Surprise Saguaros 3 at Scottsdale Scorpions 1

The Surprise Saguaros finally got in the win column again on Friday as they defeated the Scottsdale Scorpions, 3-1, to break their five-game losing skid.
Andy Young played second base and hit cleanup for Surprise. Young went 1-for-4 with a single and a strikeout. The Cardinals second sacker singled to left field in the first inning. Young popped out to lead off the fourth, then struck out swinging in the sixth. In his final at bat in the seventh, a wild pitch while he was at the plate brought a run home, but Young flied out to right field for the final out of the inning.
Four Surprise pitchers combined on a two-hitter, with starter Scott Blewett picking up the win after allowing just one hit with no walks and six strikeouts over five innings. The Royals prospect is already the reigning AFL Pitcher of the Week. The Saguaros’ stars led the offense, as Vladimir Guerrero Jr. had two hits, a stolen base and an RBI, Cavan Biggio homered and Julio Pablo Martinez doubled and scored.
No Cardinals other than Young saw action Friday. The Saguaros are 6-9 in the AFL West, three games back of first place Peoria.
Saturday’s game: vs. Scottsdale, Evan Kruczynski (1-1, 2.53) 2:35 CT.
