After Monday’s day off
6:45 p.m.
LHP Matthew Liberatore (2-2, 4.40) vs. RHP Mitch Keller (4-2, 3.59)
Cards.TV // KMOX // WIJRMay 17, 2026 at 9:44 pm #307697Too bad Skenes pitched today, as now we won’t be seeing him this week. But they are going to be one feisty bunch. Anytime you go into someone’s yard and sweep them…..4 consecutive games…..that team, in this case the Pirates, are going to be seething with revenge. We’ll lose this series 2 games to 1.
Go Birds!
May 18, 2026 at 4:40 pm #307721FYI here,
It’s Monday and according to the Doppler Radar it has been pouring in the St. Louis area.As I type this – 5:30 cst – it is pouring here in SW Indiana. My field that’s planted in corn this year is flooded. Again.
However, the Reds are in Philadelphia tonight and the skies look clear. Then late tonight the Doyers are in San Diego and those skies look to be clear as well.

May 18, 2026 at 6:18 pm #307722We should feel oh so blessed to have a resident meteorologist in our midst. If you need to get a quick reading on what the barometric pressure is in Dededo, Guam, then Rat is your man.
I dislike these off days, especially when your team is playing so well. After we drop 2 games to these Pirates, I have little doubt that we will get right back on track. I know it’s a bit early, but I wonder what our magic number is to secure a wild card berth? If I had to take a wild guess, I’d say 94.

May 18, 2026 at 7:22 pm #307724I’ve been keeping tabs on the heavy rain in the area all day long and checking a 4 inch drain at the landing of a flight of stairs leading to the basement door. This time of the year the grate cover can easily get covered with pollen pods from the trees during spring downpours. If I don’t make sure to check and keep it cleared water will quickly come over the top of the 6 inch concrete threshold at the base of the door and flow into the basement at a rate similar to Niagra Falls. When that happens all the neighbors can hear a lot of really bad words as I’m emptying out the shop-vac and operating the squeegee broom…
May 18, 2026 at 8:17 pm #307725Taking a gander at the MONDAY night out-of-town scoreboard:
The Reds lose to the Phillies. 5-4 your final at Connie Mack Stadium. A 2-run homer by Stott in the last of the 8th spelled doom for the Reds.
The Cubs trail the Brewers 8-0 in the 5th at Wrigley.
The Brewers lead the Cubs 8-0 in the 5th at Wrigley.
The Doyers and Padres coming up later from Jack Murphy Stadium in San Diego.
May 18, 2026 at 8:31 pm #307727FYI here,
The Cubs are trying to get back into this one. It’s 8-3 Brewers now in the 6th.They couldn’t, could they???
UPDATE
Check that. It’s 9-3 Brewers now heading to the last of the 6th.May 18, 2026 at 8:35 pm #307728Yeah, those Cubbies are still getting trounced at Wrigley by a score of 9-3 now in the 6th. After a brief slide a couple of weeks ago the Brewers have been playing winning baseball. I’m getting ready to watch the Dodgers/Padres game. It’s not raining in SD at the moment so they should be able to sneak this one into the books…
May 18, 2026 at 8:50 pm #307729Lots of action for a Monday night. The Cardinals and Pirates are the only two teams that are idle.
May 18, 2026 at 9:00 pm #307730The Admiral’s taking a turn for the Dodgers tonight. He’s well on his way to carving out a legacy as one of best big game pitchers of all time. He’s 7-1 with an ERA of 2.25 in 10 post-season games at the age of 27. He may be mentioned as being in Gibson/Koufax territory before he’s all through.
May 18, 2026 at 9:20 pm #307731And the Brewers place a 9-3 W into the books as they thrash the Cubbies at Wrigley to hand them their 4th consecutive L. That’s far from an easy task as the Cubs are 18-7 while playing at home.
May 18, 2026 at 9:38 pm #307732Yamamoto’s forkball may be as good or better than Sutter’s. The thing gets to within about 3 ft. from HP and then completely vanishes…It simply disappears. It’s the sort of pitch that’s entirely unfair to whoever’s unfortunate enough to be standing in the box and made to look foolish.
May 19, 2026 at 4:00 am #307733And one last late night score.
The Padres down the Doyers 1-0 at Jack Murphy Stadium. The Doyers had some chances to push a run across but just couldn’t get the job done. They had 1st and 2nd in the 9th with nobody out. Flyout, strikeout, groundout and that was that.
May 19, 2026 at 9:35 am #307741The NLC standings are getting tight.
1. Cubs 29-19
2. Brewers 27-18 (.5)
3. Cards 27-19 (1.0)
4. Pirates 24-23 (4.5)
5. Reds 24-24 (5.0)May 19, 2026 at 2:05 pm #307749
I have no fear of these Pirates now that Marte and McCuchen are goneMay 19, 2026 at 2:56 pm #307750That shutout Sunday was pretty sad. We need to cut this death spiral off at the knees, so get the nerf noodles out of the bat rack and man up.
May 19, 2026 at 3:52 pm #307751I watched Yamamoto allow only 3 hits while working 7 full innings last night. He was the losing pitcher of decision as the Dodgers were shutout by the Padres for a 1-0 final. Freeman, Betts, Ohtani, Hernandez, Muncy and the rest of the Dodger offensive firepower couldn’t push a solitary run across HP to let the Admiral off the hook for the L. Our very own Redbirds are looking a lot like those mighty Dodgers these days…

CF Victor Scott LMay 19, 2026 at 3:56 pm #307753The Dodgers have also been displaced atop the NLW by the Padres. They may be in big trouble if Little Eddie doesn’t hurry up and return from the IL to save the day…
May 19, 2026 at 4:37 pm #307754I was surprised when Worthy noted the Cards were 26-20 through 46 last year, so we’re only a game ahead. I’d forgotten they went 12-1 from May 4-17. Mikolas and Fedde were a combined 5-1 in May with ERAs between 3 and 3.03. I’m trying to remember if I felt as confident about last year’s team at this point in the year as I do about this year’s team….
May 19, 2026 at 4:53 pm #307755Time for the meteorological report.
According to the Doppler Radar there is a big pile of green stuff a little southwest of the downtown metro St. Louis area. Hard to say where it’s headed but there’s a chance of a delay tonight.
Sunny and mild here in SW Indiana, however. Things are still wet from the two deluges we’ve had recently.

May 19, 2026 at 5:01 pm #307756Hopefully not an IL visit.
#STLCards SS Masyn Winn is undergoing an MRI on the left knee pain that knocked him out of Sunday’s game, per Oli Marmol. The team is anxiously awaiting the results.
Winn rested on Monday and still felt pain on Tuesday. He is not in the lineup tonight vs. the #Pirates.

May 19, 2026 at 5:34 pm #307759Hope Winn does not need an IL – stint. He is such a huge key to our defense. He’s a difference maker out there.
We are in the midst of cool damp weather here, but more of a misty, overcast and not downpours. We have gotten some steady rain, but the Rockies are still getting their games in. I am off tonight but work tomorrow’s day game.
Okay, on the din-din front we are looking at a homemade beef-a-roni type meal the Lovely Lady Bike threw together yesterday, along with a big tossed salad. Dessert will be an attempt to finish off the fresh watermelon before it goes bad. Beverage will be the good old boring cool, clear water as the western song goes.
Go Cards!
May 19, 2026 at 5:43 pm #307761Yeah, I can’t count how many times his arm has enabled the completion of the GIDP. Many times as the play unfolded I’d think to myself that there was almost zero chance to get 2 outs and then, bam!…His right arm would go off and he’d get the baserunner at 1B. Dunston’s the only SS that comes to my mind that had the sort of arm possessed by Winn.
