6:35 p.m.
RHP Sonny Gray (11-6, 4.30) vs. RHP Joe Boyle (1-2, 4.68)
FanDuel // KMOXAugust 21, 2025 at 9:39 am #291040Welcome to Steinbrenner Field!
While it is not ideal to have two major league teams (Rays and A’s) play in minor league parks that hold a little more than 10k fans at least it gives these two franchises the chance to occassionally have a sellout. 🙂
August 21, 2025 at 1:05 pm #291043Din din start: Cold cantaloupe.
Main course: Calves liver smothered in onions,
With mashed potatoes and snap beans.
Dessert: Torte a la francaise with ice cream.
Plenty of iced tea.Rah Cardinals!
August 21, 2025 at 1:53 pm #291045Din din here after my 4th straight sleepless night will be a Hungry Man’s Roasted Carved Turkey TV dinner. Along with an ice cold slushy Mt. Dew and a chocolate shake for dessert. All whilst me and Whitey Herdog sit on the couch and watch an episode of Hogan’s Heroes.
August 21, 2025 at 2:02 pm #291046Haha…Yeah, the Rays have managed to sell out every home game at a capcity crowd of 10,046. That has to be some sort of an attendance record.
August 21, 2025 at 2:14 pm #291047For the last 3 years Redbird fans have watched their team play a shortened season consisting of approx. 100 to 110 games and coming to an premature end during the first week or two of August. I’d experienced plenty of those in the past but had virtually forgotten what it was like to consistently have my favorite teams’ season come to a close long before the arrival of Autumn. It brings back fond memories of watching the Royals play the Yankees in the ALCS and then a WS conisting of the Yankees/Dodgers during the 70’s. I had a lot of fun watching post-season baseball back then, so maybe all is not lost.
August 21, 2025 at 2:45 pm #291050It’s another lovely 100+° heat index day in Tampa Bay. Let’s hope Gray has worked out his hot weather grip.
August 21, 2025 at 3:12 pm #291051It brings back fond memories of watching the Royals play the Yankees in the ALCS and then a WS conisting of the Yankees/Dodgers during the 70’s. I had a lot of fun watching post-season baseball back then, so maybe all is not lost.
I grew up in Independence Mo., home of Harry S and Bess Truman. I watched plenty of Royals baseball, but I was already a Cardinals fan. I migrated East to Columbia. After graduation highschool 1975. After my undergraduate studies I went to a party in StLouis with friends that lived here. We stopped at White Castle on the way back to one of the guys parents house. The next day we caught the matinee at Busch stadium. I had a girlfriend here and I contacted her and went and stayed at her parents house and hung out. I never did make it back home. Still here after 45 years.
August 21, 2025 at 3:31 pm #291054Those Royals teams led by Whitey were a lot of fun to watch and very good. With all the big names like Brett, McRae, Willie Wilson and Frank White, my favorite KC player was always little Freddie Patek. The Yankees couldn’t get the little SS out in either the ’76 or ’77 ALCS and he made all kinds of nice defensive plays in both of those classic down to the final play ALCS series.
August 21, 2025 at 3:33 pm #291055Gray has largely been a disappointment. Especially for his salary.
August 21, 2025 at 3:34 pm #291056Famous Amos Otis
August 21, 2025 at 3:46 pm #291060I fondly recall those playoff matchups from the late 70’s. It seemed natural to see an NLCS between the Dodgers and Phillies and an ALCS between the Yankees and Royals followed by a Yankees-Dodgers World Series. Being the loyal NL guy I was always disappointed to see the Dodgers lose to the Yanks. The 70’s was such a black hole for the Cardinals. Whitey was a breath of fresh air when he arrived for the great decade of the 80’s.
I never became much of Royals fan although I have attended many games there but I did become a huge Chiefs fan when the Big Red Cardinals moved to Arizona. Even though I have lived my entire life in Arkansas my family has a ton of history and connections to KC and STL. My son, who recently graduated from the U of A, just got his first fulltime job and it is in South KC. I moved him up to his new place in Overland Park, KS a few weeks ago.
August 21, 2025 at 3:55 pm #291061Milwaukee leads the Cubs 4-1 heading into the 9th at Wrigley. Looks like the lead is going to be back to seven (7) games after today barring a big time late inning rally by the Cubs.
August 21, 2025 at 4:02 pm #291062Yeah, I always pulled for the Dodgers too, gscottar, and the reasons were twofold. Like you mentioned, league loyalty was infinitely more present back then, so I always pulled for the NL team in both the WS and AS games. The other reason was that I’d just finished watching those despised Yankees knock off my favorite AL team and I was bitter about that…Haha! At any rate, those full throttle 5 game ALCS between the Royals/Yankees were the sort of battles that would rival Gettysburg or Atietam.
August 21, 2025 at 4:12 pm #291063And I was just reminded that John Shuerholz was the Royals scouting boss back in the mid 70’s before he was their GM and later on a GM with those Braves teams. He and former Redbird Lonnie Smith held a lot of affection for one another…
August 21, 2025 at 4:22 pm #291064Gee……so much to say with such little time:
I had a girlfriend here and I contacted her and went to stay at her parents house and hung out. I never did make it back. Still here after 45 years.
Classic move, KeepComingBack! Hopefully her parents have lifted you guys’ curfew by now?
What a dandy din-din dished out to the esteemed Cardinal in France today! Not only the quality of the food, but also the written format he treated us with. Rat’s din-din is nothing to sneeze at either. Those Hungry Man’s turkey din-dins are splendid. I was going to have one last night, but instead opted to head on over to Johnny’s Italian Steakhouse……and that’s where I’m heading again here in about 15 minutes. I’m leaning towards a chicken or fish din-din. Then for dessert, a heaping bowl of Breyer’s vanilla bean ice cream is on tap. I’ll mingle in a nice big gob of Jiff creamy peanut butter, banana slices and a bunch of Hershey’s chocolate syrup.
Don’t let Cy Boyle’s questionable stats fool you. He’ll go 6 strong tonight, but it won’t be enough to gain victory. Sonny Boy & Co. win this one going away 6-3.
August 21, 2025 at 4:37 pm #291065Actually I married her Pugs. It was wonderful long enough to have three little KCB’S. Than it wasn’t. The old Mrs KCB flew the coop and headed to the Sunshine state. The little KCB’S are still here and we are all Cardinal fans. So there’s a happy ending.
August 21, 2025 at 4:45 pm #291066And the Brewers did indeed hang on and beat the Cubs today. 4-1 Milwaukee was the final. Back to a seven game lead. The NL Central is not over yet but odds greatly favor Milwaukee the final 5-6 weeks of the season.

August 21, 2025 at 6:50 pm #291069I really like Winn as the Cardinal SS and I’m reasonably certain he’s going to be situated out there on the left side of the middle IF for quite a while. And I’m aware that he’s a young guy who doesn’t know any better but I sincerly wish a loved one or someone else that cares about him would explain to him how utterly ridiculous he looks out there on the field of play with those silly necklaces dangling from his neck.
Edit; I know, I know…I’m getting grouchy as I age!
August 21, 2025 at 7:09 pm #2910701td,
TOTALLY AGREE ABOUT THOSE SILLY NECKLACES!It just sickens me when I see players with earrings and gold chains dangling everywhere. So many players nowadays just want to be cool, look cute and pretty, thinking they are really impressing someone. That Elly de la Cruz from the Reds, somebody ought to explain it to him as well.
August 21, 2025 at 7:26 pm #291071Yeah Rat, they’re okay for the disco, but they look silly when worn on the diamond. And I don’t guess it’s that big of a deal. Pujols even wore one, but it wasn’t as loud and flashy as those that Masyn wears on the field. And in the case of Pujols, if a guy can hang a .671 SLG up on the board, I won’t care if he wears pearls and high heels on the field…Haha!
August 21, 2025 at 7:35 pm #291072Burleson taking control in the LCF portion of the OF…Haha!
August 21, 2025 at 7:37 pm #291073This Steinbrenner Field venue looks like a nice place to enjoy a baseball game.

ParticipantYeah TD I bet that field is really nice. Medium size grass field watching a night game really reminds me of myself. Orlando Twins and later Sun Rays used to play here. The fields gone now but those days were great memories. As a player I bet they love it compared to a closed in artificial field.
