The St. Louis Cardinals have promoted Florida State League All-Star pitcher Alex Fagalde to Double-A Springfield. In the corresponding move, reliever Mitchell Osnowitz returned to high-A Palm Beach.

Fagalde, The Cardinal Nation’s 33rd ranked prospect, was a 2019 FSL All-Star selection, but did not pitch in Saturday night’s mid-season matchup at Roger Dean Stadium. The 25-year old was on hand to be be recognized by the home crowd before heading north, reports TCN’s Paul Ivice.
You can read much more about Fagalde’s standout 2019 in the May Pitcher of the Month article linked to above. Since then, he has 10 scoreless June innings on seven hits, two walks and seven strikeouts.
Overall at Palm Beach, St. Louis’ 30th-rounder in 2017 from Cal-Riverside crafted a 1.99 ERA in 13 starts to go with six wins, three losses and four no-decisions. Fagalde struck out 62 against just 16 walks in 72 1/3 FSL innings. Hitters managed just a .188 average against him.
As noted above, the Double-A Cardinals have a rotation opening due to Williams Perez having been placed on the injured list. Fagalde has not pitched since the 11th, so if he goes on Monday, it will be with an extra day of rest.
Osnowitz, 27, threw a scoreless frame in his Springfield debut on Friday evening. He had been called up that afternoon. With Palm Beach, the right-hander has a 3.55 ERA in 11 appearances. This is his first healthy stretch since signing with the Cardinals in February 2018 as a minor league free agent.
