No Gray or Freeland in this series. That’s fortunate. A couple of these guys have stymied us over the last few years, so hopefully there’s a measure of revenge coming.

Gray has been really impressive after coming back from the minors too. Good to see we will miss him.

Both teams are hot. The Rockies have won 10 of 12, and are just one game back in the NL West.

Rockies win today 4-3 over the Padres on a walkoff two run homer in the last of the 9th by Desmond. This is going to be tough to win this series. At this point I might be satisfied with one win.

I hope I get back from the 9-Ball pool tournament in Evansville on Saturday to watch this one. But if I don’t, that’s good news because that means I am still alive in the tournament.

We face the Rockies’ 3-4-5 starters and have our #1 going so I would be disappointed to only win one game.

Both teams are extremely hot. The Rockies are 10-2 in their last 12 games with a +12 run differential. They are 4-1 in one run games. The Cards, for a fair comparison, are also 10-2 in their last 12 games with a +29 run differential. They are 1-2 in one run games.

The Rockies have been good and lucky; the Cardinals have been good and arguably neutral on the luck. I’m hoping to take 2 of 3 here. Gant and Gomber being fly ball pitchers may not help.

With the way the club has been going, you just have to be thinking sweep. That doesn’t mean it’s going to happen, but that’s the only meaningful mentality to take on. This revitalized Cardinal team is a better one than this Rockies squad…….. so may the best men win!

Good luck in your 9-ball pool tournament, Rat!!! Any one would be a fool to bet against you. Knowing Rat, I bet to get psyched, he watched the original movie ‘The Hustler a few times. For those of you have not seen this film, put it on your must-see list. Paul Newman was fantastic as usual, but Jackie Gleason was absolutely splendid!! And speaking of “9”, I’m calling this one 9-5 Birds with O’Neill ramrodding one a mile in the Mile High City.

Won’t be at the ball park until the Sunday afternoon tilt, which hopefully is at least the rubber game, if not a game where St. Louis goes for their second consecutive series sweep. I bring no predictions though. Two clubs who were disappointing in the first half, but have come on after the break. A couple of big arms in the Rox ‘pen are the “O” pair, Ottavino and Oh. Many of us still do not understand why the Cards gave up on Ottavino. I thought of him as a starter, and pictured a rotation with two “Adam’s” in it for several years. But he has blossomed as a bullpen guy out here.

Pugs is right on about “The Hustler”. Great movie. Jackie Gleason is tremendous in his part as Minnesota Fats.

Man, they don’t make ’em like that anymore. What a time it was when Gleason and all those celebrities, including various Yankee players from time to time, would hang out at Toots Shor’s in New York. Gleason and Sinatra must have run up quite the bar tab back then.

O’Neill does indeed go deep, to make it 1-0 good guys.

Mikey likey!!! Mikolas tatoos a center field bomb with Wong aboard and the Cards seize a 4-0 2nd inning advantage…..426 feet the tale of the tape on the Mikolas blast.

Wish I were going to the ol’ ballpark with you on sunday, Bike Mike. I should have planned my Colorado retreat one week later.

The hits are even-steven at 3 as the Rockies bat here in the bottom of the 2nd…..oops, make that 4 hits for Colorado as Jose “lost” a routine fly to right in the lights and now the Rocks are in business with 2 on and 1 out. Mikolas squirms out of the pickle unscathed and we move along to the 3rd.

Does anyone here think that maybe we might trade some of these younger guys after the season, not many of them however with the younger guys playing so much and showing what they can do…not advocating for a trade but…they’re getting a chance to show what they can do in the majors…

I don’t think we deal any of these heralded youngsters, Logan. If anything, I think a few of these veteran players might have themselves new homes in ’19. This young Cardinal team promises to get even younger.

Dahl with a leadoff single to right in the Colorado 3rd and the Rockies are having no problems with getting decent wood on the ball vs Mikolas thus far…but when it’s time to buckle down, Mikolas has been rising to the occasion. Cargo with a 1 out grounder up the middle and out in to center for yet another Rockies hit…Dahl motors around to 3rd. Story

Yeah Pugs, that would have been terrific – going together to a Redbird game. Maybe at some point we can put a TCN convention together, and take in a game in Busch with Rats, CC, Forsch, 2016 and all the rest joining in the fun. We may be able to get a suite if everyone pitches in!

Cards hang on to the 4-0 lead. I am going to take a dusk bike ride, and listen to the game while riding.

Story flies out to Jose in short right….and here comes Dahl racing for paydirt!..now he stops halfway home and retreats towards 3rd…throw goes to 3rd and Gyorko’s throw home will nail him to retire the side!

Hence the name BicycleMike. Watch out for those Colorado rattlers…mountain lions…bears….and muggers that can nab a guy riding on his bike at night, Mike!
