The St. Louis Cardinals system was 3-1 on Friday as Palm Beach won two. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, 2B Thomas Saggese, hit two home runs with four RBI in Springfield’s win. Other standouts include Jose Alvarez, Hancel Rincon and Gerardo Salas.

The Memphis Redbirds (21-27) are 8.5 games out of first place in the International League West.

Springfield 8, Corpus Christi 7 (11 innings)
Playing as the Cashew Chickens, the Springfield Cardinals defeated the Hooks in an 11 inning walk off victory on Friday. Starter Tink Hence pitched 4 2/3 innings, gave up one unearned run on four hits, struck out five and walked three.

Nick Trogrlic-Iverson surrendered three runs in 1 1/3 innings of relief. Ryan Shreve relinquished three runs in two innings pitched. Matt Svanson hurled two scoreless innings. Logan Sawyer tossed a scoreless 11th to receive the win.
The Cardinals took the early 1-0 lead in the first inning. Noah Mendlinger walked. Mike Antico singled. Thomas Saggese walked. Chandler Redmond was hit by a pitch and Mendlinger was forced in.
Springfield increased the lead to 2-0 in the third on a solo home run by Saggese. In the fifth, Corpus Christi scored one run to cut the lead to 2-1.
The Hooks added three runs in the sixth to take the lead, 4-2. They scored two more in the seventh and one in the eighth to make it 7-2.
The Cardinals roared back with five runs in the home half of the eighth to tie the game 7-7. Saggese hit a three-run home run. Redmond and Pedro Pages singled. Jacob Buchberger pinch ran for Pages. Redmond and Buchberger later scored on a single by Jose Alvarez.

The game went into extra innings. After neither team scored in the 10th, and Corpus Christi was shut down in the top of the 11th, the Cardinals scored in the bottom of the inning to win in an 8-7 walk off. With Arquimedes Gamboa on second base, Victor Scott advanced him to third on a sac bunt and Gamboa came home on a wild pitch.
Saggese was 2-for-3 with four RBI and two runs scored. Alvarez was 3-for-5 with two RBI. Redmond was 2-for-2 with an RBI. Scott II and Antico were each 2-for-5. Pages was 2-for-4.
On the base paths, Scott II stole his 30th base for Springfield and 80th overall in 2023. In the field, Hence and Saggese each made a throwing error. Scott II had an outfield assist at home plate.
In the Texas League North, the Springfield Cardinals (24-25) are in third place, three games out of first.
Saturday’s game: vs. Corpus Christi, Tekoah Roby RHP (Cardinals debut, 2-3, 5.05) vs. RHP Rhett Kouba (7-5, 3.27) 6:35 CT.
The Peoria Chiefs were thrashed by the Whitecaps in a 9-1 home loss on Friday. Starter Trent Baker pitched four innings, gave up five runs, four earned, on nine hits, struck out four and walked two. Baker took the loss.
Jack Ralston relieved Baker and threw two scoreless innings. Matt Hickey surrendered three runs in 2/3 of an inning. Edgar Manzo relinquished one run in the final 2 1/3 innings.
West Michigan took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. The Whitecaps added two runs in the third and two in the fourth to lead 5-0.
Peoria scored their only run in the sixth. Alex ladisernia doubled and was driven in by a double from Ramon Mendoza.
West Michigan increased their lead to 8-1 in the seventh and then 9-1 in the ninth.
The Chiefs scored one run on nine hits. ladisernia was 3-for-4. Jeremy Rivas was 2-for-4.
On the base paths, ladisernia was caught stealing. In the field, Rivas made a fielding error.
The Peoria Chiefs (29-23) are in second place in the Midwest League West, four games back of first.

Palm Beach 3 at Tampa 0 (seven innings, Game 1)
The Palm Beach Cardinals blanked the Tarpons in the opener of a twin bill on Friday. Starter Hancel Rincon pitched six scoreless innings, allowed three hits and struck out eight to earn his ninth win of the season.
Tanner Jacobson relieved Rincon and tossed a scoreless seventh.
The game was scoreless until the sixth inning, when the Beach Birds put up two runs on a home run by Kade Kretzschmar to lead 2-0.
Palm Beach added one run in the seventh. Won-Bin Cho singled and scored on a double by Zach Levenson.
Levenson was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Cho was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. William Sullivan was 2-for-4.
On the base paths, Cho stole his 28th base of the season. In the field, Tre Richardson made a fielding error.
Palm Beach 2 at Tampa 1 (seven innings, Game 2)
The Cardinals were the victors in the second game of the twin bill on Friday. In his Palm Beach debut, starter Gerardo Salas pitched 5 2/3 innings, gave up one run on three hits, struck out seven and walked one.
Tyler Bradt threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings of relief to earn the win.
The Tarpons scored first with one run in the second inning. The Beach Birds tied the game in the sixth. Sammy Hernandez drew a walk and later came home on a wild pitch.
Palm Beach took a 2-1 lead in the seventh. Joshua Baez hit a ground-rule double and scored on a single by Brayden Jobert.
The Cardinals scored two runs on four hits. No Cardinal had multiple hits. Baez’ double was the only extra base hit.
In the field, Baez had an outfield assist at home plate.
The Palm Beach Cardinals (24-27) are in second place in the Florida State League East, just 1/2 game back.
