Would the Cardinals consider trading Marcell Ozuna? According to a source, the outfielder is not the most popular player in St. Louis’ clubhouse. With one more year of arbitration eligibility left before becoming a free agent, Ozuna — who is having a subpar season in his first year with the Cards — could benefit from a change of scenery and bring back a prospect or two for St. Louis.
This from an article on MLB.com. I don’t think the Cards gave up anything great to get Marcell. I wouldn’t care if they only got one top 100 type player back in return. My only concern about it would be that he might have a huge year next year in his contract year and I wouldn’t mind having a .300-30 HR-110 RBI guy in the lineup. Of course, maybe O’Neill can do that too, for much cheaper.
Also, I dig the 12:30 start times. If the Cards play well and win it sets the tone for a good afternoon, and if they lose it at least gives time to do some other things the rest of the day to go to bed in a better mood.
Isn’t that the truth, 25? Hitting the pillow after a win sure beats hitting the pillow the other way after a loss.
You bet! A Cards win can make a good day excellent or a bad day just a touch more tolerable. That’s the beauty of baseball!
Even on a tough loss day for the Cards, though, there’s generally some good things to enjoy in scanning the box scores of all the minor league games. Another homer (or 2) by O’Neill. A good game by Gorman. A good start by Woodford.
Etc.I am on the trade Ozuna train if we can get a decent prospect/ player back. Not worth his salary this year. Even if he comes back strong the most we get back is a draft pick because I want no part of signing an up and down player long term. Cut our losses and move on. Hopefully someone who would give up something to take a chance on him.
a win today leading into a weekend series against the cubs will be huge. These next 5 games will determine what we do at the trading deadline.

On Ozuna, I am a little surprised he is not all that popular on the club. When you see those shots of the dugout after a guy homers, Ozuna is always one of the first guys to greet him, and often is the guy pulling the helmet off and seems to be leading the celebration.
From that I figured he was one of the team’s fun and popular guys – sort of a latter-day Orlando Cepeda. But it sounds like that is not the case. Probably tough to be a fun-loving guy when you are having a sub-par season.
Will Jack Flash take up the gauntlet thrown down by Poncedeleon and Gomber and complete the rookie trifecta of no-hit bids? Will the offense finally figure out one of the Reds’ horrible starters in this series? We’re an hour and change from finding out!
I have probably missed the answer to this question, but what is the current status of Wacha and will Wainwright ever pitch again?

The math says Wacha, won’t be pitching for the club until mid-August and maybe longer. He was hurt June 20.
Rigthhander Adam Wainwright, who has missed most of the season with elbow problems, might be ready for a rehab assignment in early to mid-August, Mozeliak said.
The season has kind of went off the rails once Wacha went down for such a long spell.
The Cards get a couple of jam shots that fall for hits, then a liner that is caught. Still two on, one out for the best singles hitter in the league.
Could these guys ever hustle? Maybe that could make up for a few of their other deficiencies, which they have plenty. Carp admires his popup and ends up at 1B instead of 2B. Pham got thrown out at 3B the other night because he lollygagged to 1B thinking he hit a HR I guess. When you’re wildly inconsistent in so many areas, effort doesn’t have to be one of them. How many times does a player have to sprint during a 3-hour game, maybe four or five? Bader is a clear exception to this and maybe a couple of others, but it’s like it’s not cool to hustle for most of these guys.
So far, hard hit balls are outs and the soft stuff has gotten guys on base. Dex up with the bases loaded.
Yadi almost picked off 2nd thinking that they had a walk and the Cards get lucky that they didn’t have another TOOTBLAN.
Instead, Dexter hits a dribbler and the bases are stranded loaded.
Yep, Yadi had his head up his you know what. That screw up was trumped by the Reds inability to execute a basic rundown. Carps unwillingness to hustle out of the box costs the Cards a run. They’re are bad at base running, and don’t even care.
The pitcher we’re facing has a 4.31 career ERA in the minors and 4.85 in the big leagues. This team had absolutely better score 4+ runs off him, but the way this offense is going…
