The Glendale Desert Dogs (5-4) were crushed by the Surprise Saguaros (5-4) by a 7-1 score on Thursday at Goodyear Ballpark.

Three Cardinals participated. Thomas Saggese started at second base, and Leonardo Bernal was the starting catcher for Glendale. In his relief appearance, Brycen Mautz pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings, though he allowed an inherited runner to come home.

Thomas Saggese

Saggese was one of only three Desert Dogs with a hit on Thursday, going 1-for-3 with a walk while batting third.  He flied out in the first, walked in the fourth and stole second, struck out looking in the fifth, and singled in the eighth.

Leonardo Bernal

Bernal went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts while hitting eighth.  He flied out to the left fielder in the third and the fifth and was called out on strikes in the seventh and the ninth.  Bernal committed a throwing error after his pitcher threw a wild pitch.  He caught one runner stealing but allowed two others to steal a base successfully.

Brycen Mautz

Mautz pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings while walking one and striking out two.  He came into the game with one out away in the fifth with runners on second and third.  He allowed a sacrifice fly to the first batter and struck out the next batter for the third out.  In the sixth, Mautz struck out the first batter, forced the second to ground out, walked the third, and forced the final hitter to ground out.
