The St. Louis Cardinals system went 4-2 on Saturday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Tres Barrera, had three hits including a grand slam, a walk and three runs scored in Memphis’ loss. Other standouts include Alex Cornwell, Inohan Paniagua, William Sullivan and Yaisel Ramos.

Wasting a late comeback, the Memphis Redbirds (51-50) fell to the Iowa Cubs (CHC, 59-40) on Saturday at AutoZone Park.
Due to the call-up of Matthew Liberatore, the Redbirds had a bullpen game. Kyle Leahy tossed the first 1 2/3 innings and gave up three runs. Ryan Loutos surrendered a run with four strikeouts in 1 2/3 frames. In his first outing since his return from St. Louis, Zack Thompson fanned three in 1 2/3 scoreless innings.
After the Cubs scored three in the second inning, the Redbirds answered with three in the third. Masyn Winn, Tommy Edman and Juan Yepez singled to plate one each. In the fourth, Juniel Querecuto brought in a run via groundout and Richiel Palacios walked with the bases loaded.
The Cubs took the lead by one run in the sixth inning. In the seventh, Tres Barrera hit a grand slam to take a 9-6 lead. South Bend tied the game in the eighth and took the lead in the ninth as the Redbirds pen faltered.

In 2 2/3 innings of relief, Chris Roycroft gave up four runs, three earned, on five hits, a walk and four punchouts. Dalton Roach yielded four runs in 2/3 of an inning and took his first Triple-A loss. To close out the game, Guillermo Zuñiga was charged with a run in 2/3 of an inning.
Barrera went 3-for-3 including a grand slam, a walk and three runs scored. José Fermín tripled, walked and came across twice. Every Redbird was on base at least once. The lineup went 4-for-10 with runners in scoring position and the pitching gave up four extra-base hits.
In the first game of his rehab assignment from St. Louis, Edman was 1-for-5 with a single, one RBI and a run scored.
Palacios stole his eighth bag of the season and Chase Pinder was picked off. Edman committed a throwing error. Moisés Gómez recorded an outfield assist.
Sunday’s game: vs. Iowa, RHP Michael McGreevy (6-2, 4.15) vs. RHP Ben Brown (6-6, 5.10) 2:05 CT
The Springfield Cardinals (13-13) were edged by the Tulsa Drillers (LAD, 9-17) at ONEOK Field on Saturday night.
Alex Cornwell tossed 6 1/3 innings and gave up one run on three hits and one walk. The left-hander fanned two.
In the fifth inning, Irving Lopez scored on an error. The second basemen doubled in the sixth to bring home another run. The Drillers put up four runs in the seventh to flip the lead.
Out of the bullpen, Jose Martinez was charged with three runs in 1/3 of an inning. Nick Trogrlic-Iverson pitched 1 1/3 scoreless frames.
The Cardinals attempted a comeback in the ninth inning. Victor Scott II singled, stole second and came across on an error. With the tying run at third and one out, Springfield could not complete the rally.
Scott and Jose Alvarez recorded two hits apiece. Lopez had the only extra-base hit, a double. The lineup went 3-for-15 with runners in scoring position and left 11 runners on base.
On the bases, Alvarez took one bag. Scott and Jacob Buchberger stole two each.
Sunday’s game: at Tulsa, RHP Logan Gragg (2-4, 5.35) vs. RHP Kyle Hurt (2-3, 3.96) 1:05 CT
The Peoria Chiefs (14-15) topped the South Bend Cubs (CHC, 13-16) to end their nine-game losing streak.
Starter Inohan Paniagua threw four scoreless frames and yielded one hit and one walk. TCN’s no. 22 prospect struck out four.
In the first inning, Alex Iadisernia came across after a stolen base and a wild pitch. The center fielder scored in the third on a wild pitch. Jeremy Rivas plated two via a single in the fourth. Francisco Hernandez doubled and Rivas scored on an error. Tyler Reichenborn’s RBI double made the score 6-0.

Andrew Marrero pitched three scoreless innings with three punchouts. The 23-year-old earned his third win. Edgar Manzo surrendered two runs in two innings.
The Chiefs put up an insurance run in the seventh inning. Osvaldo Tovalin singled to score Nathan Church.
Tovalin, Rivas and Carlos Linarez all collected two hits. Tovalin, Hernandez and Reichenborn doubled. Rivas plated two. The lineup had 11 hits and three walks.
Iadisernia stole two bases and Church took one.
Sunday’s game: vs. South Bend, RHP Ian Bedell (4-2, 2.40) vs. RHP Connor Noland (1-5, 3.61) 1:05 CT
After an hour and a half delay, The Palm Beach Cardinals (11-16) defeated the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels (MIN, 12-17) at Hammond Stadium on Saturday night.
Starter Jose Davila yielded two runs in 3 2/3 innings on four hits, a walk and four punchouts.
The Beach Birds scored seven runs between the second and third innings. In the second, RBI singles from Dakota Harris and William Sullivan made the score 2-0. Leonardo Bernal drove in two runs via single in the third. Sullivan plated one with a groundout and Joshua Baez brought two across with a double.
In relief, Benjamin Arias earned his first Low-A win after four scoreless frames with three strikeouts. Hunter Hayes closed out the game with three strikeouts in 1 1/3 hitless innings.
Zach Levenson doubled in the sixth inning to score one run. In the eighth, Won-Bin Cho’s double made the score 9-2.
The lineup recorded nine hits, four walks and went 7-for-15 with runners in scoring position. Sullivan went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored and two RBI. Bernal also drove in two with two runs scored. Levenson and Michael Curialle had two hits.
Lizandro Espinoza committed a throwing error, his 14th of the year.

FCL Cardinals 14, FCL Astros 11 (7 innings, Game 1)
The Florida Complex League Cardinals (12-22) outslugged the Astros (16-18) in Game 1 of a doubleheader on Saturday.
Starter Darlin Saladin pitched 3 2/3 innings and gave up five runs on six hits and three walks. The 20-year-old struck out four. Luis Gastelum yielded five runs in 2/3 of an inning.
After the Astros scored one in the first, the Cardinals tied the game in the second with a Justin Guerrero RBI single. In the third, Luis Rodriguez gave the Cardinals the lead with a double. Jose Cordoba drove in a run and Yaisel Ramos hit an inside-the-park home run to score two. The Astros took the lead in the fifth.
Antoni Cuello surrendered a run in 1 2/3 innings on two hits and two walks. The right-hander received his second win. Miguel Martinez saved his second game with a perfect seventh inning.
In the fifth, the Cardinals put up five runs to respond to the Astros’ five runs in the top half. Brody Moore, Adari Grant and Luis Pino all walked with the bases loaded. Rodriguez gave the Cardinals the lead with a single but the Astros tied it in the sixth. Miguel Vargas provided the final edge with a three-run homer in the home sixth, his first of the season.
Ramos went 3-for-4 with two RBI and three runs scored. Rodriguez singled, doubled, drove in three runs and came across once. Every Cardinal was on base at least once as the team had 10 hits and 11 walks.
In his rehab assignment from Peoria, Moore went 2-for-3 with a double, two walks, one RBI and two runs.
Moore and Javier Bolivar both took a bag. In the field, Cordoba and Guerrero committed errors. Cordoba threw a runner out at home from left field.
FCL Cardinals 4 at FCL Astros 0 (7 innings, Game 2)
The Florida Complex League Cardinals (13-22) blanked the Astros (16-19) in Game 2 of the doubleheader at the Ballpark of the Palm Beaches.
In a bullpen game, Chander Arnold tossed three no-hit innings with one walk and one punchout. Diorys Guerrero struck out one in a scoreless inning of relief.
Newcomer Sammy Hernandez blasted a solo home run in the second inning, his first with his new club. Samil De La Rosa made it 2-0 in the third with a sacrifice fly. Hernandez and Romtres Cabrera came across on wild pitches in the third inning.
Randel Clemente earned his first win after a scoreless inning with a strikeout. Alexander Beltre walked three and struck out two in two scoreless frames.
Hernandez went 2-for-3 with two runs and a home run in his first game after joining the Cardinals from the Blue Jays organization. Felix Taveras, Alejandro Loaiza and Anyelo Encarnacion had one hit apiece. The lineup went 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position.
Justin Guerrero took his first bag of the season.
At 13-22, the Cards are in fifth/last place in the FCL East, 8.5 games out of first.

DSL Cardinals – Off
On Sunday morning, the American and National League DSL All-Stars face off. Two Cardinals, left-handed starter Yadiel Batista and center fielder Yordalin Pena, are participating.
In the Dominican Summer League South, the Cardinals (11-28) are in seventh place, 19 games back of first.
