Although I’ve never been near to being an ardent proponent of interleague play, Cardinal fans will have an opportunity this weekend to buy a ticket to see a first rate baseball player in the form of Royals SS Witt Jr. The well establised 26 yr. old AL star has led his league in hits for the past 2 years and currently sits atop the leader board in that same category this season. And the sorts of hits he produces are in the form of lots of doubles, triples and taters that are all augmented by a consistent flow of SB’s. And oh, he’s also a multiple GG’er at the SS position. A genuine 5 tool player who, in my estimation, is the best all around baseball player in either league. If I wasn’t so old and lazy I’d purchase a cheap seat and then work my way down closer to the action to see Bobby Witt Jr. play baseball this weekend.

Nice post, TD! And we just concluded a series vs another “first rate baseball player” in the person of Nicholas Jeffrey Kurtz. I know it’s silly, but yesterday I was mulling over the prospect of dealing Winn, Burly and McGreevy to the A’s for Kurtz. It’s most likely a deal that neither team would execute.

And what’s on the din-din docket one may inquire? I’ll be ordering up some scrumptillyishish catfish fiddlers, hush puppies, coleslaw and a heaping bowl of chocolate ice cream with banana slices and gobs of Jiff peanut butter. Does it truly get any better than that?

    Pugs,
I’ll also be having some catfish fiddlers today out at the Amish restaurant by the lake. Along with mashed potatoes/gravy, noodles, dressing, baked fish too, sweet iced tea, a piece of strawberry pie, and some vanilla soft serve ice cream. I might even bring a cherry pie home with me.

I look for Winn to get off the HR schneid tonight and launch one into the KC bullpen for the big hit of the game. I am calling this one 6-2 St. Lou.

My son had a pork shoulder in the smoker all morning. Now its chunked up in a crock pot with onions and a can of ro-tel diced tomatoes and chillies. It will end up pulled pork for din din.

Hopefully May can work his ERA down some.

Helas, no fiddlers in my neck of the woods. Madame CiF and I kept things super simple for din-din this evening with biscuits and gravy, followed by a dish of fruit salad.

Don’t think I’ve got the stamina to watch tonight’s game in real time. Thank goodness for MLB replay.

    Rah Cardinals!

Rat’s Amish restaurant fiddler feast is one difficult nut to crack as far as beating for Friday’s Game Thread Din-Din of The Day honors. But Bling is aiming to pull it off with his pork shoulder entry…..or should I say “entree”, having roasted for hours on end in the ol’ Cincinnati smoker and then making it’s way into the Kentucky crock pot, accompanied with some Idahoan onions and a healthy dose of Richland Farms ro-tel diced tomatoes and piping hot Chilean chillies. Well played, Blingster…..Julia Child couldn’t have done it better.

I’m calling it 8-3 Birds tonight with Bobby Witt Jr. wearing the proverbial collar and Herrera going bombs away to the upper reaches of the left field rafters.

I expect tonight to be a difficult game. Michael Wacha is the best pitcher the Royals have. I hope the Cardinal bats are ready.

I sure do miss King Edwards here in StL. Co. for catfish on Friday or any other day. There’s a few other places that I’m aware of that serve up real good catfish, but they’re all located in either shaky badlands areas of the city or clear across the river in Illinois. I can’t run fast anymore and the price of fuel has me to the point where I can’t pay attention so I haven’t been able to partake in a nice fried catfish dinner or lunch for what seems like forever. In any case, I’m glad someone is still enjoying those tasty bottom feeders.

I had a pimento cheese sandwich and a glass of ice cold cow’s milk for lunch to hold to hold me over ’til suppertime, so I’m still undecided. I’m currently in ongoing negotiations inside of my coconut and it’s between spaghetti with jarred marinara sauce with a salad and some garlic bread or if I get lazy, which I’m always prone to do, I’ll call in a pickup order consisting of a deluxe pie from from Blues Fired Pizza right down the street. I’m going to have to make up my mind pretty quick because reading about those fiddlers has made me hungry…

I’d also like to offer up a tip of the cap and thank our fearless leader BW for the accurate info concerning the Redbird TV broadcasts. During all of these recent changes and shuffling of broadcasting rights, it’s been more than a little confusing at times to navigate and locate the correct channel on my cable set-up. I’ve found that this web-site consistently provides the most accurate and up to date info up top on the title heading of the game threads. It’s been more reliable than the guide feature on my cable set-up…Haha! In any case, TCN’s been my reliable go to when I’m having trouble gaining access to the games on the TV. Keep up the nice work!

I’ve got Costco Short Rib lasagna. It’s thd best lasagna I’ve ever had. Chabatta bread and cottage cheese. Washed down with plenty of diet Arnie Palmers Half and half lemonade and iced tea combo. A little later I have a pint of Ben and Jerry’s Half Baked which I customarily eat I it entirety. Go Cards. May deserves a V.

Back to scoreboard watching for yours truly as I am working all three Rockies-DBacks games this weekend. Nolan Arenado returns to his original haunts.

That also means no din-din to report as there is just not time to eat on this job. It will be a late night bowl of Raisin Bran. So I will catch up and give last night’s scrumptious fare, which was homemade chicken pot pie, sliced tomatoes, and for dessert a big slice of fresh watermelon. We kept the beverage simple with a big glass or two of classic cold water. 😁

I like Kurtz but would never give up Winn, Burleson and McGreevy for him. That’s too much. I would go with one of our prospect catchers, either Gorman or Burleson, and Pallante though.

Neither would I. Burleson may have the best bat on the team and adding both a SS and a young SP’er who may have enough talent to stay around awhile would be too much. Now that I’ve said that, Kurtz will amass 600 or so taters before he’s done…Haha!

It’s Nick Kurtz, gentlemen. He’s still a kid with future “HoF” written all over him. It’s one of those trade proposals that likely neither team would pull the trigger. With this upstart Cardinal squad doing so well, it would be insane to deal 3 key players for just one, even if that sole player already is…..or is bordering superstardom. Heck considering their ages, salaries and all, if I’m the A’s I wouldn’t trade Kurtz straight-up for Ohtani. I think the kid is that good.

Took a gander at the Palm Beach box score and saw that in 2 at bats Nootbar has a walk and a homerun. Good to see him start his rehab assignment and have success.

May looked good through 3 innings but not so much in the 4th giving up 2 runs on a couple of walks and a couple of hits.

Fortunate to escape that visitor half down by only 2 runs.

An article I read said Nootbar was eligible to come off the DL on May 24th. I’m thinking based on the schedule a more likely debut would be against the Cubs on the 29th.

In 5 seasons Michael’s pieced together a W/L record of 52-29. That’s pretty doggone good. And that long tater off the bat of Jordan into the the David Freese land CF grass was even better!

Thanks Osu. I wasn’t sure if there was a way that he could jump the gun and come back sooner.
