    Looks like Pallante vs. Cease.

Would be nice to poke our heads back above .500

Winning games would me good medicine for this young team. Even better medicine for the manager if they’re considering a change next year. Finishing this season above 500 would be a nice accomplishment.

The Cardinals have won back-to-back games just once since June 29, but they have the chance today.

I sincerely hope that Romero is not the de facto closer now. He’s the only left handed pitcher in the entire bullpen. We need to use him more strategically.

I’m not sure who else it would be though. O’Brien has the best stuff but he can lose it sometimes. Granillo, Graceffo, and Svanson could all do it but they are all still inexperienced at the majors. Leahy is better suited for 2-3 innings at a time. Hard pass on Munoz given the crazy number of walks he surrenders. Fernandez is an option, but he just got recalled after being down most of the season. Romero is the true vet. But I think it hurts the team right now to use him in that role. I think I would go Fernandez or Granillo, but with any option we choose it could be a bumpy ride.

Let’s hope we get the Cease from July 28th. Guy was all over the stat sheet. Lol

I think Jo Jo has to close – we don’t have another L handed arm laying around somewhere to bring up or bring in?

Like I have said before I think O’Brien should be given the chance to close with Leahy and Jo Jo being the setup guys. If O’Brien chokes then we can try someone else. Giving guys auditions is the whole point of the next two months isn’t it?

Graceffo, O’Brien and Svanson have all held lefties under a .600 ops in a combined 140′-ish PA’s. JoJo as a lefty isn’t flying solo. JoJo as short term? The risk at closer could help or hurt his value.
If management opens the runways the players will seperate themselves.

If we need a closer I bet Ryan Helsley from the Mets would be available for the right package of prospects that won’t ever amount to a hill of beans.

I don’t think our bullpen is that much worse than it was before the deadline. All of those young guys have potential. Bullpen is not our biggest worry going into 2026 that is for sure.

I would go with O’Brien to close, and see if he can handle it. He has great stuff, but gets a little wild at times. Still he is my first choice, and I would throw Granillo and maybe Svanson out there a couple of times to see how they do. See if someone steps up ala Wainwright in ‘06 after Izzy was injured.

That extended run on Gorman at 3rd was short lived. Maybe he needs a day off or maybe they intend on seeing more Saggese.

JoJo has good stuff but he’s had runs of inconsistency. However since June 5 he has a 0.53 ERA. Maybe they have a closer by committee. I’d like to see Riley show off that power arm as well.

Pallante better have that death ball going today. Lol

I make no attempt to figure out what they’re thinking. Logic says to play Gorman as long as he is healthy.

Herrera got the start in LF last time Pallante pitched as well. I guess the theory is if most balls are on the ground, the left fielder doesn’t matter as much.

And to one question above, no, there really isn’t a good left handed option to bring up. Maybe Mosqueda? But he’s at best AAAA material. The only alternative in house would be to bring someone up from AA who will be rule 5 eligible anyway and who they are planning to protect. The options there are Hansen or Mautz. Both would be borderline rule 5 pickups for another team, but it certainly would be possible.

I like Burlys arm in the outfield, but not as much as i dislike Willson on the infield, both D and base running. Todays LF, 1B, DH is a second look at this alignment.

Ryan Fernandez seemed unshakable when he came up in 2024. He has supposedly righted his ship!this year.
I wouldn’t mind seeing him being a part of a closer by committee.

I could see the. Cardinals taking a chance on Crase diring the offseason as long as Crase doesn’t take himself out of the Cardinals comfort zone. Crase has really dug himself a hole while playing for San Diego. But there must have been some reason why he looked so promising while with the White Sox.

Pallantes is living on luck so far. Betthan half his pitches are way off the plate and Padres hitters are swinging at them. Plus, Pozo throwing out Tatis was a gift, IMHO.

I can’t help but wonder what kind of a player Pozo would be if he didn’t have all that fat hanging over his belt.

I would like to see him get MLB hitters out consistently. He hasn’t done that for a long time.

Not going to happen. If we buy it’ll be in the Colin Rea or starter looking for one last paycheck before being close to retirement territory.

Everyone has tossed his knuckle-curve out of the mix. Those last two sinker/slider K’s was battling well.

Pallante playing with fire and it cost him with the bunts and errors not helping. Cronennworth with a 2 run bomb. 2-0.

Sweeney makes a good point. Gets 2 strikes and Pallante lets the back in the AB.
