The St. Louis Cardinals system went 1-6 on Thursday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Alec Burleson, had three hits, a walk, a stolen base, an RBI and four runs scored for Memphis. Other standouts include Connor Thomas, Moisés Gómez and Zane Mills.

Memphis 7, Indianapolis 8 (Game 1, 7 innings)
The Memphis Redbirds (56-50) were edged by the Indianapolis Indians (PIT, 52-53) in Game 1 of a doubleheader on Thursday. This game was a makeup from Wednesday’s rainout.
Jack Flaherty tossed an inning in a rehab start and surrendered four runs, three earned, on four hits and two strikeouts. Grant Black went two innings with one run given up.
After the Indians scored three runs in the first inning, Moisés Gómez tripled to score Juan Yepez in the home half. Indianapolis added five more runs in the next three innings.
Zack Thompson was charged with three runs in only 1/3 of an inning. Kyle Ryan recorded a scoreless 1 2/3 innings and Ryan Loutos struck out three in two scoreless innings.
In the fifth, Scott Hurst singled with the bases loaded to plate Evan Mendoza. Yepez grounded into a double play and Cory Spangenberg came across to make the score 8-3.
The Redbirds tried to mount a comeback in the seventh inning. Hurst recorded another RBI single and Iván Herrera walked with the bases loaded. Austin Allen singled to score two runs and make the score 8-7. With the tying run on third and two out, Mendoza lined out to end the game.
Kramer Robertson, Hurst, Gómez, Allen and Spangenberg all had two hits. The lineup had 13 hits but only seven runners came across. The pitching yielded 14 hits and walked five.
St. Louis’ Yepez played first base and went 1-for-4 with a run scored in his continuing rehab assignment.
Herrera committed two errors, both catcher interference. Capel recorded an outfield assist.
Memphis 7, Indianapolis 0 (Game 2, 7 innings)
The Memphis Redbirds (57-50) blanked the Indianapolis Indians (PIT, 52-54) at AutoZone Park in Game 2 of the doubleheader.
The Redbirds scored three of their seven runs in the first three innings. In the first, Luken Baker singled to score two runs. Clint Coulter recorded an RBI double in the third inning.
Starter Connor Thomas went all seven innings and surrendered no runs, four hits and one walk. The left-hander fanned nine and earned his sixth win of the year.
Coulter was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the fifth. After this, Delvin Pérez hit a comebacker to the pitcher and Baker came across. In the sixth, Gómez and Alec Burleson blasted back-to-back solo home runs. Gómez has 30 home runs between Springfield and Memphis and Burleson has 20.
Burleson, TCN’s no. 8 prospect, went 3-for-3 with a walk, an RBI and four runs scored. Gómez had two hits, two runs scored and an RBI. The lineup had 10 hits and five walks.
Burleson took his fourth base of the year.
Friday’s game: vs. Indianapolis, TBA vs. TBA 7:05 CT
The Springfield Cardinals (19-17) lost to the Amarillo Sod Poodles (ARI, 17-19) at Hodgetown. After a historic 21-run explosion on Wednesday, the Cards’ lineup was held to only three hits on Thursday.
Edgar Escobar threw six innings and was charged with five runs, four earned, on eight hits and nine strikeouts. The right-hander surrendered three home runs and took his eighth loss of the season.
Justin Toerner recorded the only two runs for the Cardinals. In the fifth, the center fielder doubled to score Nick Raposo and Chandler Redmond.
John Beller recorded a scoreless seventh inning. Michael YaSenka yielded a run in the eighth inning on one hit and a walk.
Toerner had two hits and Redmond had one and no other Cardinal had a hit in the contest. The lineup went 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position and struck out 12 times.
Masyn Winn drew two walks and stole two bags, his 16th and 17th for Springfield. TCN’s no. 2 prospect has 32 steals between High-A and Double-A.
Toerner recorded an outfield assist after he threw out a runner at home.
Friday’s game: at Amarillo, RHP Michael McGreevy (5-5, 4.83) vs. RHP Ross Carver (0-2, 17.05) 7:05 CT
The Peoria Chiefs (18-21) were blanked by the Great Lakes Loons (LAD, 22-17) on Thursday at Dow Diamond. The Chiefs only had three hits in the contest.
Zane Mills gave up only one run in six innings on seven hits. The right-hander struck out five and took his sixth loss for Peoria. Leonardo Taveras surrendered a run in two innings on two hits, two walks and three strikeouts.
The only Chiefs hits came from Ramon Mendoza, Patrick Romeri and Noah Mendlinger. The lineup walked twice, struck out 12 times and went 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position.
Jacob Buchberger stole two bags in the contest. The defense turned two double plays.
Friday’s game: at Great Lakes, RHP Austin Love (6-10, 5.92) vs. RHP River Ryan (0-0, 2.25) 6:05 CT
The Palm Beach Cardinals (23-16) fell to the Bradenton Marauders (PIT, 25-14) on Thursday at LECOM Park.
Starter Alfredo Ruiz tossed four innings and surrendered four runs on four hits and two walks. The left-hander took the first loss of his professional career.
After the Marauders scored three runs in the first two innings, Brody Moore recorded an RBI single in the third. Bradenton responded with a run in the home half. 2022 draftee Jimmy Crooks III hit a solo home run in the fourth, the first of his professional career.

Hancel Rincon yielded two runs in the last four innings of the contest. The right-hander gave up four hits, one walk and struck out three.
In the seventh, Elijah Cabell grounded out and scored Darlin Moquete. Cabell doubled in the ninth to plate Alex ladisernia and make the score 6-4. With the tying run at the plate and two out, Nathan Church struck out.
Church, Crooks III and Cabell all had two hits. The lineup had nine hits and two walks but only four runs. The Beach Birds went 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position.
Friday’s game: at Bradenton, RHP Jose Davila (0-0, 0.00) vs. TBA 5:30 CT
FCL Cardinals 10, FCL Marlins 12
The Florida Complex League Cardinals (19-25) lost to the Marlins (25-20) in a high-scoring Thursday contest at Roger Dean Stadium.
Starter Wilmer Ortega tossed three innings and surrendered two runs on five hits, two walks and five strikeouts. Yordy Richard gave up eight runs, seven earned, in only 2/3 of an inning. The 19-year-old took his first loss of the season.
After the Marlins scored two runs in the first two innings, the Cardinals put up five in the third. Edgardo Rodriguez doubled, Ryan Holgate recorded an RBI double and Fernando Diaz blasted a two-run shot, his second of the season. The Marlins responded with eight runs in the fourth.
Brayan Ramirez was charged with two runs in 1 2/3 innings on two hits, two walks and two strikeouts. Omar Sanchez had a scoreless 2 1/3 innings with three strikeouts. Americo Lugo pitched a scoreless 1 1/3 innings with two strikeouts.
The Cardinals tried to overcome a seven-run deficit in the last three innings. Rodriguez drove in a run via groundout in the seventh. Lizandro Espinoza cleared the loaded bases with a triple in the eighth. Adanson Cruz doubled to score a run and make the score 12-10.
The lineup had 10 runs on 14 hits and three walks. In his rehab assignment, Holgate had three hits, a walk, one RBI and a run scored. Won-Bin Cho, Joshua Baez and Diaz each had two hits. The Cardinals went 6-for-18 with runners in scoring position.
Cho and Baez both stole a bag. They have five each this season.
Friday’s game: vs. FCL Mets, TBA vs. TBA 11:00 CT
DSL Cardinals 8 at DSL Giants Orange 9
The Dominican Summer League Cardinals (28-22) were edged by the Giants Orange (21-27) on Thursday afternoon.
Starter Alexander Beltre tossed five innings and gave up two runs on three hits, one walk and four strikeouts. The left-hander has a 2.01 ERA in 40 1/3 innings this season. Jovi Galvez took his fifth loss of the season after he surrendered four runs, two earned, in 2/3 of an inning.
The Cardinals scored their first run in the third inning after Jose Suarez singled to score Yancel Guerrero. Guerrero plated a run in the fourth. The Giants responded with two runs in the home half.
Esteban Contreras yielded three runs in one inning. Oliver Lopez pitched a scoreless 1 1/3 innings with only one walk given up.
In the seventh, Arfeni Batista tripled to score two runs but the Giants responded with a three-run homer in the bottom half. Miguel Vargas scored two runs after he tripled in the eighth and came across on a wild pitch. Jonathan Mejia recorded an RBI single in the ninth to make the score 9-8.
The lineup had eight hits, 10 walks and went 5-for-21 with runners in scoring position. Mejia had the only multi-hit game with two. Every starter was on base at least once in the contest.
Yaisel Ramos and Elias Reynoso each took one base.
