ParticipantIt was a great outing by Mathews. He’ll have to work on not getting rattled. Right after the Gorman throwing error, he gives up a dinger.
March 6, 2026 at 5:34 pm #302190Clarke and Henderson are on the Breakout roster. What does that mean?
March 6, 2026 at 10:21 pm #302235Mentioned in the article.
March 8, 2026 at 11:54 am #302335You can’t read too much into pitcher/catcher pairings, but Findley and Dohm sure do throw to AA catchers a lot. I wonder if they might be fast-tracked into the Springfield pen.
March 8, 2026 at 1:00 pm #302337When a player is optioned out, can he be recalled within a certain time period? And for those who are optioned out doesn’t preclude them appearing in a MLB game. Any minor leaguer can appear in games as well, right? And if recalled that doesn’t count as a used option?
March 8, 2026 at 1:43 pm #302338Position players have to spend 10 days in the minors after being optioned – pitchers 15. There are exceptions for injuries to a major leaguer where you can bring someone up to cover who was just optioned.
If a player is recalled from their option in less than 20 days, the option doesn’t count as an option for the season.
Right now, everyone can appear in a Spring Training game because those aren’t regular season games.
March 8, 2026 at 2:52 pm #302340NigelT, you made a nice observation about pitcher-catcher pairings. However, Dohm threw three innings last time out, which certainly suggests a starting role. But it is also interesting that he was passed over for the preliminary Spring Breakout roster. I guess they already have enough starters for one game…
March 8, 2026 at 7:34 pm #302344I’m a little surprised they set Crooks down already although I think this confirms what I would have done to start the season. Crooks needs to develop more in AAA and Verbal does in AA. Evaluate again in July to see if Herrera has any chance of sticking at C. From there you can explore trades based off info obtained and who is left can be promoted up a level.
March 8, 2026 at 7:42 pm #302346Do you mean Bernal? If you do, he is ready for Memphis.
March 8, 2026 at 8:08 pm #302348I did mean Bernal. Autocorrect failed me.
Are you basing him being ready off some views of him in Spring? He did really good in AA last year to start the year but he dealt wore down and overall it was just an average season. I don’t think he needs a whole lot more time there, but another 2-3 months would be good for his development.
March 8, 2026 at 8:08 pm #302349
if Herrera has any chance of sticking at C
Well, he just got scratched due to ‘knee inflammation’, so lets see where that goes. It is important to recognize that a knee doesn’t just get inflamed for no reason, and we don’t know the reason. It can be rested until the inflammation goes away, but that doesn’t mean the reason went away.
March 8, 2026 at 9:15 pm #302350ATM asked:
Are you basing him (Bernal) being ready (for Triple-A) off some views of him in Spring?
Yes and discussions with others here in camp. However, the scenario you mentioned is certainly not impossible. In fact, I wrote about that possibility during the off-season in this free article.
March 9, 2026 at 1:03 am #302356Has Moreno done enough to be given a chance? I’d take his potential over Roycroft.

jj-cf-stlParticipantWho is the scrapper with the dirt all over him? (far right) Is that Peete?
March 20, 2026 at 9:20 am #302981I am guessing you mean the final photo of the many in the article. Yes, that is Peete.
March 20, 2026 at 1:18 pm #302987
jj-cf-stlParticipantYep, the pic without names. Thanks!
March 20, 2026 at 1:31 pm #302989There’s word from the back fields that including his Breakout game, Joshua Baez has homered in nine consecutive games.
NINE.

March 22, 2026 at 3:31 pm #303052Hey Brian, Is Mejia pulling a Donovan Salano? It seems he is starting to produce about the time he leaves the organization. A number of swith-hittinh middle infielders have had lengthy careers without ever wearing birds on tbe bat. Many of the names escape me but a Valera and a guy whose name started with an I like Imeldo Vargas or something come to mind.
March 22, 2026 at 6:36 pm #303056Mejia is only 20 years old and hasn’t advanced past Palm Beach. I think he has three more seasons before free agency so he has plenty of time remaining. He did fall off our Top 50, so he has some work to do.
