I think Siani should stay in the lineup even after Noot returns. He is our best defender and baserunner and his offense is warming up. What is not to like? Reds fans have to be furious that their front office gave this guy up for nothing. Mo is finally making amends for the Adolis and Randy fiascos. lol
That scenario could transact as Noot for Fermin, w/Donovan to the IF/DH. OF is Noot, Siani, Burly, Carlson (4th).
Donovan overwhelms the DH role. Carp PH’s, Crawford is strictly backup SS, Pages, Carlson as the bench.
Until we can add a better CF’r, I endorse who is up.
I am pretty sure Siani will stay in the lineup with Noot coming back as Noot will go to RF, and Burly to DH meaning Carp is on the bench.
Now if Edman comes back, I am unsure what the org would do. I maybe would just use Edman as a super util as he used to be. Give him maybe 2 starts a week in CF, 1 at SS, 1 or 2 at 2B, and 1 at 3B. Particularly against LHP he can take CF.
JJ, why would Donovan be DH when he has been an above average defender while Burly stays in RF and has been one of the worst OFers defensively this year?
Thats’ a good point. Donovan has always worked from DH and I guess I used my default setting, which is now outdated.
Donovan has clearly passed Burly on outfield D this season, even tho they were close to even this winter for me.
But, if we keep Donny in the OF, we see Crawford too much on the infield and have a Carp/Burleson DH, Oli will struggle with.
Catch-22
While looking at Gray’s last 5 turns in the rotation I happened to notice that last season he only allowed 8 HR’s in 184 IP’ed. That’s miserly with the taters.
I walked into the kitchen to grab a bag of cheese popcorn and a Coca Cola and missed the entire Cardinal half of the 1st inning. I was only in there for 30 seconds…
Donovans improvement in the outfield has really been a plus this first half. It shows how a ballplayer can adapt.
We will never get that same defensive improvement from Walker or Burly. Can’t see it at all.
Donovan’s a former GG IF’er and I never thought the defense suffered at all with him situated at either corner of the OF.
Even though the quality of play has been substantially better as of late, Im still seeing a lot of empty seats. It sure looks like a sparse crowd for a sunny Saturday game in June. I talked to a friend the other day who attended a Monday night game vs. the Braves and he told me that he paid $40 just to park so he’d only be about a block from the ballpark with his two young grand kids. Maybe the cost of a game is affecting the gate. It ain’t at all a cheap out down there.
JJ I definitely see Walker being better than he was at first. You could see the improvement late last year and in a small sample, he was an average defender this year. He is very athletic and just needs to continue getting more comfortable out there
1TD, the stands look pretty filled for night games. I can’t blame people for not wanting to go to day games in the summer. I don’t know who scheduled our game times, but they didn’t do Dewitt and favors with so many mid day Saturday games
Yeah, it can be like purgatory during a day game down there, but the heat’s not too bad in the area today. I wouldn’t want to brave it for 3 hours, but when I was younger I wouldn’t think twice.

Walker did improve at the catchpoint, if he got there, but at who’s expense?
Chris Duncan w/better finishing skills. Neither do read and react like an outfielder.
I don’t think Walker comes back up this year unless he really goes on a tear. Mo said they are going to be very patient and let him really work on the swing changes to lift the ball. That also gives him plenty of time to keep improving his reads and routes
We will see what happens in the off-season as there could be trades that open up a spot or injuries.
