Cardinals Arizona Fall League Notebook – October 18, 2022

The Salt River Rafters topped the Surprise Saguaros on Monday night. Connor Thomas surrendered a run and struck out 10 in four innings. Jordan Walker, Pedro Pages, Masyn Winn, Mike Antico and Ryan Loutos also played.

Powered by a three-run first inning, the Salt River Rafters (4-9) edged the Surprise Saguaros (7-5) at Surprise Stadium Monday evening. Six Cardinals appeared in the contest.

Starter Connor Thomas yielded a run in four innings on three hits and one walk. TCN’s no. 29 prospect earned his first AFL win after securing 10 of his 12 outs via the strikeout. After a difficult regular season for Memphis, Thomas has a 1.42 ERA and 17 strikeouts in 12 2/3 innings in the AFL.

The Rafters scored all three runs in the first inning. Jordan Walker drove in the first run via sacrifice fly. He went 1-for-4 with a single but left four runners on base.

Pedro Pages started behind the plate and recorded a single in the ninth inning. He went 1-for-4 with a strikeout, groundout and pop out.

In the ninth spot and at second base was TCN’s no. 2 prospect, Masyn Winn. He had two singles and a walk. The 20-year-old is hitting .333 in the AFL.

Mike Antico pinch ran for the designated hitter in the eighth inning but did not come across.

Ryan Loutos followed Thomas in relief and pitched two scoreless innings. Improving his AFL ERA to 3.60, TCN’s no. 47 prospect fanned one and was charged with two hits and a walk.

The Rafters recorded seven hits and six walks in the contest. Rockies first baseman Grant Lavigne recorded two of the three RBI. Surprise had the tying run on second base in the ninth but failed to bring him across.

Salt River has won four of their last five games.
