To Yankees for two pitchers. I believe one is Gallegos who has pitched for the Yankees a little the last two years. Announced by Steve Selby.

Seems curious to trade Voit if they plan to move Jose Martinez. While Shreve is a left-hander, his stats don’t look particularly impressive.

They still have Wisdom and Ravelo.

    LOL – I guess I can’t argue with that

Not sure what to think of this deal. Both pitchers are high strikeout and homer run rate. I would guess Gomber would be sent down? Maybe it’s time to cut Bowman, or will they wait until after the season for that.

Before this trade, Mo said more was coming. So is there still more coming? Gotta be because this isn’t what comes to mind when talking about “more”. Shreve had been awful, but began to improve in July. Speaking of splits, his ERA against lefties is 6.75 this year and 2.92 against RHBs. Maybe that’s bad luck because the peripherals don’t look that lopsided. He’s also thrown about twice as many innings against RHBs, though. As stated above, he’s currently better than Lyons.

Bullpen difficulties or not, if I were a pitcher, St. Louis would be the last team I would want to be traded to. Talk about competition!

Good for Luke. He may end up with a ring this year when all is said and done.

Luke did a good job coming off the bench last season and this season.Wish him well in NY.Shreve seems like a isable Lefty arm and Gallegos another young Righty arm with some LMLB experience.Good job by FO/MO in trading a limited asset for 2 guys who help the bullpen.I still dont think Cards are done making changes.I figure that is 39 on 40-man roster.I dont understand why Sherriff is still not on 60-DL (Brian said he would have to be promoted and then put on DL if my memory is correct). So do it.I wonder if Layne could possibly get a shot or maybe Patrick Wisdom or Rangel Ravelo or Adolis Garcia for the last roster spot on 40-man?

No need to put Sheriff on the 60 day DL. First, they can’t do it unless the 40 man roster is full (which it is not). Second, when the time comes, they can simply remove Sheriff from the 40 man roster. He undoubtedly will pass through waivers. No one is (including the Cards) is going to want to clog up their off season 40 man roster with an injured, marginal lefty reliever. And this move will most likely happen at the start of Sept when major league rosters expand and a few of those guys you mention will get promoted. Of course Memphis’ season probably wont end until mid September due to them being playoff bound again.

Question on the international cap space involved. Does money actually change hands or is the two teams fixed “budget” simple adjusted on the pool of money they can spend.

See a note on Twitter that $1M involved.

I guess I am saying Bowmqn could be released. With the 3 recent additions his usefulness versus his 40 man roster spot, that spot could go to Helsley or Layne, etc.

Not so fast, CC. An injured player cannot be outrighted during the season. But they could free up the roster spot this fall ahead of Rule 5 if they choose.

Yankees traded for more international cap space

Yankees just traded for more international cap space and continued pruning their 40 man roster

    Thinking ahead

One thing I like about Cashman is that he thinks ahead.

Teams can only trade international cap space by increments of $250,000.

I could definitely see the Cards being involved in trading for the bonus money when they’re allowed to go big again.

The Cards (and some posters) only saw Luke as an older AAAA player.
Maybe the NYYs see more. Hope he does well. Nice local kid.

I think Voit is the pro-typical AAAA player. Still you always like the local guys to do well, and he fits a DH roster better. Hopefully he does well, and hits one over the monster in post season to give the Yankees a dramatic win in post season, which earns him his 15 minutes of fame.
