Cardinals Arizona Fall League Notebook – November 11, 2022

In their final Arizona Fall League game, the Salt River Rafters fell to the Glendale Desert Dogs on Thursday. Masyn Winn singled, doubled and drove in a run and Jordan Walker singled. Mike Antico struck out twice and Tink Hence surrendered a run.

The Salt River Rafters (12-18) were defeated by the Glendale Desert Dogs (15-13) in seven innings at Camelback Ranch. Four of the eight AFL Cardinals appeared in the Rafters’ final game of 2022.

Masyn Winn hit leadoff for the Rafters and went 2-for-4. The shortstop doubled in the third inning to bring a run across. TCN’s no. 2 prospect singled in the seventh. He ends the AFL with a .294 average and nine RBI.

In center field and the two spot was Mike Antico. The 24-year-old went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts and a hit by pitch. He attempted to steal second in the fifth but was caught. TCN’s no. 33 prospect was 8-for-10 in stolen base attempts in the desert.

Jordan Walker hit third for Salt River and singled in the fifth inning. The right fielder also grounded out, flied out and popped out. Walker finished his AFL campaign with a .286/.367/.558/.925 slash line.

TCN’s no. 7 prospect, Tink Hence, relieved in the sixth inning with two men on and no outs. The right-hander was charged with a run on one hit and a hit by pitch. Hence finished the 2022 AFL with a 2.16 ERA due to two earned runs in 8 1/3 innings.

The Rafters had their best chance of the afternoon in the fifth inning with the bases loaded and two out but Detroit’s Parker Meadows flied out. The Rafters left eight runners on base and went 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position.

With the loss, Salt River’s season is over as the top three teams qualify for the AFL playoffs. The Rafters finished in last place and six wins below .500 after a tough opening stretch of the season. They fell 7.5 games behind the first place Surprise Saguaros.
