This one would be a big one to win. Especially with the Braves coming to town next week. We don’t want to fall back to 2-3 games under .500 again.

Yeah, the low mark for the season was 9 under on May 11th. Win today to sweep the Giants and it would be a high water mark for the season at 2 above .500 with the Braves for 3 games starting on Monday and finishing up the homestand with 4 games against the Reds. If they can finish out the remainder of this homestand at 5-3, I’ll begin to suspect this year’s edition can compete the rest of the way.

Taking a quick glance at the out-of-town scoreboard this Saturday evening:

The Padres have a 4-0 lead on the Brewers in the 7th inning at Jack Murphy Stadium in San Diego. If the Padres hang on we would only be five games out.

The Reds lost a close one to Boston today. 4-3 Red Sox your final at Riverfront Stadium.

The Cubs pounded the Mets today at Wrigley Field. 8-1 was the final.

And the Pirates held on for a 4-3 win over Tampa Bay today at Three Rivers Stadium.

Yankees lead the Braves 8-3 at Yankee Stadium in the 8th in a nationally televised game on Fox. Those Yankees are loaded this season and at this juncture I’d have to pick them as the favorites to win the last game of the ’24 season.

I would not have minded seeing Sonny pitch Monday vs Atlanta instead of tomorrow. We need to gain some revenge vs the Braves, as they’ve pretty much owned us in regular season play of late…..I think we’re 6-14 against them over the past 3 years. I thinking that we take 2-3 from them next week and then most likely split the 4 game series vs Cincy.

Yeah Pugs, it seems like we haven’t won a series against the Braves since the ’19 NLDS.

Brewers push 4 runs across in the 9th, but the Padres hang on for a 6-4 W and the Cardinals move a little closer to within 5 games off the pace in the NLC.

Thoughts on switching Goldy to 2nd and Burly to 3 in the lineup?
Especially after Contreras is back…. Winn, Goldy, Burleson, Contreras, Gorman, Arenado, Donovan mixes up the RH, LH a bit more. Just a random Sunday morning thought.

Winn Burleson. I would be surprised if they move off of that unless one of them completely craters. Do what you want with the rest. If I was making the lineup with healthy players counting Contreras I like

    Winn
    Donovan
    Burleson
    Contreras
    Goldy
    Gorman
    Arenado
    Pages

The last coupla games have warmed the old cockles and have dared me to hope, though I know I shouldn’t. Just imagine the joy of a sweep!

Rah Cardinals! And how about that Burleson fella!

It’ll be pretty hot out there on the field this afternoon. I expect the Redbird manager will rest Burelson for today’s game and limit Gray to 50 or 60 pitches.

Those are some empty seats. Although it is especially hot so I wouldn’t want to be out in the sun all day for a day game either.

Good start to the game. Getting some runs early and raising Webb’s pitch count on a hot day

Well Pages stealing a base isn’t something I had on my bingo card

Pagés is so similar to Yadi. You thought Yadi would never steal a base. So when the pitcher pays no attention, there he goes.

Single and catch a clean game and you’re solid. The SB is icing!

These guys are playing like they expect to win. I’m impressed those two turds in Miami didn’t kill them.

And the Pages steal makes a difference as Burleson puts another ground ball through a hole.

We really have Webb timed and are running wild on him. Those SB are all on Webb and not Bailey

Pages has been stealing some strikes, too. He pulls every borderline pitch right into the zone.

It seems almost cruel to run on the Giants.
