The St. Louis Cardinals system went 3-1 on Saturday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Memphis’ Ian Bedell, threw 7 2/3 one-run innings. Other standouts include Jose Fermin, Nathan Church, Chandler Redmond, the Springfield pen, Zach Levenson and Justin Guerrero.

The Memphis Redbirds (10-10) beat the Iowa Cubs (9-11, CHC) in a low-scoring affair by a score of 2-1 on Saturday at AutoZone Park. Starter Ian Bedell earned his second Triple-A win, throwing 7 2/3 innings, allowing one run on five hits while walking one and striking out five.
The Cubs took the lead in the first with a solo home run.
The Redbirds responded in the second with a José Fermín RBI double that tied the game at one apiece.

Fermín went 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Saggese was 1-for-2 with a walk and an RBI. Jared Young was 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored. The Redbirds totaled two runs on eight hits with three walks and five strikeouts.
Ryan Loutos pitched a scoreless 1/3 of an inning. St. Louis rehabber Riley O’Brien earned his first save, throwing a scoreless inning, yielding one hit and two walks. Memphis allowed one run on six hits while walking three and striking out five.
Sunday’s game: vs. Iowa, RHP Gordon Graceffo (8-5, 4.05) vs. Connor Noland 1:05 CT.
The Springfield Cardinals (13-7) won a back-and-forth game at the Amarillo Sod Poodles (7-13, ARI) 7-4 on Saturday at Hodgetown. Starter Alex Cornwell threw 4 1/3 innings, allowing four runs on four hits while walking four and striking out three.
The Sod Poodles took the lead in the first with two RBI singles.
The Cardinals cut the deficit in half in the second on Aaron McKeithan’s RBI single. Springfield took the lead in the top of the fifth with RBI singles from Bryan Torres, Chandler Redmond, and Nathan Church that made the score 4-2.
Amarillo tied the game in the bottom of the fifth with a sacrifice fly and an RBI double.
Redmond gave the Springbirds the lead with an RBI double and Church extended the lead with an RBI single. He then stole second and third and later came home on a throwing error by the opposing catcher.

Torres was 1-for-2 with a walk, an RBI, and a run scored. Redmond was 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI. Church went 2-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored. The Cardinals totaled seven runs on 14 hits with two walks and five strikeouts.
The Springfield pen kept the home club off the board for the final 4 2/3 innings. Brandon Komar threw 2 1/3 innings, allowing two hits. Jack Ralston earned his third win this season, pitching 1 1/3 innings, yielding two walks while striking out three. Matt Svanson earned his 15th save this season, giving up a hit while striking out one in the ninth. Springfield allowed four runs on seven hits while walking six and striking out seven.
Sunday’s game: at Amarillo, RHP Max Rajcic (7-7, 4.88) vs. Dylan Ray RHP (0-1, 4.22) 6:05 CT.
Peoria 4, Beloit 5 (10 innings)
On Saturday at Dozer Park, the Peoria Chiefs (12-11) lost a close contest in extras to the Beloit Sky Carp (12-11, MIA). Starter Inohan Paniagua threw five innings, allowing two runs on four hits while walking three and striking out five.
The Sky Carp took the lead in the top of the fourth with a two-run homer to right-center field.
The Chiefs cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the fourth with Zach Levenson’s RBI groundout. Levenson gave Peoria the lead with his two-RBI double in the sixth.

Beloit regained the lead with a two-RBI single in the top of the eighth.
Peoria tied the game in the bottom of the eighth with Won-Bin Cho’s RBI pinch-hit single.

Osvaldo Berrios took the mound in the 10th and gave up a two-out RBI single to score the ghost runner that made the score 5-4.
Tyler Bradt threw 2 1/3 innings, yielding two runs on one hit while walking two and striking out three. Berrios took his first loss this season, pitching 2 2/3 innings, giving up one run, none earned, on three hits while striking out three. Peoria allowed five runs, four earned, on eight hits while walking five and striking out 11.
Levenson went 2-for-4 including a double and three RBI. Alex Iadisernia was 3-for-5 with a double and two runs scored. Cho was 1-for-1 with an RBI. The Chiefs totaled four runs on 12 hits with three walks and nine strikeouts.
Sunday’s game: vs. Beloit, RHP Hancel Rincon (6-5, 4.41) vs. TBD 2:05 CT.
Palm Beach at Daytona (postponed)
The Palm Beach Cardinals’ (14-7) game against the Daytona Tortugas (12-8, CIN) was postponed due to lightning. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader on August 28th.
Sunday’s game: at Daytona, TBD vs. TBD 4:00 CT.
FCL Cardinals 9 at FCL Marlins 6
The Florida Complex League Cardinals (19-32) defeated the FCL Marlins (38-13, MIA) 9-6 on Saturday at the Roger Dean Stadium Complex (MIA). Starter Leonel Sequera threw a scoreless inning, allowing one hit.
The Cardinals struck first in the second on Justin Guerrero’s RBI single and Yancel Guerrero’s bases-loaded walk.
A wild pitch in the third extended their lead when Yordalin Pena scored on a wild pitch. J. Guerrero had a two-RBI single, Jonathan Mejia hit an RBI single, and Luis Pino reached on an error that brought home J. Guerrero, making the score 7-0.
Y. Guerrero’s RBI groundout in the top of the fifth extended their lead to 8-0.
Jovi Galvez took the mound to start the bottom of the fifth and yielded a two-RBI single before being replaced by Randel Clemente. Clemente gave up a sacrifice fly and a three-RBI double that shrunk the Cards’ lead to 8-6.
The Cardinals added an insurance run in the eighth when Mejia was plunked with the bases loaded to make the final score 9-6.
J. Guerrero went 3-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored. Mejia was 2-for-4 with a triple, a walk, two RBI, and a run scored. Y. Guerrero was 1-for-5 with a walk and two RBI. The Cardinals totaled nine runs on 10 hits with six walks and 10 strikeouts.
Antoni Cuello pitched two scoreless innings, allowing a walk while striking out two. Clemente earned his second win, throwing 1 2/3 innings, and yielding one run on two hits while walking one and striking out two. Samuel Fabian earned his third win this season, pitching two scoreless innings, and giving up a walk while striking out two. The Cardinals allowed six runs on five hits while walking four and striking out six.
The Cardinals are off Sunday.
Monday’s game: vs. FCL Nationals (24-27, WSH), TBD vs. TBD 9:00 CT.
DSL Cardinals – Off Saturday and Sunday
The Dominican Cardinals (15-17) were off Saturday. The rookie level team will resume play on Monday at the DSL Mets Blue (12-21, NYM).
