The Glendale Desert Dogs improved to 2-1 in the AFL as four Cardinals prospects contributed to Thursday’s win. Designated hitter Thomas Saggese singled, doubled, walked, drove in a run and scored twice.

Glendale Desert Dogs 13, Peoria Javelinas 6
The Glendale Desert Dogs (2-1) crushed the Peoria Javelinas 13-6 on Thursday evening under 99 degree heat at Goodyear Ballpark.
Four St. Louis Cardinals participated in the win. Batting seventh, Leonardo Bernal started at catcher, number two batter Thomas Saggese was the designated hitter, Brycen Mautz came in to pitch the eighth, and Matt Svanson closed the game in the ninth.
In his first AFL start, Bernal went 0-for-5 including two strikeouts. He struck out to lead off the second and grounded out to end the seven-run second inning. He also grounded out in the fourth and eighth before striking out in the sixth.
Saggese had a 2-for-4 evening with a walk. It began with an RBI double in the first after which he later scored on another RBI double. He walked in the second and later came home on an RBI single, and he singled in the seventh. Saggese grounded out in the fourth and struck out in the fifth.
Mautz threw an inning, allowing one run on two hits while walking one and striking out one. In the 19-run game, Svanson was the only one of five Desert Dog pitchers to throw a scoreless inning, yielding a hit and a walk while striking out two.
