Cardinals Minor League Notebook – July 20, 2022

The St. Louis Cardinals system was 1-0 on Tuesday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, catcher Justin Guerrero, was 3-for-4 with a triple and four RBI in the DSL Cardinals win over Colorado.

Memphis Redbirds – Off

The Memphis Redbirds are 50-40, 4.5 games back of the Nashville Sounds in third place in the International League West.

Springfield Cardinals- Off

The Springfield Cardinals are 10-8 in the second half, one game back of the Wichita Wind Surge in the Texas League North.

Peoria Chiefs – Off

The Peoria Chiefs are 7-14 in the second half, in fifth place in the Midwest League West, eight games back of the South Bend Cubs.

Palm Beach Cardinals – Off

The Palm Beach Cardinals are 12-9 and in first place in the Florida State League East by one game.

FCL Cardinals – Off

The Florida Complex League Cardinals are 17-16 and are 9.5 games back of the Nationals in fifth place in the East Division.

DSL Cardinals 8, DSL Colorado 7

The Dominican Summer League Cardinals (18-17) edged the Rockies 8-7 in a Tuesday morning contest. Starter Juan Salas pitched five scoreless innings, allowed one hit, struck out three and walked one.

Ronny Oliver struggled, surrendering six runs in two innings of relief. Oliver was charged with a blown save, his first of the season. Jovi Galvez allowed one run in 2/3 innings. Henry Gomez tossed the final 1 1/3 scoreless innings to earn his fourth win of the season.

The Cardinals plated their first run in the second inning. Jose Suarez led off with a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Arfeni Batista singled to score Suarez.

An RBI double from Justin Guerrero in the third brought two more runs home for the Cardinals. In the sixth inning, Colorado scored two to cut the lead to 3-2. The visitors took the lead in the seventh with four runs and added one more in the eighth to make it 7-3 Rockies.

The Cardinals answered in the home half of the ninth and scored five runs to walk off the Rockies with an 8-7 victory. The inning began with a single by Yancel Guerrero, who stole second base. Jonathan Mejia drew a walk. Carlos Carmona also walked to load the bases. Yordalin Pena singled and Guerrero scored. Mejia scored on a sac fly by Suarez. Justin Guerrero hit a triple that scored Carmona and Pena. Keshawn Rombley pinch ran for Justin Guerrero. Arfeni Batista drew a walk. Yaisel Ramos then plated Rombley on a sac fly.

Player of the Day Justin Guerrero went 3-for-4 with four RBI. Suarez was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Yancel Guerrero was 2-for-4.

On the base paths, Yancel Guerrero stole his fourth base of the season. He was also picked off and caught stealing for the second time in the season.

In the field, Justin Guerrero made a throwing error.
