The St. Louis Cardinals system went 3-1 on Saturday with a Memphis suspension and two Palm Beach wins. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Thomas Francisco, had three hits and three RBI in two games for the first-place Beach Birds. Other standouts include Logan Gragg, Masyn Winn, Victor Scott and Trent Baker.

Memphis 2, Charlotte 2 (suspended in 8th, to resume on 8/28)
Due to a lighting outage at AutoZone Park, the Memphis Redbirds (61-59) and Charlotte Knights (CWS, 49-72) contest was suspended until Sunday at 1:05.
Starter Aaron Brooks pitched three scoreless innings with one walk and one strikeout. Garrett Williams surrendered a run in four innings and Freddy Pacheco yielded one run in the eighth.
The Redbirds struck first in the second inning after Cory Spangenberg doubled to score Luken Baker. Conner Capel walked with the bases loaded in the eighth. Iván Herrera will come to the dish with the bases loaded on Sunday.

Springfield 2 at NW Arkansas 1
The Springfield Cardinals (27-23) edged the Northwest Arkansas Naturals (SEA, 24-26) at Hammons Field on Sunday.
Right-hander Logan Gragg made his first start for Springfield and tossed a solid four innings with only one run surrendered. The 24-year-old fanned seven batters. Michael YaSenka recorded a scoreless fifth inning.
After the Naturals scored a run in the second, the Cardinals responded in the third with two. Errol Robinson walked and Masyn Winn blasted a two-run homer, his 11th in Double-A and 17th overall.

John Beller earned his third win for Springfield after a scoreless 2 2/3 innings. Dalton Roach saved his fifth game of the year after he struck out two in 1 1/3 innings.
Brady Whalen had the only multi-hit game with two. Winn had the only extra-base hit. The lineup left nine runners on base. Mike Antico donned the platinum sombrero (five strikeouts in five at-bats).
Whalen stole one bag and Robinson took two.
Sunday’s game: at NW Arkansas, RHP Edgar Escobar (7-9, 6.84) vs. TBA 2:05 CT
The Peoria Chiefs (22-31) were destroyed by the Beloit Sky Carp (MIA, 28-25) on Saturday at ABC Supply Stadium.
Wilfredo Pereira tossed five innings and was touched for seven runs, six earned, on nine hits, a walk and two strikeouts. The right-hander took his sixth loss of the year.
The Chiefs were on the board in the third inning after Luis Rodriguez had an RBI single and came across on a wild pitch. Beloit responded with seven runs in the next two innings. In the fifth, Tommy Jew and Noah Mendlinger each grounded out to bring across a run and make the score 7-4.
Chris Roycroft yielded two unearned runs on three hits in two innings. Nathanael Heredia gave up three runs, two earned, in an inning.
Mack Chambers and Rodriguez had the only hits for Peoria. The lineup went 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position and had no extra-base hits.
Chambers and Osvaldo Tovalin committed errors.
Sunday’s game: at Beloit, RHP Zane Mills (3-6, 4.32) vs. LHP Luis Palacios (2-1, 3.72) 1:05 CT
Palm Beach 3 at St. Lucie 1 (7 innings, Game 1)
In a makeup game from August 26th, the Palm Beach Cardinals (29-23) topped the St. Lucie Mets (NYM, 27-25) at Clover Park on Saturday.
Starter Trent Baker tossed a solid six innings with one run surrendered. The right-hander fanned eight batters and earned his ninth win of 2022.
In the second, Jeremy Rivas grounded into a double play and Thomas Francisco came across. Nathan Church drove in a run via sacrifice fly in the third but the Mets responded with one in the home half. Francisco added an insurance run in the sixth inning with a sac fly.
Andrew Marrero struck out two in the seventh inning and earned his eighth save of the season. The 2021 draftee has 48 strikeouts in 31 innings this year.
The Beach Birds had four hits and three walks in the seven-inning contest. Michael Curialle doubled and Church recorded a triple. The lineup went 1-for-5 with runners in scoring position.
2022 draftee Brody Moore took his third bag of the season.
Palm Beach 4 at St. Lucie 2 (7 innings, Game 2)
The Palm Beach Cardinals (30-23) beat the St. Lucie Mets (NYM, 27-26) in Game 2 of the doubleheader on Saturday night.
Hancel Rincon had a nice outing with five strikeouts and one run given up in five innings. The 20-year-old earned his second win of the year.
The Beach Birds scored a run in both the third and fourth innings. Victor Scott II homered in the third, the second of his professional career. Leonardo Bernal tripled to score Francisco in the fourth and make the score 2-1.

Francisco added some much-needed insurance runs in the seventh after he singled to plate two.
Alex Cornwell surrendered a run in the seventh inning but held on to save his third game of the year.
Scott, St. Louis’ 2022 round 5 draft pick, went 2-for-3 including a home run plus a walk. Francisco also had two hits and drove in two. The lineup went just 1-for-4 with runners in scoring position but found enough offense to sweep in the battle for first place.
Darlin Moquete stole his fifth base of the season.
Sunday’s game: at St. Lucie, RHP Yonael Dominguez (0-2, 6.05) vs. RHP Mike Vasil (3-1, 1.80) 11:10 CT
