Rat vehemently complains of our hitting, but this team…….our team…..has no assemblance of a decent starting pitching staff whatsoever. I’d be in favor of getting rid of the entire lot of them. Only two have any kind of trade value. Gray could definitely fetch us some nice young talent. Let’s face it though, Gray is not an Ace. A very solid #2, but not an Ace. Heck, now with Woodruff back, insert Gray into Milwaukee’s starting staff and he’d be their #3……and maybe even their #4 starter. That’s how far we’re behind a team like the Brewers in the pitching department. Libby could get us something, but nothing significant, so he might be the only one of the 5 that we may want to keep. And Fedde, Mikolas and Pallante all need to be pink slipped asap, so to pave the way for a few of our youngsters to gain some experience. Nothing good can come to fruition with continuing to trot these 3 largely ineffective hurlers out to the mound every 5th day……..sorry for the lengthy rant. Let’s get on to the real meat of our Game thread material shall we? Tonight for din-din, I’ll be trotting on over to Johnny’s Italian Steakhouse for their world renowned Saturday Night prime rib. Anytime you have a nice prime rib it’s imperative that you dip your bites into some warm melted butter, as even though it’s a cholesterol elevator, it’s also a tremendous taste enhancer. After din-din, I’ll swing on through the Popeye’s drive thru lane to snag myself 3 of their scrumptious apple cinnamon pies.
Remember the good old days when we were 9 games above .500 after that three game sweep in Cleveland? That was June 29 but seems like ages ago. Since then we have started to flatline going 4-9.
Our rotation consists of:
A number 2 (Gray)
A number 3 (Libby)
Three number 5’s (Pallante, Fedde, and Mikolas)And an offense with only three guys who can consistently hit:
Herrera: 919 OPS
Burleson: 804 OPS
Donovan: 795 OPSPozo has an OPS of 835 but who knows if he is for real or not.
We just don’t have enough firepower.
The Brewers beat the Dodgers last night to keep pace with the Cubs and remain only 1 game back in the NLC. I have to concede that the Brewers run a first rate outfit based on the fact that they’ve managed to remain relevant in the NLC almost every season for a decade. They haven’t produced any championships, but year in and year out they place a team on the field that has a chance for bonus baseball. In any case, they’re beginning to make the Redbird setup look second rate.

Beginning? That’s why we have to bite the bullet and rid ourselves of all expiring contracts and Arenado.Fill the roster with viable players. If they fail to progress, move on from them.
Yeah, they make the Cardinals look like laymen despite averaging about 1M less fans per season in Milwaukee. I’m guessing that the best thing that could happen for the team would be for the current ownership to sell. They’ve grown as stale and stagnant as the brewery ownership once did. It’s also my best guess that when it’s time for Willie Jr. to say goodbye, his spawn will immediately offer the organization up for sale.

And din-din today will be some bar-b-q chicken in the oven, some petite sliced potatoes, deviled eggs, ice cold slushy Mt. Dew, and a chocolate shake for dessert.
Me and Whitey Herdog will be tuning in to the Reds/Mets game from Shea Stadium here momentarily whilst we begin our din-din. We had some really bad storms go through the area this morning. Hope they are done so we don’t lose our electricity again.

I don’t know how much Alonso will get and I’m not sure where the Cardinals would play him but I am assuming he would be out of our price range anyway.
Tucker is expected to get north of $400M. No chance the Cards will touch that.
Pugs hit it right in that our biggest issue is starting pitching. Now 7 1/2 back we are tipping the scale towards “sellers”, and need to come up with three starters that can give us a chance instead of running Pallante, Mikolas and Fedde out there.
Obviously we are not going to get that at the trade deadline, but perhaps we can add by subtracting at least two of those three stooges and audition McGreevy, and some others in the final two months to see if anyone looks like they can play this game.
Really, other than Herrera, Winn, and Donovan, no one on this club is untouchable. Scott is likely part of the future as well. But everyone else on the 25 man should be available for the right price.
Yeah, the rotation is such that it’s teetering on the brink of a genuine catastrophe. In my view, there’s a decent chance that the situation could quickly deteriorate to a state in which 80% of the turns won’t give the team even a sliver of a chance by the time the 3rd inning gets underway and create a reality that dictates game over by the 4th. It’s close to that scenario right now. In any case, I thought the SP’ing would be poor to horrible at the season’s onset, but the team had proven me wrong up until about late June. Most are aware that anytime a baseball team can’t squeeze more than one decent turn from a rotation every 5th day, the L’s pile up quicker than Grant took Richmond.
Our offense could be better, but it is sufficient when we get decent pitching. But we just don’t get that from the three stooges, and Libby has struggled of late as well.
There seems to be an uptick in rumors that Arenado will be a Yankee before we get to the National Sports Collectors Convention. Maybe we can bring some arms in from a deal for Nado that will audition with some innings.
But who will take Larry and Moe? We likely can’t give them away.
Yeah, it’s hard to fault the bats when it’s 6-0 in the 3rd inning. Normally when a opposing pitcher inherits that sort of a lead he switches to auto-pilot. There are no such things as pressure outs or stessful innings. Real hard to wear him down when he’s working with that kind of a lead.
Of course the FOX station in Oklahoma is showing the Cubs vs Red Sox instead of the Cardinals. Going to have to find new evening plans I guess.
You’re not missing much. The body language tonight thus far looks like a team that has already been defeated. Although Winn did just put together a nice at bat.
Well done Gray. Well done rolling out this stinker when the team needed you to pitch a good game. Again well done on this stinker.
Same lousy routine. Game’s basically out of hand after 2 full innings. I can easily envision an extended stretch in which not one of these 5 guys who make up the rotation will afford their team a sliver of a chance.
