The St. Louis Cardinals system went 2-2 on Thursday plus two suspensions due to rain. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, no. 1 prospect Jordan Walker, had game-tying and go-ahead home runs. Other standouts include Jacob Buchberger and Austin Love.
Results from games played Thursday, August 18th.
The Memphis Redbirds (58-55) were defeated by the Gwinnett Stripers (ATL, 56-58) on Thursday at Coolray Field.
Starter Matthew Liberatore took his sixth loss for Memphis after pitching only 2 2/3 innings. The left-hander gave up three runs on four hits, three walks and one strikeout. Kodi Whitley recorded a scoreless 1 1/3 innings.
The only Redbirds run came in the second inning. After Luken Baker and Pedro Pages both singled, Clint Coulter scored Baker via sacrifice fly.
Zach McAllister pitched three innings and was charged with two unearned runs on three hits and five strikeouts. Junior Fernández tossed a scoreless eighth inning with two strikeouts.
Memphis did not have any hits after the second inning. The lineup went 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position and grounded into two double plays.
Ben DeLuzio was caught stealing and picked off.
Friday’s game: at Gwinnett, RHP Thomas Parsons (8-3, 4.74) vs. RHP Ian Anderson (0-0, 0.00) 6:05 CT
The Springfield Cardinals (22-20) walked off the Arkansas Travelers (SEA, 19-23) at Hammons Field on Thursday.
Starter Michael McGreevy surrendered two runs on seven hits and two walks in five innings. The right-hander fanned five batters. Michael Brettell yielded a run in two innings.
In the third, Chase Pinder doubled to score Matt Koperniak and take a 1-0 lead. Jordan Walker hit a home run in the sixth inning, a solo shot. Baseball America’s no. 6 prospect nationally blasted a two-run homer in the seventh, his 15th of the season.

John Beller gave up a run in only 1/3 of an inning. Dalton Roach earned his fourth win of the year after a scoreless 1 2/3 innings.
After the Travelers tied the game in the eighth, the Cardinals won the game in the bottom of the ninth. As a pinch hitter for Jonah Davis, Mike Antico doubled and advanced to third after Masyn Winn put down a bunt. With Koperniak up, Antico came across on a wild pitch to win the game.
Walker had two home runs and three RBI. Pinder had two doubles. The lineup had eight hits, walked twice and struck out 14 times.
Winn and Pinder both took a bag.

The Peoria Chiefs (20-25) blanked the Quad Cities River Bandits (KC, 17-28) on Thursday night at Dozer Park.
Austin Love recorded five scoreless innings on two hits and four walks. The right-hander fanned eight batters and earned his seventh win of the season.
In the third, Jacob Buchberger hit a solo home run to take a 1-0 lead. Mack Chambers doubled to score Tyler Reichenborn in the fourth. Buchberger hit another homer, a three-run shot, to make the score 5-0 in the fourth inning.

The Chiefs pen protected the shutout. Nathanael Heredia tossed a hitless two innings and surrendered only one walk. Chris Gerard yielded no runs and struck out three in the final two innings.
Buchberger had two home runs and four RBI. Tyler Reichenborn had three hits and one run. The pitching held the River Bandits to only three hits.
Osvaldo Tovalin stole the first bag in his professional career.
Friday’s game: vs. Quad Cities, RHP Dionys Rodriguez (3-11, 4.59) vs. LHP Rylan Kaufman (1-6, 5.68) 6:35 CT
Palm Beach 1, Fort Myers 2 (Suspended in 3rd inning)
The Palm Beach Cardinals (24-20) and Fort Myers Might Mussels (MIN, 18-24) contest was suspended in the third inning due to rain. The rest of the game will be played on Friday, August 19th.
Starter Yonael Dominguez surrendered two runs on five hits in two innings. Thomas Francisco hit a solo homer in the bottom of the second, his fifth for the Beach Birds.

FCL Cardinals 1, FCL Astros Blue 2 (8 innings)
The Florida Complex League Cardinals (23-27) fell to the Astros Blue (15-34) in eight innings at Roger Dean Stadium.
Wilmer Ortega gave up a run in 5 2/3 innings on four hits, one walk and four strikeouts.
The only Cardinal run came in the fourth inning. After Ryan Holgate and Brandon Hernandez walked, Samil De La Rosa doubled to score Holgate.
Enrique Saldana surrendered an unearned run in 1 2/3 innings. The 23-year-old took his third loss of the season. Edwin Nunez recorded a scoreless 2/3 of an inning.
Won-Bin Cho, Jhon Torres and De La Rosa had the only Cardinals hits. Holgate walked twice. The lineup went 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position.
Tre Fletcher took his third base of the year. Torres had two outfield assists.
The defense turned four double plays in the eight-inning contest.

DSL Cardinals 1, DSL Mariners 1 (Suspended in 5th inning)
The Dominican Summer League Cardinals (31-24) and Mariners (31-24) contest was suspended in the fifth inning due to rain.
Starter Alexander Beltre tossed all five innings and surrendered only one run. The left-hander struck out six batters.
After the Mariners scored a run in the fifth, Carlos Carmona hit a solo home run. The left fielder has three homers this year.
Elias Reynoso, Miguel Vargas and Carmona had the only Cardinal hits.
Reynoso was caught stealing and Arfeni Batista committed an error.
