Cardinals Arizona Fall League Notebook – October 19, 2022

The Salt River Rafters defeated the Scottsdale Scorpions on Tuesday. Masyn Winn singled, homered and reached base four times. Jordan Walker doubled. Kyle Leahy pitched two scoreless relief innings and Tink Hence finished with another.

Results from the game played Friday, October 18.

Salt River Rafters 9, Scottsdale Scorpions 1

Masyn Winn started at shortstop for the Rafters and hit second. In his first plate appearance in the first inning, Winn hit an infield single to third base. He stole second base but was left stranded.

In the third inning, Winn thumped a solo home run to left field to give the Rafters the lead. It was his first home run of the Fall League.

Winn grounded out to the shortstop in the fifth inning. In the seventh, Winn reached on a throwing error that produced a run.

Masyn Winn

Winn drew a walk in the eighth inning, his fifth plate appearance and fourth time on base.

Jordan Walker hit cleanup and played center field. He struck out swinging in the first inning. In the fourth inning, Walker lined out to the shortstop.

In his third plate appearance Walker smashed a double to left field. He was left stranded on third. In the seventh inning, Walker flied out to right field. In his final plate appearance Walker popped out to the first baseman.

Mike Antico pinch ran in the eighth inning. He scored on a two-run triple. Antico came to the plate one time in the long eighth inning and grounded out to second. He replaced Walker in center field in the ninth.

Kyle Leahy

Kyle Leahy entered to pitch the sixth inning. His first out was a fly out to the wall in left field. Leahy struck out the next batter. He next gave up an infield single. His final hitter ground into a force out. Leahy returned to pitch the seventh. He struck out the first two hitters, then induced a ground out to second to end the inning.

Tink Hence pitched the ninth inning. He struck out the first batter. The next hitter grounded out to the shortstop. The final batter flied out to right field.

Salt River is 5-9 on the season.

Wednesday’s game:  at Glendale, Anders Tolhurst RHP (0-1, 6.75) vs. Chase Solesky RHP (0-1, 9.00) 8:35 CT.
