the score to 6-4.
Jesus Orrechia was 3-for-4 with three singles. Romeri was 2-for-3 with two RBI. McKeithan was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Mora drove in two.
On the base paths, Rivas stole his seventh base of the season. In the field, Cabell and Romeri each had an outfield assist at second base.
Palm Beach is 9-2 in the second half and is in first place in the FSL East.
Thursday’s game: at Jupiter, Carlos Guarate RHP (3-3, 3.64) vs. TBD 5:30 CT.
FCL Cardinals – Off day
The Florida Complex League Cardinals are 8-12 on the season, tied for 12th in the 16-team rookie league, seven games back of the Yankees.

DSL Cardinals 5 at DSL Twins 6
The Cardinals (11-13) were edged by the Twins in a one-run loss on Wednesday morning. Starter Ronny Oliver pitched four innings, gave up one run on three hits, struck out four and walked two.
Samuel Fabian surrendered three runs in 1 2/3 innings of relief. Omar Yanez allowed two runs in 2 1/3 innings and took the loss, his second of the season.
The Cardinals scored first and took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Jonathan Mejia drew a walk and Luis Rodriguez followed with a single. Jose Suarez singled to score Mejia.
The Cardinals increased the lead to 2-0 in the second on an RBI double by Maycol Justo. Two more runs were added in the third on a triple by Yordalin Pena and a double by Arfeni Batista.
The Twins put up their first run in the fourth to make it 4-1. The Cardinals answered with one run in the sixth to increase the lead to 5-1. Batista reached on an error and later scored on a wild pitch.
The Twins scored three in the home half of the sixth to cut the lead to 5-4. They then added two more in the seventh for the final score of 6-5.
Pena went 2-for-5 with an RBI. Justo, Suarez, and Batista each drove in a run.
On the base paths, Mejia was picked off and caught stealing. In the field, Miguel Vargas had an outfield assist at first base. Yanez picked a runner off second base.
