May 10, 2023 at 7:00 am #219988Maybe yes and maybe no.
Yesterday, The Cardinal Nation's no. 3 #STLCards prospect, right-handed pitcher Tink Hence, was listed as slated to come off the IL to be Friday's probable starter for High-A Peoria. Today, that has changed. Friday's starter is no longer Hence, but is "TBD". pic.twitter.com/YyLmi6kGgo

May 11, 2023 at 11:08 am #220100Walker has been down for about a dozen games and I never see or hear anything, so I figured I better check. Ouch. Hopefully he’s working on stuff.

cardsfan64ParticipantSome minor league stuff:
RHP Tink Hence (A+) has been activated from the 7-day IL.
RHP Zane Mills (A+) has been placed on the 7-day IL.
RHP Mike Brettell (AA) has been activated from the 7-day IL and given his unconditional release.

ParticipantWhen a minor leaguer puts up the numbers that Curialle has it makes you open your eyes. Yes its only mid-May but he is crushing low-A pitching up until now. He might get challenged with a call-up to class A soon. Peoria has Osvaldo Tovalin playing 3B so we’ll have to wait and follow along.
He, Bernal and Yeager provide PB with a potent 3-4-5 in the order.. Maybe we struck gold with these three.
Check this out….CARDINALS Prospects On Deck: 3B Michael Curialle – Cardinals by David Conte
St. Louis Cardinals selected Michael Curialle in the 12th round of the 2022 June MLB Draft out of UCLA. During his three years as a starter at the University of California Los Angeles, the Freehold, NJ native batted .306, with 87 runs scored, 33 doubles, six triples, eight home runs, 86 RBIs and 40 walks. In Curialle’s first season in pro baseball, he was sent to play with the Palm Beach Cardinals (Low A) and through 21 games, he batted .231, with nine runs, four doubles, five RBIs and six walks. During the month of August that season, he hit safely in 8 of 13 games and 3 of 5 in September as he got acclimated to pro pitching.
So far in 2023, Curialle has showed off his knack at putting the bat on the ball as he current is batting .398 (37 for 91), with 12 doubles, two triples, a home run, 18 RBIs and 21 walks. As of May 10th, he currently leads the Florida State League in runs scored (28), tied for the lead in hits (37), second in batting average (.398), first in OBP (.529) and OPS (1.131).
During the month of April, he batted safely in 14 of the 20 games, with 5 multi-hit games in the process. Currently in May, he has a five-game hitting streak, has hit safely in 7 of his last 8 games, while batting .576 (15 for 26), with 12 runs scored, four doubles, seven RBIs, and nine walks.

I had looked at Curialle pretty good when we drafted him and checked back now and then since. I was curious about drafting a guy who was essentially a UT in college and slid pretty bad in the draft.
He didn’t play 3B especially in college. Not more than elsewhere really. A lot of OF, including a bit of CF. All around the infield. His agent or coach or somebody did a good job getting him listed as a shortstop for the draft. He has to be a good athlete with good baseball instincts. I would consider 3B a placeholder position at this point, so I do not think being locked to a position would impede his advancement level to level. You can’t really block that kind of guy.
He is almost 22 and comes from a major college baseball program, so we do need to keep that in mind here at low A. But he’s burying the needle to be sure. Like 14 says, lets follow along.
May 13, 2023 at 11:39 am #220219Curialle has certainly gone from being uninteresting to at least modestly interesting. He has really played well over the past month. And you’re right Bling, he’s a super utility player kind of like Edman or Donovan where he can play anywhere. He’s playing 3rd mostly because Moore is the shortstop at PB. But he’s over 22 so he’s starting to be a bit old for the level.
But who I’m really excited about is the guy I kept trying to get people to vote for in our top 50 list: Hancel Rincon. He just turned 21, came out of the Dominican league, and he really keeps getting better and better. He threw 6 innings yesterday without an earned run and 9 innings (yes, a full 9) in his last start without an earned run. He is not old for the league, has an ERA under 3, and doesn’t walk many (.83 WHIP this year). He doesn’t strike out that many so that’s why no one is paying attention. Fastball at 88/89. But he keeps getting better every game. I’ve watched him since the Dominican and really grew to like him there. Pay attention. He’s going to make the top 50 at some point.
May 14, 2023 at 5:16 am #220335As to Rincon, between the new MiLB configuration and the lost covid season, it is impossible for me to know what to think about the internationals coming up via the DOSL. We will get an idea about how his stuff will play vs better hitters when he moves up to Peoria, and how he takes to the less curated life away from the complex. I’m not sure of his age when we signed him, 17 maybe. How many more years of team control?
May 14, 2023 at 5:43 am #220337One of my personal favorites, Leonardo Taveras pitched 2 2/3 innings with 7 strikeouts. He has very good stuff, but has major control issues. I hope he can figure things out soon.
Edwin Nunez has looked great so far. I could see him getting to Peoria this season because he is a reliever.
Rincon has had a good start at Palm Beach.
May 14, 2023 at 8:04 am #220343The #STLCards system went 2-2 on Saturday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, left-hander Brycen Mautz, hurled six scoreless innings in Palm Beach’s win. Other standouts include Luken Baker, Connor Thomas, Chandler Redmond & Leonardo Taveras. (free) https://t.co/dR5nHeVLOv pic.twitter.com/42DvipYk4w
