Gray, a rested A team in the pen and hot bats will make for a good game. Too bad for me its a late west coast start time.

There were three really good late west coast games last night. Besides the Cards/Angels game there was the Dodgers/Giants and Reds/DBacks.

The Dodgers beat the Giants 6-4 in 10 innings last night. The Giants had a chance in the last of the 10th but a 5-4-3 DP ended it.

And the Reds led 5-4 heading to the last of the 9th with Diaz coming in. And Diaz didn’t have it last night. He hit Lourdes Gurriel with his 1st pitch, then got an out, then walked the next two batters to load the bases. Newman’s soft line drive single to shallow right plated two runs and the DBacks won it 6-5.

And continuing on with the out-of-town scoreboard from last night. The Cubs fell 2-0 to the Braves at Fulton County Stadium in Atlanta. Happ had a career bad night. Three strikeouts and he also hit into a 6-4-3 DP in the 9th to kill the rally.

Tonight this team has a chance to forever place itself into it’s rightful position in legendary Cardinal lore as they go for the three-peat.

Well people, you get two bad ball clubs together and anything can happen as we saw last night.

Speaking of bad ball clubs, or maybe good (for now) clubs, break up the Rox! They won their fifth straight last night with ex-Cardinal Dak Hudson getting the win in San Diego over ex-Cardinal manager Mike Shildt’s team, and ex-Cardinal farm hand Elurius Montero driving in three of their five runs.

Yeah, the Angels gifted the Cardinals 8 BB’s and 2 E’s and Goldschmidt collects his 14th RBI the hard way via a HBP. I’ve seen cleaner games at mud wrestling tournaments.

We need to take advantage of playing against a team as bad as we are (although we said that against the White Sox) because the next three series are against the Red Sox, Orioles, and Cubs, all who currently have winning records.

Once Soriano’s night was done, I sensed that the manner in which the Angels unraveled was not at all unlike the sort of routine I’ve become accustomed to seeing from the Cardinals. The similarities were numerous.

Yes, enjoy it while you can as this upcoming home stand will be brutal. Ollie might find himself unemployed once Memorial day rolls around.

But then the Rockies swept the World Champs last weekend, so who knows. You play 162 and anything can happen in a stretch of a few games.

I must admit, when the Redbirds fell behind 4-0 I said the heck with it and turned it over to the Dodgers and Giants game. Then the rest of the night me and Whitey Herdog switched back and forth between the Dodgers/Giants and the Reds/Dbacks game. Both were good games. When I saw the Cards had scored five runs and taken the lead I was not going to jinx them by switching back over to BSMW.

Tonight will be the same. Start out with the El Birdos and see how that game goes. If it gets out of hand I have the other west coast games to switch over too.

Din-din today was a Subway BMT, on wheat, double meat, American Cheese, lettuce, onions, mayo, some mustard along with an ice cold slushy Mt. Dew. Then a big bowl of Turkey Hill Vanilla Bean ice cream. Late tonight the snack will be a bowl of chili and a cherry turnover. Along with some Cherry Kool-Aid. And two or three 7×50 Palma Real Presidente Cigars whilst me and Whitey Herdog start this rainy evening out with the Cubs and Braves from Turner Field in Atlanta.

I find it interesting that Burleson didn’t start last night against the righthander. But starts tonight, batting 5th, against the lefty. I like Winn leading off tonite against the LHP.

Burly is hitting .150 vs lefties this year so I am not surprised. Perfect for the 5 hole.

Well, Herrera had 2 hits and 2 RBI’s last night and is 9 for 19 in his last 5 games, so it makes perfect sense to place Pedro Pages behind HP for tonight’s game. I sure do like his name…He may well prove to be a worthy successor to Manny Motter.

“Burly is hitting .150 vs lefties this year”. Yep, that’s nothing special. Wonder how Gorman, Nootbaar, Donovan and Carlson are hitting lefties this year.

The last time Carlson collected a base hit vs. any pitcher in a regular season game was on Aug. 6, 2023.

I would have had Herrera in there as the DH and Fermin at second. But Ollie has guided us to only about 30 games under .500 for a year and a quarter. I would likely have us about 50 games under!! 🙃

Good to have that losing streak behind us. I’ll remember the base running. They played hard right thru it, and now they’re getting a few bounces their way.

Kind of hard to put someone in the lineup who’s not on the current roster.

Nola threw a complete game shutout vs the NYM.

I’ll be darned. A pitcher working a shutout is almost as rare as a pitcher working a no hitter these days.

And everyone knows that a shutout will always be a much better winning proposition than a no hitter.

There’s a time to stay out the way, and their manager did.
