The St. Louis Cardinals system went 2-2 on Sunday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, C Carlos Linarez, hit a 10th inning grand slam in Peoria’s win. Other standouts include Victor Scott, Pete Hansen, Alex Iadisernia and Ixan Henderson.

The Memphis Redbirds (11-16) were crushed by the Columbus Clippers (17-9, CLE) 10-3 on Sunday at Huntington Park. Gordon Graceffo’s start was cut short after a comebacker hit his pitching hand. The right-hander threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing two hits and struck out one.
The Redbirds broke the scoreless tie in the top of the third on Victor Scott II’s RBI single to plate Nick Dunn.

The Clippers responded in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI fielder’s choice, an RBI single, and a throwing error by catcher Iván Herrera while trying to catch a runner stealing allowed the runner on third to come home. Columbus added to their lead in the fourth with a solo shot and a sacrifice fly to make the score 5-1.
Scott II knocked in another with an RBI groundout in the top of the fifth.
Another solo home run in the bottom of the fifth gave the home team a 6-2 lead. In the sixth, a runner stole home after Herrera threw out a runner at third.
Matt Koperniak’s solo bomb to left field in the top of the seventh brought the deficit to four runs.

A two-RBI single and an RBI double gave Columbus a 10-3 lead.
Connor Thomas took his third loss this season, throwing 3 2/3 innings, allowing six runs, three earned, on five hits while walking one and striking out five. Rehabber Riley O’Brien threw 2/3 of an inning, yielding one run on one hit while walking two. Jacob Bosiokovic pitched 1 1/3 innings, giving up three runs on five hits while striking out two. Ryan Loutos threw a scoreless inning while striking out two. Memphis allowed 10 runs, seven earned, on 13 hits while walking three and striking out 10.
Scott II was 1-for-4 with two RBI. Koperniak went 1-for-3 with a home run, a walk, an RBI, and a run scored. Gavin Collins was 2-for-3 including a double. The Redbirds totaled three runs on six hits with four walks and one strikeout.
The Memphis Redbirds woes continue with just one win in their six-game series against the Columbus Clippers and two wins out of nine games since the All-Star break. The Redbirds will hope to turn things around as they continue their road trip at the Durham Bulls (12-15, TBR) on Tuesday.

Springfield 0, Corpus Christi 9
The Springfield Cardinals (17-10) were shut out by the Corpus Christi Hooks (7-19, HOU) 9-0 on Sunday at Hammons Field.
Starter Brandon Komar took his first loss this season, throwing 3 1/3 innings, and allowing five runs on nine hits while striking out three. The Hooks struck first in the first with an RBI double. They added to their lead in the second with an RBI double and two RBI singles. An RBI single in the fourth gave the Hooks a 5-0 lead.
Wilfredo Pereira came into the game in the fourth, and in the fifth, he gave up a two-run homer and two RBI singles. Reliever Leonardo Taveras yielded a solo shot in the eighth which made the score 9-0.
Pereira threw 1 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on four hits while walking one and striking out four. Nathanael Heredia pitched two scoreless innings, yielding two hits and two walks while striking out two. Taveras threw an inning, giving up a run on one hit while walking two and striking out one. Springfield allowed nine runs on 16 hits while walking five and striking out 10.
The Springfield offense couldn’t put anything together on Sunday. Matt Lloyd went 1-for-3 with a double and a walk. Wade Stauss hit 1-for-2 with a double and two walks. Bryan Torres was 2-for-5 with a double. Tommy Edman didn’t reach in five at-bats while striking out four times as his rehab assignment continues. The Cardinals totaled no runs on seven hits with five walks and nine strikeouts while hitting 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position and stranding 10 men on base.
The Springfield Cardinals won four of six in their home series against the Corpus Christi Hooks. The Cardinals will begin a six-game road series at the Tulsa Drillers (14-12, LAD) on Tuesday.

Peoria 6 at South Bend 5 (10 innings)
The Peoria Chiefs (15-15) squeaked out a win over the South Bend Cubs (10-20, CHC) by a score of 6-5 on Sunday at Four Winds Field. Starter Pete Hansen threw six innings, allowing two runs on four hits while walking one and striking out nine.
The Cubs struck first in the fourth on a two-run homer to left field.
Alex Iadisernia tied the game in the seventh on a two-RBI triple that plated Leonardo Bernal and Won-Bin Cho.

The Chiefs took a four-run lead in the top of the 10th on Carlos Linarez’s grand slam, his first homer this season.

South Bend attempted to mount a comeback as reliever Osvaldo Berrios gave up a three-run longball to bring the Cubs within one, but they could not fully close the gap.
Tanner Jacobson pitched a scoreless inning, yielding a walk. Zane Mills pitched a scoreless inning while striking out one. Berrios earned his first win this season, throwing 1 1/3 innings, despite giving up three runs, two earned, on three hits while walking one and striking out one. Dionys Rodriguez earned his third save this season, throwing 2/3 of an inning while striking out one. Peoria allowed five runs, four earned, on seven hits while walking three and striking out 12.
Iadisernia was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI, and a run scored. Linarez was 1-for-4, a grand slam, four RBI, and a run scored. Bernal went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. The Chiefs totaled six runs on seven hits with a walk and eight strikeouts.
The Peoria Chiefs split their six-game series with the South Bend Cubs while winning three of their last four. The Chiefs will begin a six-game home series on Tuesday against the Quad Cities River Bandits (14-16, KCR).

The Palm Beach Cardinals (19-9) defeated the St. Lucie Mets (9-21, NYM) 5-1 on Sunday at Clover Park. Starter Ixan Henderson earned his sixth win this season, throwing five innings, and allowing one run on three hits while walking two and striking out two.
Palm Beach struck first in the top of the first on an RBI triple by Kade Kretzschmar.
The Mets responded in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI groundout.
The Cardinals regained the lead in the third on Jose Cordoba’s RBI single, a double steal by Cordoba and Brayden Jobert as Jobert swiped second and Cordoba came home, and Lizandro Espinoza’s RBI single.
The visitors added an insurance run in the sixth to make the score 5-1 on Trey Paige’s RBI double.
Kretzschmar was 2-for-4 with a triple, an RBI, and a run scored. Jobert was 2-for-3 with a HBP and a run scored. Adari Grant went 2-for-4 with a double. The Cardinals totaled five runs on 12 hits with one walk and nine strikeouts.
Hunter Hayes and Zack Showalter each threw a scoreless inning while striking out two. Augusto Calderon added a scoreless inning, yielding a hit while striking out one. Henry Gomez pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a hit and a walk while striking out one. Palm Beach allowed one run on five hits while walking three and striking out eight.
The Palm Beach Cardinals won five of six in their series at the St. Lucie Mets, and they won eight of their 10 matchups during their road trip. The Cardinals come home to face the Bradenton Marauders (11-19, PIT) in a six-game series starting Tuesday.

DSL Cardinals – Off Sunday
The Dominican Summer League Cardinals (19-17) were off Sunday. The fifth-place rookie-level squad will continue playing on Monday against the DSL Giants Black (28-10, SFG).
