ParticipantA bromo, some advil, a chill pill and a rosary…. Shildt should be good to go today.
July 20, 2018 at 10:59 am #61038Well folks, yesterday was a pitiful display against one of the teams you have to beat. Ironically the much maligned offense gave the club plenty of runs to win, but the pitching and defense was poor.
Bottom line, at least from where stand right now this club is not good enough to hang with the big boys. You can make a case that the Cubs are better at all 8 positions than the Cardinals, and their starters are more consistent than ours. Their bullpen is as well.
Today’s pitching match-up is a real mis-match in their favor. It looks like we may be done after Sunday. Still a long way to go and stranger things have happened, but right now logic sees the glass half empty.
July 20, 2018 at 11:12 am #61040i dont think yesterday was pitiful at all…we had lots of hits…one of our relievers was poor, and CMart got bad defense behind him
I was very encouraged by Pham (except the baserunning snafu) and Yadi, and even Wong late
CMart is pretty mercurial, maybe stop treating him like an Ace and you wont be disappointed in him not being one…it’s not like he is getting overpaid…his stats are pretty good overall
we had a punchers chance going into the 8th and almost the 9th even after Bowmans performance… 16hits wins a lot of games
defense is a n issue no doubt…but i dont see last night as pitiful at all and I dont see the Cubs as dominating that game at all…they capitalize in 1 inning on a defensive mistake and Cmart’s struggle to deal with that (which everyone seems to be attacking as if other pitchers dont do the exact same thing often)…and then capitalize late on Bowman…5 of their runs were in one inning…
Is this team “close” i dont think so…they need more underperformers to figure it out…if Pham comes out of it that helps a lot, we probably just need 2 others as well…DeJong and Wong…Wong and Fowler, Gyorko and Wong…etc.
and in the pen..we need probably an outside help for a stable arm to help bridge or maybe a kid to step up…maybe Greene?Cubs bullpen an starter didnt exactly do great last night…and their best guy is on the DL…
GO CARDS!

stlcard25ParticipantIs Bader still hurt? If so, why didn’t they DL him? It seems like they are giving away a lot to have Fowler in the lineup.
July 20, 2018 at 12:44 pm #61045Bader has to be hurt as pathetic as Fowler has been he is even worse against lefties…
July 20, 2018 at 12:52 pm #61046Seems to me that the Redbirds struggle against Lester most of the time. The Cubs have now won four straight and I expect this one to be in their favor as well. The young St. Louis hurler gets his baptism at Wrigley in this one. Cubs take this titanic struggle 7-1.

July 20, 2018 at 12:54 pm #61047I am not going to predict a score but I think the Cardinals take this one. Just a hunch.
July 20, 2018 at 12:59 pm #61048It seems like they are giving away a lot to have Fowler in the lineup.
This one seems obvious to me. FO declared they have done their job and have invested in the necessary playing talent to win, but need a fresh voice to lead on the field. Then the guidance to the fresh voice was to turn around the failures of previous voice. I can only imagine one emphasis was on the biggest investment considering the recent negative publicity related to all this. I imagine BDW might’ve even slapped Mo on the wrist for his contributions.
July 20, 2018 at 1:27 pm #61051Dang CARP IS ON FIRE!!!!
1-0 Cards after Lester thought he had strike 3.
July 20, 2018 at 1:34 pm #61053Lester probably did have strike 3 before Carp blasted the HR. Nice to have one go our way after seeing the calls Danley was giving Hendricks last night.
July 20, 2018 at 1:38 pm #61054I’d rather have Munoz in RF if Bader is hurt.
July 20, 2018 at 1:47 pm #61055And right on Q Fowler drills one into the corner for a RBI double
July 20, 2018 at 1:49 pm #61056Pham with a single makes it 3-0 good guys
July 20, 2018 at 1:50 pm #61057
stlcard25ParticipantGreat start to the game for the Cards offense. Good to see Fowler and Pham getting it done.
July 20, 2018 at 1:50 pm #61058NJ315
ParticipantSee 3-0 easy nothing to it. Hail the new manager.
July 20, 2018 at 1:50 pm #61059Different style of baseball this inning with 2 nice bunts by Wong and Jack gets runners in scoring position
July 20, 2018 at 1:53 pm #61060Carp hits second HR of the day ant it is 5-0 good guys!!!
now lets hope rain stops
July 20, 2018 at 1:53 pm #61061
stlcard25ParticipantMarp is on fire!! 5-0 Birds!
July 20, 2018 at 1:53 pm #61062Carp with his 2nd HR of the day. Cards jumping all over Lester, up 5-0.
July 20, 2018 at 2:00 pm #61063
stlcard25ParticipantMarp’s last 29 games: .343/.469/.848 with 11 doubles and 14 home runs.
July 20, 2018 at 2:01 pm #61064Lester with 52 pitches in the first 2 innings and the Cubs have used 2 mound visits already.
5-0 Cardinals after an inning and a half.
July 20, 2018 at 2:05 pm #61065
stlcard25ParticipantLester was lucky to get out of it without more damage. I love it when he’s not getting all those extra pitches off the plate and has to, you know, actually pitch to batters.
July 20, 2018 at 2:05 pm #61066Marp since May 15: .330/.424/.679/1.103 in 243 PAs.
