I read in a Baseball America chat that Geoff Pontes has info saying Wetherholt will be back in the lineup sometime this week. Hoping to see it any day now to verify he is healthy.

Albert – I heard something about stomach cramps or illness of some sort.

That must be one heck of stomach cramp if Wetherholt still didn’t play today. I half expect the Cards to announce he is on the 60 day IL with something like a torn abdominal muscle.

I’m curious too Albert. It’s now been a few days.

A few interesting players rising up the ranks (while others are tumbling quickly). Jeremy Rivas is actually hitting and doing so with some power. He could finally help the team move on from Fermin. Josh Kross is hitting a ton. He may be getting a promotion soon. Jon Jon Gazdar is starting to make a name for himself. Little known Deniel Ortiz is also opening some eyes. I’m highly interested in this guy as I think he came out of community college and then he was the only position player drafted the Cardinals didn’t play last year. Brandt Thompson is another to watch now that was picked late in ‘24 and is having good results. Travis Honeyman also hitting a ton, but I think he’s older than Walker and in Low A due to injuries so don’t get too excited yet.

Chase Davis, Wetherholt, Bernal, Crooks, McGreevey, and Roby are also all performing well. Most of our other prospects are either injured or playing poorly. That’s not quite an all-encompassing statement, but mostly true.

Barrero has been on fire lately. He just hit a 3-run homer in the final inning to give the Redbirds a 2-run lead.

Any scouting on Gastelulem? He has like 115 strikeouts in 85 innings. He is at AA, and we can always use relievers with high K rates.

His changeup is incredibly good. Like off the charts good. His fastball is average but plays up because of the changeup. That’s pretty much it.

Looks like Travis Honeyman is still injured. Hasn’t played more than two games in a row all season, hasn’t played since Wednesday.

I wouldn’t worry much about the more than 2 games in a row thing. That’s pretty standard for Low A when they have 30 rostered players. Even the prioritized guys all sit out at least once a week if not twice. But yeah, I noticed he hadn’t played for a few games. I guess it’s now 3 in a row. That is not business as usual. He must be sick or hurt again.

I guess PB only has 13 position players on their roster (as of today anyway) so you’d expect their guys to all get about 5 starts a week. They do have a lot of OFers though.

And speaking of injuries, Tyler O’Neil is back on the IL.
