I don’t mind that decision, but I don’t understand the decision to pitch him in relief the other day. He will likely be on an even further reduced pitch count. I was hoping he could get up to 55-60 in his 2nd start in a row.

As I posted on Friday’s thread, Liberatore threw just 13 pitches in relief. 13. It was probably his day to throw between starts, anyway. I do not expect that will limit him in his next start any more than he was already.

I hope it doesn’t become an excuse for his results on Monday.

It sounds like you don’t have much confidence in Liberatore, Brian? His outing against CWS was against a bad opponent so I can understand hesitation. The Angels aren’t great but are around middle of the road so at least it is a step up.

Liberatore is one of the several players that we thought would be a good big league player for us that has not worked out.

    Flahery
    Hudson
    Reyes
    Hicks
    Liberatore

    Taveras (unfortunately)
    Carlson
    Walker
    O’Neill (one good year)

We have 23 hits in the last two games, so as of right now we are not in a hitting slump. We haven’t done a good job of turning baserunners into runs, but that is not just a this year problem.

I don’t understand using him in relief either. I know they use the old “his day to throw a side session bit”, but if that is such a minor thing then why aren’t starters often used on their “side session” days?

I think you set your starters role and stick to it except for under extreme circumstances – like extra innings, injuries, etc.

What really makes this three game series in Anaheim bad is this:

The Dodgers are at the Giants and the Reds are in Arizona.

I would like to see both of those games but, obviously, I will be tuning in to the Redbird broadcast. Now, however, if the Cards/Angels game is a blowout I do have two other late west coast games to choose from.

Mike Trout’s now the same age as was Pujols when he joined the Angels in ’12. At any rate, despite the fact that he’s appeared in 3 post-season games, I view him as a sort of modern day player for the Cubs…Ernie Trout?

Ernie Banks never got far as a Cub did he?

    Just looked him up.

Banks played 2,528 games and never reached the post season.

Of course, most of the years he played your team either won the league and went to the World Series or missed the playoffs.

I haven’t given up on Lib and the Cardinals shouldn’t either. It’s a issue of him learning the craft.

I loved Ernie Banks. And that’s even with the fact he was a Cub.

It’s obviously ten-fold times easier for today’s players to get the chance to experience and enjoy participating in post-season action than it was when “Mr. Cub” was putting together his HOF career, and despite appearing in 3 post-season games, all of which were losses for his team, I always thought it was a shame that we didn’t get to see Mike Trout participate in more high stakes post-season games when he was at the zenith of his career. He was really something when he emereged onto the scene as a 19 year old Big League baseball player and was without question the epitome of what’s termed a 5 tool baseball player. If he had been the CF’er for the NY Yankees, he’d already have two Yankee hats in the HOF. In any event, he’s still a heck of a baseball player, but in my view, the trajectory of his HOF career has reached it’s pinnacle and is on path for entry back down into the Earth’s atmosphere.

Like Pujols, Trout had already booked a HOF career before his physical decline began.

Trout has certainly been a fabulous player. Reminds me some of a latter day, righty hitting only Mickey Mantle. Just a fabulous talent that has been beset with a lot of injuries.

And as for Ernie Banks, the Cardinals actually had him in for a look-see (to quote Barney Fife) as a youngster. Supposedly the guys watching him work felt he was too slow, and passed on him. Oops!

No question about it, RBK, but Albert Pujols played in 85 post-season games and 3 WS prior to his descent from orbit. No such thing for Mike Trout.

25% of the season is done, and they still can’t bat Goldschmidt lower than #3

The winning streak is one in a row. Let’s try for two.

Cardinals have won two in a row a total of three times this season. The most impressive streak is three in a row. So yeah, a win tonight would be something to get excited about.

The Cardinals are playing a team with a worse record. Though that didn’t help them with the White Sox.

Just finished a roast from the crock-pot meal, and it was outstanding.

Thanks for the lineup. Siani has benched Carlson with no pushback. Leadoff DH of Carp instead of Burly starting at DH. I liked the signs of life the lineup showed last night.
