The St. Louis Cardinals system was 0-4 on Sunday. The Cardinals Nation’s Player of the Day is Memphis left fielder Jared Young who went 2-for-3 with a homer, a walk, two RBI, and a run scored. Other standouts include Gavin Collins, Dionys Rodriguez, Roy Garcia, and Hunter Kublick.

The Memphis Redbirds (27-24) lost a longball-filled game against the Durham Bulls 8-5 on Sunday at Durham Bulls (21-30, TBR) Athletic Park. Starter Gordon Graceffo took his fifth loss this season, throwing 4 1/3 innings, allowing six runs on seven hits while walking three and striking out three.
The Bulls struck first in the first with a solo longball to right-center field.
The Redbirds tied the game in the top of the second with a solo moonshot from Jared Young.

Durham returned the favor with a three-run bomb in the bottom of the second.
Gavin Collins’s solo dinger to left-center in the third brought the game to 4-2.

A two-RBI single in the fifth gave the Bulls a 6-4 lead and ended Graceffo’s day on the mound.
Brandon Komar took over the mound and he allowed a two-run homer in the sixth to give Durham a four-run lead.
César Prieto’s solo home run in the ninth made the score 8-5.

Collins went 2-for-4 with a homer, two RBI, and a run scored. Young hit 2-for-3 with a homer, a walk, two RBI, and scored once. Prieto was 1-for-5 with a homer, an RBI, and a run scored. The Redbirds totaled five runs on nine hits with four walks and two strikeouts.
Komar pitched 1 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out one. Andre Granillo pitched a scoreless inning, yielding no hits while striking out two. Nick Raquet threw a scoreless inning, giving up no hits and a walk while striking out two. Memphis allowed eight runs on 11 hits while walking four and striking out eight.
The Memphis Redbirds split their away series with the Durham Bulls with three wins each. Memphis will begin a homestand on Tuesday against the Nashville Sounds (27-24, MIL).

Springfield 2, Tulsa 6 (seven innings)
The Springfield Cardinals (25-20) were defeated 6-2 in a shortened game due to weather delays by the Tulsa Drillers (20-24, LAD) on Sunday at Hammons Field. Starter Trent Baker took his third loss this season, pitching five innings, and allowing three runs, two earned, on four hits while walking three and striking out five.
Tulsa struck first in the first with a solo home run to right-center.
The Cardinals took the lead in the fourth with Jimmy Crook’s RBI groundout and Matt Lloyd’s sacrifice fly.
Ryan Shreve replaced Baker in the sixth after Baker allowed two singles to begin the inning. An RBI fielder’s choice and a sacrifice fly gave the lead back to the Drillers, and a two-RBI double later in the inning extended the lead to 5-2.
Shreve gave up a solo shot to right-center in the seventh to make it 6-2.
Shreve threw two innings, yielding three runs on three hits while striking out two. The Cardinals allowed six runs, five earned, on seven hits while walking three and striking out seven.
Matt Lloyd went 1-for-2 with an RBI. Nathan Church hit 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Bryan Torres was 2-for-3. Springfield totaled two runs on five hits with no walks and one strikeout while going 0-for-1 with runners in scoring position.
The Springfield Cardinals won three of the seven games they played in their homestand against the Tulsa Drillers. The Cardinals will travel to Wichita to play the Wichita Wind Surge (18-26, MIN).
Tuesday’s game: at Wichita, RHP Max Rajcic (4-4, 6.75) vs. TBD 7:05 CT.
The Peoria Chiefs (15-30) fell to the Cedar Rapids Kernels (28-16, MIN) 6-2 on Sunday at Dozer Park. Starter Cooper Hjerpe took his third loss this season, pitching four innings, and allowing two runs on four hits while walking one and striking out four.
The Kernels struck first in the first with a solo homer on the third pitch of the game and a sacrifice fly later in the inning to take a 2-0 lead.
The Chiefs cut the deficit in half with Leonardo Bernal’s RBI single in the third.
Zane Millis replaced Hjerpe in the fifth and allowed a solo shot to left-center field to the first batter he faced.
Cedar Rapids pulled away in the top of the seventh with an RBI triple and a two-run bomb to left-center field.
Graysen Tarlow’s RBI single in the bottom of the seventh earned one run back to make the score 6-2, but the Chiefs could not catch the Kernels.

Bernal hit 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. Tarlow went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Won-Bin Cho was 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored. The Chiefs totaled two runs on six hits with two walks and seven strikeouts.
Millis threw two innings, allowing four runs on five hits while striking out three. Gustavo Rodriguez threw a scoreless inning, yielding a hit and a walk while striking out three. Dionys Rodriguez and Roy Garcia each threw a scoreless inning, giving up no hits or walks while both striking out two. Peoria allowed six runs on 10 hits while walking two and striking out 14.
The Peoria Chiefs won two of the six games they played in their homestand against the Cedar Rapids Kernels. The Chiefs will travel to Lansing to play the Lansing Lugnuts (OAK, 22-23).

The Palm Beach Cardinals (25-20) were shut out 4-0 by the Lakeland Flying Tigers (29-16) on Sunday at Publix Field at Joker Marchant Stadium. Starter Jason Savacool took his second loss this season, pitching 3 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on three hits while walking four and striking out two.
The Flying Tigers struck first in the third with a two-RBI triple and an RBI fielder’s choice out to take a 3-0 lead.
Relief pitcher Luis Gastelum took over the mound in the eighth and allowed a sacrifice fly that made the score 4-0.
Hunter Kublick threw 3 1/3 innings, allowing no runs on two hits while walking two and striking out two. Gastelum pitched one inning, yielding one run on one hit. Palm Beach gave up four runs on six hits while walking six and striking out four.
Brayden Jobert went 1-for-3 with a walk. Chase Davis, Kade Kretzschmar, Chase Adkison, and Trey Paige each tallied a hit in Sunday’s game. The Cardinals scored no runs on five hits with two walks and two strikeouts while stranding seven men on base.
The Palm Beach Cardinals won two of the six games in their week-long series at the Lakeland Flying Tigers. The Cardinals will begin a two-week homestand with their first matchup being against the Tampa Tarpons (18-27, TBR).

The 9-8 rookie league Cardinals will play their 18th game of the 2024 season on Monday at CACTI Park of the Palm Beaches Complex against the FCL Astros (4-12, HOU).
