11:40 a.m.
LHP Matthew Liberatore (2-2, 3.19) vs. RHP Hunter Greene (2-1, 0.98)
FanDuel // KMOXMay 1, 2025 at 8:31 am #280798Let’s see if the offense can roll Greene today.
May 1, 2025 at 9:52 am #280804Left hander Andrew Abbott is making the start for Cincinnati. Cards going with the RH heavy line-up
1. Nootbaar LF
2. Winn SS
3. Donovan 2B
4. Arenado 3B
5. Contreras 1B
6. Baker DH
7. Walker RF
8. Pozo C
9. Barrero CFMay 1, 2025 at 10:35 am #280805Really like what I have seen of Pozo – lively bat and seems to handle the game well. We will have a tough decision when Herrera comes back.
Walker on the other hand is an enigma. I would be tempted to keep Pozo and send Walker to Memphis for further work. I like his stance a lot more than he had last year – more balanced. He certainly has the tools, but needs to be much better at pitch selection. Hitting is a lot about pitch recognition once you have the mechanics down. It is pretty simple really – swing at pitches you can square up, and let pitches you can’t do much with go by.
Of course that is easy to say and not so easy to do, as pitcher’s jobs are to make pitches look good, but then dart away or are not easy to square. Still, Walker misses on good pitches too often, or lets them go, and swings at bad ones more than he should. Just improve on that and he will gain 150 to 200 OPS. Not to mention the confidence will grow and he could be an elite talent. Whether he gets there we will see.

jj-cf-stlParticipantI’m guessing Oli enjoyed penciling in Winn at batting second, again. It clicked. There’s so much failure in baseball, hitting on a hunch is rewarding.
May 1, 2025 at 10:57 am #280813BikeMike, replacing Walker with a third catcher would leave your OF pretty thin, wouldn’t it?
May 1, 2025 at 11:14 am #280815Is it just my eyes on the TV screen or does Pozo appear to be a little jiggly around the middle?
May 1, 2025 at 11:39 am #280818Looks like there might be some rain in the Cincinnati area before too long.
It doesn’t look like much though.
May 1, 2025 at 11:40 am #280819
jj-cf-stlParticipantThat’s hilarious!
May 1, 2025 at 11:58 am #280820
jj-cf-stlParticipantLibby competing in the zone again.
13 pitches, 11 strikes.May 1, 2025 at 12:03 pm #280821
jj-cf-stlParticipantBottom half of the order has a rally snuffed out by two line drive outs.
May 1, 2025 at 12:10 pm #280822
jj-cf-stlParticipantLibby issues a 2 out walk and a center cut mistake.
2-0 CinMay 1, 2025 at 12:26 pm #280824
jj-cf-stlParticipantTwo singles with 2 out, and an error, score one stl run.
2-1 cinMay 1, 2025 at 12:46 pm #280826
jj-cf-stlParticipantHeaded to the bottom of the 4th, rain delay.
2-1 cincyMay 1, 2025 at 2:10 pm #280832Anyone have any idea as to how long before it’s possible to get back underway?

May 1, 2025 at 2:35 pm #280834Thanks, 64!
May 1, 2025 at 2:49 pm #280835Someone mentioned Pozo looking a little portly. It reminded me of Dave “La Heap” LaPoint dropping a perfect underhand toss from Hernandez for a crucial 7th inning E-1 that opened the floodgates for the Brewers in game 4 of the ’82 WS. The game ended as a 7-5 Redbird loss and Herzog said, “If it had been a cheeseburger he’d have caught it”…
May 1, 2025 at 2:54 pm #280836I could have hit that 0-2 lambchop slider from O’Brien.
May 1, 2025 at 3:48 pm #280837Well that was a dud. Disappointing offensive performance all the way around. Frankly, disappointing from the 4th inning of the 2nd game yesterday through today.
May 1, 2025 at 4:12 pm #280838Without a solitary RBI and only 3 paltry singles, I understand what you’re driving at, Jnevel, but if the bats had generated 9 runs today it wouldn’t have been enough. The BP tossed this one into the fire.
May 1, 2025 at 4:26 pm #280839The rain did us no favors today. Libby did not come back out after the delay and we had to use the B Team bullpen.
May 1, 2025 at 4:28 pm #280840Our guys just ran out of gas. With everybody thinking sweep, they were thinking sleep.
May 1, 2025 at 5:32 pm #280843Considering the lousy performance on the road this season, a 2-2 split of the 4 game set against a division rival with a superior W/L record seems pretty good. The Cardinals won’t find any bargains when they arrive home tomorrow to see the Mets for 3 games.
May 1, 2025 at 5:40 pm #280844Based on the first two divisional road series, the days of feasting on the Reds and Bucs may be over. The Cards are 3-4.
