I think he meant to say “tickets sold” because I am pretty sure this wouldn’t be the first game with less than 20K in the park.

I just listened to it and he meant announced attendance for any of the four games. They haven’t dropped below 20K announced yet this year, though they have been close.
But if they reported turnstile attendance, 5K average might not be too far off!
Another point of reference, the first day of school in St. Louis is this Wednesday.

A season ticket isn’t always a season ticket. The various partial packages could further muddy the water, not that we can see any of it, anyway.
I am surprised they haven’t just shut Winn down since it is looking like he will need surgery at the end of the season.

Whenever one of these kids, including Arenado, sits down at the tail end of a season in which their team is effectively out of the loop I think of Warren Spahn who, at the age of 42 went 23-7 and also labored through 201 pitches while working 15.1 IP’ed in a losing effort against Marichal and the Giants at that same 42 years of age. The old lefty once sat out with an injury at the young age of 23, but that injury was sustained in battle during the intense combat he experienced during the Battle of the Bulge in WW2…Whenever someone attempts to convince me that today’s players are somehow stronger or more talented than in generations passed, I immediately refer them to some of the legendary all time greats such as Warren Spahn.
In regards to the kids returning to school and attendance figures, I can recall attending several games in the month of Sept. during close pennant races in which the grandstands were jammed packed to the gills and were as loud and raucous as any post-season game. Most were played against either the Mets or Phillies at Busch Memorial which held considerably more baseball fans than did the new venue. All that’s required is to win a lot of baseball games and fans will show up in Dec. if there’s baseball action scheduled.
Just now back to school? My kids have been back since August 6th here in Southern Indiana. Now seems like a much more reasonable time to go back, August 6th was really early.
The headline of an article contained in a local StL. newspaper asks the question, ‘What to expect from Chaim Bloom? Rays executive says he’s a great fit for Cardinals’…My question would be, fit for what? And, since when has a Rays executive been any sort of authority regarding what a good fit is for the St. Louis, Cardinals? I had to laugh to keep from crying.
Yeah, 667, the schools near our house have been teaching the kids new and exciting stuff for about a week now. The elementary school around the corner has had a squad car with it’s occupant shooting a speed gun in the school zone every morning and afternoon. I’m guessing the StL. city schools get cranked up a little later than in our area in the county.
And yeah, August 6th is early. When I was a kid if I had to return to prison before Labor Day, I’d have felt like I was getting cheated out of part of my summer vacation…
Back in the day it seemed we always started school after Labor Day, and finished up before Memorial Day. Now around here it seems to go from roughly August 10th to June 10th.
But, we never had all the breaks during the year. We never had Fall break, Thanksgiving break was only Thursday and Friday (they get the entire week now), and we did not have all of the single days here and there. Maybe the longer school year with more breaks is a better way to go, I am not sure.
As for the game, it may be embarrassing to see all of the empty seats tonight. The dugouts will have more attendees than some of the sections.
I had no idea the little tykes were afforded an entire week for Thanksgiving. That ain’t at all a bad deal. At any rate, I say the more time off from school the better. I mean, let’s face facts. It’s infinitely more important to have fun than it is to smarten up…
Church is playing in his 6th ML game. He has 2 hits, scored 5 runs and has 5 RBI. I want to see him start quite a few games and see if he can do it in the majors. I’m OK with his start, so far.
That sac-fly was pretty shallow. Pham has a decent arm, but they ran on him as if he couldn’t throw out a bedpan.
The Bucs harken back to their old “lumber company” days in that third inning. 4-1 Pittsburgh mid-third.
McGreevy has the exact same problem that Mikolas, Liberatore and Gray have. Their stuff isn’t good enough to compete in the zone so they’re forced to give in or nibble at the edges. If anything of theirs catches the plate, then they get hammered. I’d put McGreevy down as a 4ish starter going forward, which is fine. It’s better than Fedde was and Mikolas is, and around where Libby is. But he isn’t the savior of the rotation by any stretch.
