Heading into the break, the St. Louis Cardinals system went 3-1 on Sunday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Palm Beach RH Hunter Kublick, threw five scoreless innings on one hit before three relievers added four perfect innings. Other standouts include Thomas Saggese, R.J. Yeager, Tommy Edman and Jose Suarez.

The Memphis Redbirds (9-9) came back to defeat the Norfolk Tides (8-9, BAL) 8-5 on Sunday at AutoZone Park. Starter Gordon Graceffo threw three innings, allowing three runs on three hits while walking one and striking out four.
The Redbirds struck first in the first with Thomas Saggese’s two-run bomb.

The Tides responded with a two-run longball of their own in the second. Graceffo threw a wild pitch in the third that allowed a runner on third to score, giving Norfolk the lead.
The visitors extended their lead to 5-2 against reliever Ryan Shreve when second basemen Saggese committed a fielding error, allowing a runner to score and an RBI single to center brought in another one.
Memphis responded in the sixth with back-to-back homers from César Prieto and Saggese, Gavin Collins’ RBI single, Victor Scott II’s sacrifice fly, and Prieto reached on a fielding error that plated Nick Dunn and Arquímedes Gamboa.

Saggese was 2-for-4 with two homers, a walk, three RBI, and two runs scored. Prieto was 2-for-4 with a home run, a walk, an RBI, and two runs scored. Collins went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. The Redbirds totaled eight runs on 10 hits with six walks and six strikeouts.
Shreve pitched 2 2/3 innings, allowing two runs, none earned, on two hits while walking two and striking out three. Andre Granillo received his second win this season with Memphis, throwing 2 1/3 scoreless innings, and yielding a hit while striking out two. Ryan Loutos earned his ninth save this season, pitching an inning, and giving up one hit and a walk while striking out two. Memphis allowed five runs, three earned, on seven hits while walking four and striking out 11.
The Memphis Redbirds dropped four of six in their home series versus the Norfolk Tides. After the All-Star Break, the Redbirds will begin a three-game series at home against the Iowa Cubs (8-10, CHC).

The Springfield Cardinals (12-6) dominated the Wichita Wind Surge (5-13, MIN) 16-9 on Sunday at Hammons Field. Starter Edwin Nuñez threw 4 2/3 innings, allowing four runs on three hits while walking one and striking out two.
The Cardinals took an early lead in the first with R.J. Yeager’s three-RBI double, Ramon Mendoza’s RBI single, and Jeremy Rivas’s RBI single.
The home team added four more in the third with Mendoza’s RBI single, Tommy Edman’s two-RBI single, and Matt Lloyd’s RBI double. Rivas’ RBI single in the fourth extended Springfield’s lead to 10-0.
Wichita finally put some runs on the board in the fifth with an RBI single, a two-RBI double, and an RBI double that ended Nuñez’s day on the mound and brought in reliever Osvaldo Berrios. The Wind Surge brought the game to within one in the top of the sixth with a two-run homer, an RBI double, and another two-run home run against the new Springfield reliever Berrios.
Springfield added insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth when Yeager scored on a wild pitch and Bryan Torres’ RBI forceout plated Noah Mendlinger.
Jimmy Crooks’ solo shot in the seventh extended the Cardinals’ lead to 13-9. Edman’s sacrifice fly and Nathan Church’s reaching on a fielding error allowed two more runners to come home in the eighth for a 16-9 final score.
Yeager went 3-for-6 with a double, three RBI, and three runs scored. Designated hitter Edman was 2-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored during his rehab assignment. Mendoza hit 3-for-4 with a walk, two RBI, and a run scored. The Cardinals totaled 16 runs on 16 hits with seven walks and four strikeouts while hitting 9-for-19 with runners in scoring position. Every Springfield batter tallied at least one hit and scored at least once in Sunday’s matchup.
In his three games with Springfield, Edman is 4-for-14 (.286) plus two walks (.353 OBP) with four strikeouts and four RBI. He has yet to play in the field, focusing on his hitting to date.
In relief, Jack Ralston pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings, giving up two hits and two walks while striking out one. Andrew Marrero earned his third win this season, throwing a scoreless inning, and yielding a hit while striking out two. Matt Svanson pitched a scoreless inning, striking out two. Springfield allowed nine runs on 10 hits while walking five and striking out 10.
The Springfield Cardinals won five of six at home over the Wichita Wind Surge in their final series before the All-Star Break. The Cardinals will resume play on Friday at the Amarillo Sod Poodles (6-12, ARI).

The Peoria Chiefs (12-9) fell to the Quad Cities River Bandits (9-12, KC) 6-1 on Sunday at Modern Woodmen Park. Starter Darlin Saladin threw 4 2/3 innings, allowing five runs on seven hits while walking two and striking out eight.
The Chiefs struck in the first when Alex Iadisernia scored on a double play started by Leonardo Bernal.
The River Bandits responded in the third with a three-run homer to take a 3-1 lead and extended their lead to 5-1 in the fifth with two RBI singles.
Tanner Jacobson took the mound in the eighth and allowed an RBI single that made it 6-1.
Roy Garcia threw 2 1/3 scoreless innings, striking out three. Jacobson pitched one inning, yielding a run on a hit while walking three and striking out one. Peoria allowed six runs on eight hits while walking five and striking out 12.
Iadisernia went 1-for-3 with a double, a hit by pitch, and a run scored. Miguel Villarroel tallied the only other hit with a single in the fifth. The Chiefs offense totaled one run on just two hits with two walks and nine strikeouts.
Despite the meager offensive showing Sunday, the Peoria Chiefs had a solid week, winning four of six in their road series at the Quad Cities River Bandits. The Chiefs will have four days of rest due to the All-Star Break and will play the Beloit Sky Carp (10-11, MIA) in a three-game series at home from July 19th to the 21st.

The Palm Beach Cardinals (13-7) one-hit the Clearwater Threshers (7-14, PHI) in their 8-0 win on Sunday at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. Starter Hunter Kublick earned his third win this season, pitching five innings, and allowing no runs on one hit while walking one and striking out five.
The bullpen was even better, going 12 up and 12 down to complete the one-hit shutout. Jason Savacool threw two scoreless innings. Benjamin Arias tossed a scoreless inning, striking out two. Henry Gomez added a scoreless inning, striking out two as well. For the day, Palm Beach allowed no runs on one hit while walking one and striking out nine.
The Cardinals took an early lead in the second with Lizandro Espinoza’s two-RBI double. Palm Beach doubled their lead in the third with Jose Suarez’ RBI single and Brayden Jobert’s single, letting Sammy Hernandez score after Clearwater’s second baseman made a throwing error.
Trey Paige scored on a balk in the fourth and Suarez came home in the fifth after the opposing pitcher threw a wild pitch to make the score 6-0. Anyelo Encarnacion’s two-RBI single in the sixth plated Suarez and Chase Davis to extend their lead to eight.
Suarez went 3-for-5 with a double, an RBI, and two runs scored. Sammy Hernandez was 3-for-4 with a walk and a run scored. Espinoza was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI. The Cardinals totaled eight runs on 13 hits with four walks and 12 strikeouts.
The Palm Beach Cardinals won four of their six home games over the Clearwater Threshers, including three shutouts. The Cardinals will have four days of rest due to the All-Star Break before playing at the Daytona Tortugas (12-7, CIN) in a three-game series from July 19th to the 21st.

FCL Cardinals – off Sunday
The Florida Complex League Cardinals (18-29) are off Sundays. The Cardinals will play a doubleheader on Monday as they will complete their suspended game with the Astros from July 11th. The Astros were leading 6-3 in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Monday’s games: vs. FCL Astros (20-25, HOU), TBD vs. TBD 9:00 CT (Game 1). at FCL Astros, LH Yadiel Batista (0-5, 3.80) vs. TBD (Game 2).
DSL Cardinals – off Sunday
The DSL Cardinals (13-14) are off Sundays. The Cardinals will continue playing on Monday when they will face the DSL Nationals (11-17, WSH) at home.
