Cardinals Arizona Fall League Notebook – November 4, 2022

The Salt River Rafters were walked off by the Mesa Solar Sox on Thursday night. Mike Antico blasted his third AFL home run, walked twice and stole a base. Jordan Walker (RBI) and Masyn Winn (steal) had two hits apiece and Ryan Loutos pitched a perfect inning with three strikeouts.

Salt River 3 at Mesa 4 (10 innings)

The Salt River Rafters (11-15) were defeated by the Mesa Solar Sox (12-12) in extra innings at Sloan Park. Five of the eight AFL Cardinals appeared.

Leadoff man Masyn Winn started at shortstop and singled in the fifth and seventh innings. TCN’s no. 2 prospect stole his eighth bag of the year and came across to score. He is hitting .327 in the AFL.

In right field was TCN’s no. 1 prospect, Jordan Walker. The number three batter doubled in the first inning and added an RBI single in the fifth. Walker has a .961 OPS and 15 RBI in the desert. He also made a great catch at the wall in right-center in the first inning.

Mike Antico recorded the start in center field and went 1-for-2 with two walks. The number seven hitter walked in the second and fourth innings and blasted a solo shot in the sixth to tie the game 3-3. The 24-year-old stole his seventh base for the Rafters, drawing a bad throw at second that enabled him to take third.

In the third inning, Kyle Leahy took over in relief. The 25-year-old was charged with a run on a hit and two walks in two innings. Leahy touched 94-95 mph with the fastball and garnered one strikeout on a big-breaking 80 mph curveball. He fanned four batters but has a 12.41 ERA in the AFL.

Ryan Loutos tossed the seventh inning and went 1-2-3 with three strikeouts. TCN’s no. 46 prospect lowered his ERA to 2.77 and has 12 Ks in 13 AFL innings.

The Solar Sox won the game after a wild pitch from Toronto’s Troy Watson. Rafters pitching fanned 14 batters but surrendered four hits and seven walks. The lineup went 1-for-14 with runners in scoring position and struck out 11 times.
