Time to get this game thread rolling.

Din-din today will be the weekly trip to the Gasthof, the Amish restaurant down in Montgomery. Anticipate fried chicken, roast beef, mashed potatoes/gravy, green beans, noodles, dressing, perhaps some boiled carrots or sweet potatoes, sweet iced tea, cherry cobbler, and vanilla soft serve ice cream. Then afterwards sit out on the bench in the front porch area with a 7×50 Palma Real Presidente cigar.

I am calling this one tonight a 7-3 St. Louis triumph with Burleson getting off the homerun schneid with a long dong to RF.

Ah, it’s that wonderful time of year for asparagus. Madame CiF and I began tonight’s din-din with fresh asparagus from our local farmers’ market, splashed with homemade vinaigrette, followed by New England clam chowder. Except it wasn’t really clam chowder because we can’t get clams around here forcing me to use mussels instead. So I suppose we had New England mussel chowder. And, strawberries are now in season, so we finished off the evening meal with a bowl of fresh gariguette strawberries. Yum.

Baseball. Let’s hope our birds are going to continue last night’s enjoyable offense, minus the little late game scare that briefly threatened the mood. I love to hear those bats cracking up and down the order.

    Rah Cardinals!

Now that’s a 1-2 dynamic din-din punch if I ever saw one. Very nice gentlemen (Cardinal in France & Rat). I’ll be heading on over to Johnny’s Italian Steakhouse later this afternoon for a medium rare ribeye, baked potato, buttered asparagus and water instead of my customary Coke……thanks to the kind suggestions from Albert and others on last night’s game thread. Also, there will be no trip afterwards to Popeye’s…….I’ll have some succulent cantaloupe waiting for me at home instead of 3 yummy apple cinnamon pies.

You’d love to get the 4 game sweep, but tonight’s game is the big obstacle. Tomorrow with Skenes dealing, we have about an 85% chance of obtaining victory, but tonight is the toughie. Hate to say it, but Pittsburgh wins this one with relative ease 6-2 with Nathan Church accounting for the 2 lone Redbird runs with a towering tater to center.

Nathan Church apparently did not like it when I compared him to Michael Siani. Since then he has looked like an everyday MLB player. It will be interesting to see what happens when Noot returns. Perhaps Church will become our everday CF.

Tonight I am going with thai pad noodles, asparagus spears, sliced pears, and a little debbie chocolate brownie, along with a glass of cold milk.

Could you please compare some of the other players to Siani?

We will be hitting the gym here in a bit, then later will see what we dish up for din-din. My guess is a trip to the Bike Cafe (ie our freezer) for something we cooked up and had leftover. I have a brother-in-law who refuses to eat leftovers. I have told him at the Bike Mike household the leftovers are often better than many places “firsts”. 😁 Now he and my sister never had kids, so everything they have is theirs. When you have had kids, you learn to compromise a lot more.

I too think this one will fall in the “L” column, as well as tomorrow’s contest for a series split. The one chance we have tonight is if Don Kelly pulls Chandler too early and the Buc bullpen coughs up a sure “W”.

Lots of great din-dins today! I will be going to Texas Roadhouse to help celebrate my grandsons 2nd birthday. Will be ordering a sirloin steak with baked sweet potato and fresh veggies. And if I’m lucky a large portion of the grandsons birthday ice cream.
Not liking our chances in the game tonight. My prediction is we lose 6-3.

Brad Thompson “Burleson may have a gold glove in his future”

Has Brad been watching the same games I have been? Burleson has not been a good 1B from what I have seen

Ozuna has had a horrible year. Glad he is no longer with the Cards although he did have a couple of good years in Atlanta.

I don’t know about gold glove, but I think Burly does fine over there. Catches short hoppers, catches foul pops, I don’t remember much getting past him inside the bag, fields routine grounders. With a bat first position, I’ll take my chances with the fancy stuff.

A 10 pitch inning which is much better. Maybe Pallante can get us into the 7th so we don’t need to use as many RP

I do think Burleson is a good receiver of throws and he’s solid going after pop-ups but his range on ground balls seems poor to me. Therefore I agree ATM – no Rawlings awards are likely to come his way.

I’ve been real busy catching up on homestead stuff, so a late dinner is a fried hamburger, potato salad, apple sauce with an ice cold Coca Cola. I see osuagec with the nice strip steak and the sweet potato. I’ve never had a thick juicy steak with a sweet potato but it sounds really good and I’m going to try it next time I grill or broil a ribeye or strip steak. I never make predictions…Especially about the future…However, a friendly baseball gypsy told me the Redbirds place their 3rd consecutive W in the bank tonight.

Yeah for me it is Burly’s range that is lacking. He can make the fundamental plays but he doesn’t have a lot of lateral range

Burleson will certainly never be compared to Mex but in my view he brings an entirely respectable mitt with him when he mans up over on the right corner of the IF.

I normally don’t check the standings until Labor Day…However, I happened to notice that the A’s are in 1st place in the ALW at 0.5 games ahead of the Mariners and 1.0 game in front of Skippys’ Rangers.

Burley golden glove material? Perhaps not. But from what I can tell via TV screen. Quite competent.

Back from the gym and cooled down. Missed the first part of this one and just dialed in – looks less than ideal in the Burgh.

We went with an easy din-din; veggie burritos made with pinto beans, grated sharp cheddar cheese, fresh spinach, lettuce and salsa. Made some guacamole to have with chips on the side.

And to top it off a cold, frosty one. Haven’t had a beer in weeks and it sounded good tonight.

I find it odd when home teams wear jerseys with the city name on them. Historically those were always worn on the road, with the team’s nickname on the home jerseys.

I don’t think the Marlins have jerseys that say “Marlins”. They have “Miami” on both home and road.

Burly really hits the ball well to the opposite field.

Chandler’s delivery reminds me a little of Hall of Famer Jim Palmer.

On Burly’a defense – he looks real good handling less than perfect throws. Would need to watch him more on handling bunts and going to his right to see if he would be gold glove potential.

The chatter about Burleson at 1B made me think of poor Bill Buckner. Many may overlook the fact that Buckner amassed over 2700 hits during his 22 year career. He also had two seasons in which he collected over 200 base hits. Bill Buckner could swing the bat with the best of them.

Tip of the cap to Pallante in this one. Better outing than I was anticipating. Up 3-1 after 5.
