Cardinals Minor League Notebook – July 26, 2022

The St. Louis Cardinals system went 2-0 on Monday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Yonael Dominguez, tossed seven innings with one run surrendered for the FCL Cardinals. Other standouts include Jonathan Mejia and Carlos Carmona.

Memphis Redbirds – Off

The Redbirds (51-42) are 4.5 games behind first place Nashville in the International League East.

Springfield Cardinals – Off

The Cardinals (13-8) are in first place in the Texas League North.

Tuesday’s game: vs. Frisco, RHP Michael McGreevy (5-2, 3.98) vs. TBA 6:35 CT

Peoria Chiefs – Off

The Chiefs (10-14) are seven games out of first place in the Midwest League West.

Tuesday’s game: vs. Fort Wayne, RHP Austin Love (5-8, 6.28) vs. TBA 6:35 CT

Palm Beach Cardinals – Off

The Beach Birds (14-10) are in first place in the Florida State League East.

FCL Cardinals 7 at FCL Astros Orange 2

The Florida Complex League Cardinals (15-16) topped the Astros Orange (13-17) at The Ballpark of the Palm Beaches on Monday.

Starter Yonael Dominguez tossed an impressive seven innings with only a solo home run yielded. The right-hander struck out four and earned his third win.

The Cardinals scored all seven runs in the eighth inning. Raul Guzman came across on a wild pitch to tie the game. Felix Taveras recorded two RBI and Carlos Linarez doubled to plate two. Linarez came across on a wild pitch and in his second plate appearance in the inning, Guzman doubled to score a run.

Augusto Calderon gave up one run in two innings. The 21-year-old fanned three batters.

The lineup had six hits, eight walks and struck out 14 times. Guzman had the only multi-hit game with two.

Adari Grant committed two errors and Samil De La Rosa had one. Both have 13 errors this season.

The Cardinals are seven games behind the first place Nationals in the FCL East.

DSL Cardinals 11, DSL Giants 5

The Dominican Summer League Cardinals (20-18) topped the Giants Orange (15-21) on Monday afternoon.

Darlin Saladin threw 4 2/3 innings with two runs surrendered on four hits, two walks and four strikeouts. Miguel Martinez was charged with two runs, one earned, in 1 1/3 innings.

In the second, Carlos Carmona drove in a run via sacrifice fly. Maycol Justo and Luis Rodriguez singled in the third to plate one each. Jonathan Mejia came across on an error in the fifth. Carmona recorded an RBI double in the sixth inning to take a 5-4 lead.

Junior Chirinos yielded a run in two innings on three hits and one walk. The 17-year-old fanned three and won his second professional game. Bruno Lopez closed out the win with a scoreless ninth.

In the eighth, the Cardinals added six runs. Carmona plated another run, his third of the game. Armani Batista scored on a wild pitch and Mejia brought across two. Rodriguez recorded an RBI single and Justo came across on an error to make the score 11-5.

Mejia, Rodriguez and Jose Suarez all recorded two hits. Carmona drove in three runs in the contest. The lineup went 4-for-13 with runners in scoring position and the Giants committed six errors.

Mejia and Yancel Guerrero each took a bag. Suarez recorded an outfield assist as he threw out a runner at home.

The Cardinals are 4.5 games behind the Rockies in the DSL South and are off Tuesday.
